However, less attention has been paid to autopolyploidy than to allopolyploidy, and its evolutionary consequences are largely unclear, especially for plants with high ploidy levels. In this study, we developed oligonucleotide(oligo)-based chromosome painting probes to identify individual chromosomes in S. spontaneum. Using fluorescence in situ hybridization(FISH), we investigated chromosome behavior during pachytene, metaphase, anaphase, and telophase of meiosis I(MI) in autotetraploid, autooctoploid, and autodecaploid S. spontaneum clones. All autopolyploid clones showed stable diploidized chromosome behavior;so that homologous chromosomes formed almost exclusively bivalents during MI. Two copies of homologous chromosome 8 with similar sizes in the autotetraploid clone showed preferential pairing with each other with respect to the other copies. However, sequence variation analysis showed no apparent differences among homologs of chromosome 8 and all other chromosomes. We suggest that either the stable diploidized pairing or the preferential pairing between homologous copies of chromosome 8 in the studied autopolyploid sugarcane are accounted for by unknown mechanisms other than DNA sequence similarity. Our results reveal evolutionary consequences of stable meiotic behavior in autopolyploid plants.展开更多

The highest triploid rate obtained was 84.5% in nauplius stage. The effect of heat shock treatment on meiosis and cleavage of eggs was investigated in this work aimed to establish efficient procedures for triploid induction and to gain understanding of the mechanism of triploid production. Three pronuclei that could be observed in the treated eggs under fluorescence microscope developed into triploid embryos. Some abnormal chromosome behavior was observed in heat shocked eggs.展开更多

The 22 couples of chromosomes (excluding sex chromosomes) in each cell were analyzed. The differences of chromosome length between the two phases were demonstrated and the correlation dimension of each chromosome was calculated. It was suggested that the mitosis of human chromosome possessed the feature of chaotic decrease. This offers a new approach to the research of the dynamic process of the mitosis.展开更多

The variant plant had rolled leaves, dispersed plant type, as well as a low seed-setting rate. Cytological and molecular cytological investigations revealed two extra chromosomes, which were the shortest in somatic cells of the variant. Fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH) analysis using a rice centromere specific DNA (RCS2) and a DNA sequence specific for chromosome 9 on premetaphase and pachytene chromosomes showed that these two chromosomes were the short arms of chromosome 9. That is to say, the variant was a telotetrasomic of chromosome 9. Among the 25 pachytene cells, the two telosomic chromosomes paired each other to form a bivalent and didn't pair with other normal chromosome 9 as multivalents in 96% cells. However, the bivalent was easy to disassociate in advance.展开更多

It’s a strategy based on natural variations in genes and gene products, which facilitates translation from animal models to human clinical conditions. Our team has shown that the inbred rat strains Lewis (LEW) and Spontaneously Hypertensive Rats (SHR) differ with respect to several emotionality- related behaviors, one of which (inner locomotion in the open field) was strongly influenced by a QTL (Anxrr16) on rat chromosome 4. Since then, several other studies not only corroborated the initial description of Anxrr16, but also extrapolated its effects to a broader context (rats from both sexes and regardless of the estrous cycle phase) and suggested that this same region influences other emotionality-related behaviors as well as alcohol intake. Other QTLs affecting neurobiological traits were also found on rat chromosome 4 and several candidate genes have been pointed out as possibly influencing those phenotypes. Altogether, these studies suggest that rat chromosome 4 constitutes an interesting target for the study of the molecular bases of anxiety and other traits related to emotional reactivity.展开更多
