In order to promote the application and development of civil aviation safety(CAS)in the field of safety and enrich the theoretical system of CAS research,the methodology of CAS was studied.The definition of CAS was re...In order to promote the application and development of civil aviation safety(CAS)in the field of safety and enrich the theoretical system of CAS research,the methodology of CAS was studied.The definition of CAS was reconstructed,its connotation was explained from four aspects,and its research object was clarified.This paper discussed the mechanism of CAS,that is,to maintain system security through the establishment of safety prevention and control system(SPCS),and explained the research content of CAS from theory and technology application.Five principles and applicable methods for CAS research were summarized.In addition,it put forward the general procedure of CAS research,explained the specific content and implementation method or basis of each step.The research results show that the methodology of CAS is a systematic theoretical system with certain guiding significance,combined with the mechanism,research content,research principles and methods,and research procedures of CAS.展开更多

Although a natural hazard is usually local, its impact, through the network topology, can become global...As an important infrastructure system, civil aviation network system can be severely affected by natural hazards. Although a natural hazard is usually local, its impact, through the network topology, can become global.Inspired by Wilkinson's work in 2012, this article proposes a new quantitative spatial vulnerability model for network systems, which emphasizes the spreading impact of spatially localized hazards on these systems. This model considers hazard location and area covered by a hazard,and spatially spreading impact of the hazard(including direct impact and indirect impact through network topology) and proposes an absolute spatial vulnerability index and a relative spatial vulnerability index to reflect the vulnerability of a network system to local hazards. The model is then applied to study the spatial vulnerability of the Chinese civil aviation network system. The simulation results show that(1) the proposed model is effective and useful to study spatial vulnerability of civil aviation network systems as the results well explain the general situation of the Chinese civil aviation system; and(2) the Chinese civil aviation network system is highly vulnerable to local hazards when indirect impacts through network connections are considered.展开更多
International tourism is highly dependent on air travel,which enhances destination countries’economic growth and living standards while causing environmental degradation.This study investigates the effect of air trav...International tourism is highly dependent on air travel,which enhances destination countries’economic growth and living standards while causing environmental degradation.This study investigates the effect of air travel on environmental degradation in BRICS nations.The study used feasible generalized least squares(FGLS)to evaluate the environmental Kuznets curve using data spanning 1995 to 2018.The study finds evidence of N-shaped EKC in the economies of the BRICS nations.We also find a positive relationship between tourism,urbanization,and environmental degradation(as measured by CO_(2) and SO_(2) emissions from civil aviation)and a negative relationship between economic development and environmental degradation.To achieve sustainable growth and environmental protection and promote green technology,the BRICS governments should devise policies that address the aviation industry’s short-and long-term needs.展开更多

Auxiliary Power Unit(APU) is one of important components in aircraft, which provides electrical power and compressed air for aircraft. The hazards in APU are prone to cause economic losses and even casualties. So,actively identifying the hazards in APU before an accident occurs is necessary. In this paper, a Hybrid Deep Neural Network(HDNN) based on multi-time window convolutional neural network-Bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory(CNN-Bi LSTM) neural network is proposed for active hazard identification of APU in civil aircraft. In order to identify the risks caused by different types of failures, the proposed HDNN simultaneously integrates three CNN-Bi LSTM basic models with different time window sizes in parallel by using a fully connected neural network. The CNN-Bi LSTM basic model can automatically extract features representing the system state from the input data and learn the time information of irregular trends in the time series data. Nine benchmark models are compared with the proposed HDNN. The comparison results show that the proposed HDNN has the highest identification accuracy. The HDNN has the most stable identification performance for data with imbalanced samples.展开更多
A 2%scale,cruising version of a 450-seat class Blended-Wing-Body(BWB)transport was tested in the China Aerodynamic Research and Development Center’s FL-262.4-by-2.4-meter subsonic wind tunnel.The focus of the wind tu...A 2%scale,cruising version of a 450-seat class Blended-Wing-Body(BWB)transport was tested in the China Aerodynamic Research and Development Center’s FL-262.4-by-2.4-meter subsonic wind tunnel.The focus of the wind tunnel test was to investigate the aerodynamic performance of the latest BWB transport design,which would also aid in choosing a final engine arrangement in the three most potential engine integration layouts.The wind tunnel model can be tested with and without the nacelle and has three sets of different nacelle/tail integration positions.Computational Fluid Dynamics(CFD)simulations were performed in engine-aircraft integration design to find appropriate nacelle installing parameters of each layout.The comparison of CFD with experimental results shows good agreement.Wind tunnel measurements indicate that the tail-mounted engine layout produces the minimum drag penalty,while the fuselage-mounted engine layout increases drag the most.Experimental pressure measurement illustrates the effect of nacelle integration on the wing-body surface pressure distribution.This experimental and numerical research provides a reference for future BWB Propulsion-Airframe Integration(PAI)design.展开更多

Automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast (ADS-B) is a totally new surveillance method, so before practically applied and operated in China, abundant tests and evaluations are necessary to validate the performance of ADS-B and guarantee the operational security. During the flight tests, we collect the data of radar, ADS-B and high accuracy position and compare the performance of ADS-B with radar based on high accuracy position. To solve the asynchronous problem among radar data, ADS-B data and real-time kinematic (RTK) data caused by different update rates, this artic.le proposes the technique of synchronizing multi-surveil- lance data by extrapolating from the data of low update rate to high update rate according to velocity and heading. Meanwhile, because radar data, ADS-B data and RTK data are expressed in different coordinates and cannot be compared each other, this article provides a method to unifying the coordinates of multi-surveillance data. By the analysis and evaluation, we can conclude that the performance of ADS-B is better than radar.展开更多

We report her...The rapid development of high-speed rail (HSR) and air transport in China has encouraged research on the spatial effects and safety of these two modes of transport, and on the competition between them. We report here an investigation of the effects of competi- tion between HSR and air transport in China from a geographical perspective. The spatial service hinterlands for HSR and air transport accessible within one and two hours by road transport were investigated using a method based on a geographical information system and the overlapping service hinterlands of HSR and air transport were established. A city with both HSR stations and airports, or that was accessible to HSR stations and airports within a certain travel time by road transport, was defined as the overlapping market. The spatial effects of competition between HSR and air transport at present and in the future were then studied with respect to the planned HSR network and airports. The results showed that both HSR and air transport tend to serve areas with high population densities and well-developed econo- mies and in 2012 most of the population and GDP in China were accessible within two hours by road transport to an HSR station or airport. -the different technical and economic charac- teristics of HSR and air transport determine the advantage markets. Spatially, the service hinterland of HSR mainly focuses on urban agglomerations and economic corridors in the eastern and central regions, whereas air transport has a competitive advantage in the more inaccessible western region of China. The overlapping market of HSR and air transport will become increasingly large in the future and cities with a population of over one million and cities within 30 km to both airports and HSR stations will become the major competitive markets. Considering the cost of construction and the number of passengers required for economic operation, as well as the competition with air transport, it is suggested that the construction of some HSR projects in the western region of China should be canceled or slowed down.展开更多
