In the area of computer-assisted language learning(CALL),although a number of studies have adopted various CALL-based devices(e.g.,blogs,gaming,and synthetic environments)to foster second language(L2)acquisition,the v...In the area of computer-assisted language learning(CALL),although a number of studies have adopted various CALL-based devices(e.g.,blogs,gaming,and synthetic environments)to foster second language(L2)acquisition,the vital component of instruction has received little attention.The present study explored the usefulness of CALL-based communication in conjunction with instruction on EFL learners’L2 pragmatic development.Sixty-two EFL students from a university in China were recruited for the current research.The experimental group communicated with a native English speaker through synchronous messaging via Skype and had two instructional sessions pertinent to compliment responses,while the control group interacted with a native English speaker via Skype without having the teaching intervention.Findings from an independent samples t-test demonstrated that the experimental group produced significantly more proper compliment responses in the immediate posttest than the control group(p<.001).Moreover,a significant difference(p<.001)was found for the experimental group between the preintervention and delayed post-intervention mean scores,suggesting that CALL coupled with teaching intervention had a long-term impact on learners’L2 pragmatic development.These findings enrich our understanding of the beneficial and lasting influence of combining CALL with instruction on EFL students’pragmatic development.In addition,pedagogical implications for deploying CALL paired with L2 pragmatics instruction are provided.展开更多

However, how to integrate CALL into the teaching of culture is still rarely discussed. The purpose of the paper is to explore feasible models for teaching culture in CALL and their effects on students' acquisition process. Based on two fundamental pedagogical approaches (participatory pedagogy and multiliteracies pedagogy) for teaching culture, this paper proposes three pedagogical models (problem-posing model, web-quest model, and computer-supported collaborative learning model) for teaching culture in CALL. In the end, this paper illustrates a combination of the three models in real CALL setting by a cultural teaching case. A questionnaire survey and interviews are conducted to reflect on students' feedback, which gives an insight into possible adjustments in teaching models and the paper also proposes future possibilities in applying these models into teaching culture展开更多

With the advancements in internet facilities,people are more inclined towards the use of online services.The service providers shelve their items for e-users.These users post their feedbacks,reviews,ratings,etc.after ...With the advancements in internet facilities,people are more inclined towards the use of online services.The service providers shelve their items for e-users.These users post their feedbacks,reviews,ratings,etc.after the use of the item.The enormous increase in these reviews has raised the need for an automated system to analyze these reviews to rate these items.Sentiment Analysis(SA)is a technique that performs such decision analysis.This research targets the ranking and rating through sentiment analysis of these reviews,on different aspects.As a case study,Songs are opted to design and test the decision model.Different aspects of songs namely music,lyrics,song,voice and video are picked.For the reason,reviews of 20 songs are scraped from YouTube,pre-processed and formed a dataset.Different machine learning algorithms—Naïve Bayes(NB),Gradient Boost Tree,Logistic Regression LR,K-Nearest Neighbors(KNN)and Artificial Neural Network(ANN)are applied.ANN performed the best with 74.99%accuracy.Results are validated using K-Fold.展开更多

A tentative model of whole language teaching comes into view, and an eighteen-month experimental project is designed and implemented in Hebei University, China. The exponential growth of bioinformatics tools in recent years has posed challenges for scientists in selecting the most suitable one for their data analysis assignments.Therefore,to aid scientists in making informed ...The exponential growth of bioinformatics tools in recent years has posed challenges for scientists in selecting the most suitable one for their data analysis assignments.Therefore,to aid scientists in making informed choices,a community-based platform that indexes and rates bioinformatics tools is urgently needed.In this study,we introduce Bio Treasury(http://biotreasury.rjmart.cn),an integrated communitybased repository that provides an interactive platform for users and developers to share their experiences in various bioinformatics tools.Bio Treasury offers a comprehensive collection of well-indexed bioinformatics software,tools,and databases,totaling over 10,000 entries.In the past two years,we have continuously improved and maintained Bio Treasury,adding several exciting features,including creating structured homepages for every tool and user,a hierarchical category of bioinformatics tools and classifying tools using large language model(LLM).Bio Treasury streamlines the tool submission process with intelligent auto-completion.Additionally,Bio Treasury provides a wide range of social features,for example,enabling users to participate in interactive discussions,rate tools,build and share tool collections for the public.We believe Bio Treasury can be a valuable resource and knowledge-sharing platform for the biomedical community.It empowers researchers to effectively discover and evaluate bioinformatics tools,fostering collaboration and advancing bioinformatics research.展开更多
