Based on the relief of interfacial energy density by dislocation generation at the gamma - gamma ' interfaces, a rafting prediction criterion has been developed for nickel-base single crystals under multiaxial stresses. The diagrams of rafting have been presented, and confirmed by experimental results. The rafting process have been analyzed quantitatively by the relief of interfacial energy. The criterion has been applied to study the creep behavior. The example of creep life analysis shows that the criterion can be correlated greatly to the crystallographic orientation dependence of creep behavior. (Author abstract) 11 Refs. 展开更多

With transmission electron microscope, it has been observed and analyzed that the dislocation arrangements and the fatigue damage of eutectoid present in welded metals which are loaded at different fatigue loads and load cycles. The results indicated that the character of fatigue damage in ferrites of welded metals is the dislocation arrangement change and eutectoids of welded metals are the broken cementites. The effects of the pre-deformation on the microstructure, mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of Al–Cu–Mg–Ag alloys were investigated by means of hardness tests, tensile tests, intergranullar corrosion (... The effects of the pre-deformation on the microstructure, mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of Al–Cu–Mg–Ag alloys were investigated by means of hardness tests, tensile tests, intergranullar corrosion (IGC) tests and transmission electron microscopy (TEM), respectively. The results show that with the increase of deformation amount, the aging hardening rate increases while the strength of the alloy decreases and then increases. The sample with a pre-deformation of 6% possesses the highest tensile strength due to the refinedly and homogeneously distributed precipitations. The pre-deformation aging accelerates the heterogeneous nucleation of Ω and θ′ phases at dislocations, and also refines the precipitations both in the grains and along the grain boundaries. The precipitation of Ω phase is restrained while that of θ′ phase is accelerated in pre-deformed Al–Cu–Mg–Ag alloy compared with the sample without pre-deformation. In addition, the width of the precipitate free zone decreases with increasing the pre-deformation amount, leading to a narrower IGC passageway. This results in an enhanced IGC resistance of Al–Cu–Mg–Ag alloy treated by pre-deformation aging. © 2017, Central South University Press and Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany. 展开更多

The γ/γ' microstructural evolution in a nickel based single crystal superalloy during load-free thermal exposure at 900 ℃ has been further investigated in this paper. The growth characteristics of γ' precipitates were discussed in detail. The generation of interfacial dislocations would accelerate the rate of coalescence in the dendrite arms. The average sizes of precipitates were used to compare interface with diffusion controlled growth mechanism and no mechanism seems obviously dominant, although the square rate law gives slightly better fit. The coarsening behavior may be controlled by diffusion through the ragged interface between the γ' precipitate and the y matrix. 展开更多

We study nanometer copper thin films prepared by magnetron sputtering and treated with laser shock processing (LSP). We observe the formation of firstborn twin crystals and some complete twin crystals in the copper thin films. After LSP, scanning electron microscope (SEM) images show obvious plastic deformation of the copper grain on the film surface, dramatically increased grain size, and the appearance of a large number of twin crystals. Moreover, the width of the crystals is a few dozen nanometers, and the cross angle is more than or close to 90°. Many vacancy defects appear during the sliding of atomic plane, which leads to a faulty structure; however, no obvious dislocation is observed. These substructures play a significant role in improving the mechanical performance of nanometer copper thin films. 展开更多
