Interpretation of Visual Culture in Architectural Design

Before the invention of characters, human beings used images to convey information and express ideas, and such a mode of transmission has still been maintained and even presented in more diversified forms with the passage of time. Architecture is a significant branch of visual art, it meets functional needs of daily use, and also reflects social culture and its development tendency. This paper analyzed the relationship between architectural design and visual form, explored the expression means of architectural cultures, so as to grasp the development context of history precisely, enrich architectural design and make it a motive of social cultural development.

The ＂Pictorial Turn＂ as Crisis and the Necessity of a Critique of Visual Culture

The ＂Pictorial＂ or ＂Iconic Turn＂ is a central issue in the contemporary theory of images and visual cultural studies. Should the theories concerning the ＂Iconic Turn＂ and formulated in the last 20 years by scholars such as Gottfried Boehm, William Mitchell, Hans Belting be taken as critical theories of crisis？ Is the currently experienced ＂turn towards images＂ （and their progressive rehabilitation after a long standing philosophical and theological rejection） a sign and symptom of some crisis of people＇s relation with images, language and, generally speaking, with the representation forms of reality？ The main hypothesis of this essay envisages two sets of problems： first, the analysis of the relation between the possible idea of turning point and the concept of crisis; secondly, the thorough investigation of the relation connecting the iconic turn to the project of ＂critical iconology＂ or ＂critique of visual culture,＂ as outlined by Hans Belting and William Mitchell. From the interpretation of the ＂Iconic Turn＂ as situation of crisis and aesthetic, anthropological, and epistemological transformation follows the need for the sciences of image to provide a ＂critical iconology＂ in order to be able to theoretically reformulate the ideological and political presuppositions of some dominant contemporary forms of visual representation.

With emerging technological tools, they blend intuitive, pragmatic, emotional, and contextual imagination with a highly-sophisticated production pipeline in order to incorporate the challenges of synthesizing ＂dialect＂ and ＂codes＂ that have traditionally been segregated in the culture. Their work is an amalgamation of arts/design, animation, life footage, and meaningful communication. With cyclical evaluation, they entwine the two elements, creativity, and technicality with massive exposure of Digital Assists Management （DAM）. This paper explains how current technological tools and contextualized teaching instructions foster meaningful content with the elicitation and mergence of Arab anthropological characteristics.

Analysis of Mass Communication of Short Video Clips in Era of Convergence Media

In the era of convergence media,short video clips,as a new form of mass communication,provide a new driving force for the upgrading and transformation of traditional media.Short videos are a product of the rapid development of visual culture in the Internet Plus era,which focuses on image communication and perceptual experience.In the all-media environment,the audience’s perception ability has been extended as the news scene offers an intense sense of immersion.Short-form videos provide viewers with fresh narrative modes and new perspectives.In particular,H5,VR/AR,and other technologies have changed the short video pattern with a new expression of audio-visual language,thus greatly increasing the communication power and attraction.The growing popularity of short videos,known as the New King of All Media,results from the combination of technology and culture,such as big data,5G,VR/AR,AI,block chain,and hologram.How to keep the competitiveness of short videos with an upsurge in content consumption in the era of 5G is a question we should ponder.

Exploring Shanghai through Metro

In the era of globalization, metro system has now turned into a multi-functional public place. To date, it not only serves its traditional function as transportation means, but in addition transforms into a media-rich commercialized place filled with ads in various media forms. It is especially true when it is applied to modern urban cities like Shanghai. Shanghai, as one of the fastest developing cities in China, constantly demonstrates features of international, Chinese and Shanghainese city through various forms of visual environment in the city infrastructures. This study aims at exploring Shanghai through its metro system. In other word, it tends to examine the identity of Shanghai through careful analysis of its visual environment within the metro stations so as to see whether it can reflect the generalized three features as international, Chinese and Shanghainese.

Literary reading in the context of media culture

Literary reading reached its peak in China in the 1980s. From the 1990s on, however, it underwent a slow decline which has gained speed in the new century. The new media have played an important role in the process of its decline. Their influence is mainly seen in the reshaping of the receiver＇s perceptual structure because of the change from text to image and in the lack of stimulus to reflection and thought because of the change from page to screen. At the same time, the new media have broken down the ＂solitary＂ state of reading and lessened the depth of the reception model. From the perspective of media culture, the decline of literary reading is a result of the serious damage inflicted upon print culture by visual culture. The new generation is already living in an environment of visual culture; they will inevitably drift away from literary reading. This will have an impact on both production and research in literature. The private memory, perceptual structure and even bodily habits of those who preserve literary reading and resist the new media are precisely those established by print culture. Therefore, behind the clash between preserving and forsaking literary reading lies a clash between different media cultures.
