Under the external AC and DC electric field Ea (1 +sin ωt), the local potentials of composites at all harmonic frequencies are induced. Electrical stimulation has recently received attention as noninvasive treatment in skin wound healing with its outstanding biological property for clinical setting.However,the complexity of equipment for applying appropriate electrical stimulation remains an ongoing challenge.Here,we proposed a strategy for skin scar inhibition by providing electrical stimulation via a multilayer stacked electret(MS-electret),which can generate direct current(DC)electric field(EF)without any power supply equipment.In addition,the MS-electret can easily control the intensity of EFs by simply stacking electret layers and maintain stable EF with the surface potential of 3400 V over 5 days owing to the injected charges on the electret surface.We confirmed inhibition of type 1 collagen andα-SMA expression of human dermal fibroblasts(hDFs)by 90%and 44%in vitro,indicating that the transition of hDFs to myofibroblasts was restricted by applying stable electrical stimulation.We further revealed a 20%significant decrease in the ratio of myofibroblasts caused by the MS-electret in vivo.These findings present that the MS-electret is an outstanding candidate for effective skin scar inhibition with a battery-free,physiological electrical microenvironment,and noninvasive treatment that allows it to prevent external infection. 展开更多

The crystal growth of a nickel-based single crystal superalloy DD3 was researched via controlled directional solidification under the action of a DC electric field. The cellular or dendrite spacing of the single crystal superalloy is refined and microsegregation of alloying elements Al, Ti, Mo and W, is reduced by the electric field. The electric field decreases the interface stability and reduces the critical growth rate of the ceUular-dendritic translation because of Thomson effect and Joule heating. The precipitation of the γ' phase is more uniform and the size of the γ' phase is smaller with the electric field than that without the electric field. 展开更多

A theoretical model was proposed to describe the effects of external bias electric field on terahertz(THz)generated in air plasma.The model predicted that for a plasma in a bias electric field,the amplification effect of the THz wave intensity increases with the increase of the excitation laser wavelength.We experimentally observed the relationship between the THz enhancement effect and the electric field strength at different wavelengths.Experimental results showed a good agreement with the model predictions.These results enhance our understanding of the physical mechanism by which femtosecond lasers excite air to generate THz and extend the practical applications of THz generation and modulation. 展开更多

Alginate beads, often used for controlled release of enzymes and drugs, are usually produced by spraying sodium alginate liquid into a gelling agent using mechanical vibration nozzle or air jet. In this work an alternative method of electro-spray was employed to form droplets with desired size from a highly viscous sodium alginate solution using constant DC voltage. The droplets were then cured in a calcium chloride solution. The main objective was to produce mono-sized beads from such a highly viscous and non-Newtonian liquid (1000–5000 mPa s). The effects of nozzle diameter, flow rate and concentration of liquid on the size of the beads were investigated. Among the parameters studied, voltage had a pronounced effect on the size of beads as compared to flow rate, nozzle diameter and concentration of alginate liquid. The size of beads was reduced to a minimum value with increasing the voltage in the range of 0–10 kV. At the early stages of voltage increase (i.e. up to about 4 kV), the rate of size reduction was relatively low, while the dripping mode dominated. However, in the middle part of the range of applied voltage, where the rate of size reduction was high (i.e. about 4–7 kV), an unstable transition occurred between dripping and jetting. At the end part of the range (i.e. 7–10 kV) jet mode of spray was observed. Increasing the height of fall of the droplets was found to improve the sphericity of the beads, because of the increased time of flight for the droplets. This was especially identifiable at higher concentrations of the alginate liquid (i.e. 3 w/v%). 展开更多

The effects of different electrode on Solanum nigrum L.seed germination were determined.The result showed that germination percentage(GP)of seeds in treatment T2(titanium elec-trode)was 26.6%higher than in control(CK,without electric field).High potassium and calcium concentrations were beneficial for seed enzymatic activity in treatment T2,which could partly explain the increase in GP.Cd accumulation(μg/pot)in S.nigrum treated with any electric field was significantly higher(p<0.05)than in CK without electric field.Specif-ically,Cd accumulation under the treatment T3(stainless steel electrode)was the highest both in roots and shoots;this accumulation in shoots and roots were 74.7%and 67.4%higher for stainless steel than in CK.This increase must have been associated with a higher Cd concentration in plants and did not exert a significant effect on the biomass.In par-ticular,Cd concentrations in roots and shoots under stainless steel treatment were both significantly higher than in CK(p<0.05),which had to be related to the higher available Cd concentration in the soil in the middle region.Furthermore,it could be attributed to al-tered soil pH and other soil properties.Moreover,none of the biomasses were significantly affected(p<0.05)by different electrode materials compared to CK. 展开更多
