This study aims to examine the prevalence of job burnout and its probable causes among College English teachers. Data were collected among a random sampling of 270 College English Teachers who filled out the Chinese Maslach Burnout Inventory ( CMBI) and a socio-demographic inventory. The findings indicate that College English Teachers register a low-to-average degree of job burnout with the detection rate of 75. 4% . Group differences on the three dimensions are determined by different factors. Reduced personal accomplishment shows significant difference on gender and marital status. Emotional exhaustion shows significant difference on highest degree and number of years on the job. Differences on all three dimensions are observed concerning academic title and school type,though not significant.

Concept analysis of nurse burnout

Objective:To explore the concept of burnout among nurses.Through this concept analysis would expect in assisting hospital management departments in establishing supportive programmes to manage burnout of nurses.Method:Walker and Avant’s framework is adopted for the concept analysis of burnout.Results:Burnout is a syndrome that can happen among helping professions which characterized as emotional exhaustion,depersonalization,and reduced personal accomplishment.The antecedents of burnout are cognitive-competence,role overload,role conflict,lack of social support,and rewards.On the other hand,the consequences of burnout could be both personal and organizational,such as sub-clinical issues,behavioral change,absenteeism,and poor quality of care.Conclusion:The analysis of burnout on its attributes,together with antecedents and consequences(Appendix A)and presenting with case study,it may help the nurse to gain a better understanding of nurse burnout and build coping strategies.

Prevalence and Factors Associated with Burnout Syndrome among Resident Doctors at Tertiary Teaching Hospitals in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania

Introduction: Burnout syndrome is prevalent to a great extent among medical residents, and this can interfere with their training and patient management. However, the extent of the problem is still unknown in our setting. This study therefore aimed at determining prevalence and factors associated with burnout syndrome among resident doctors at tertiary teaching hospitals in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Method: A cross-sectional study of resident doctors was carried out in four teaching hospitals of Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences between January 2021 and March 2021. Participants were interviewed using a structured questionnaire and Maslach Burnout Inventory. Results: The study had 398 participants with a mean age of 35 ± 3.5 years. Overall burnout prevalence was 33.7%, as for the burnout dimensions, 205 (51.5%) respondents reported burnout in the dimension of emotional exhaustion (EE), 177 (44.5%) in the dimension of depersonalization (D), and 144 (36.2%) in the dimension of reduced personal accomplishment (RPA). Independent factors associated with burnout syndrome were: inadequate support from residency program supervisors (Odds Ratio (OR) 1.97, 95% CI: 1.23 - 3.14, p = 0.005), work-related family conflicts (Odds Ratio (OR) 3.2, 95% CI: 1.35 - 7.71, p = 0.008), stressful call perception (Odds Ratio (OR) 3.31, 95% CI: 1.90 - 5.76, p = 0.001) and each added year of study (Odds Ratio (OR) 3.46, 95% CI: 1.08 - 6.73, p = 0.009). Conclusion: Burnout is a problem among resident doctors in Tanzania. This could be addressed by directing preventive and intervention measures in the residency training program. Periodic assessment is also needed to mitigate factors associated with burnout among resident doctors.

Oral but not written test anxiety is related to social anxiety

AIM To examine the associations of test anxiety(TA) in written vs oral exam situations with social anxiety(SA).METHODS A convenience sample of 204 students was recruited at the Technische Universit?t Dresden(TU Dresden,Germany) and contacted via e-mail asking to complete a cross-sectional online survey based on established questionnaires.The study protocol was approved by the ethics committee of the TU Dresden.Full data of n = 96 students were available for dependent t-tests and correlation analyses on the associations of SA and TA respectively with trigger events,cognitions,safety behaviors,physical symptoms and depersonalization.Analyses were run using SPSS.RESULTS Levels of TA were higher for fear in oral exams than for fear in written exams(M = 48.1,SD = 11.5 vs M = 43.7,SD = 10.1 P < 0.001).Oral TA and SA were positively correlated(Spearman's r = 0.343,P < 0.001;Pearson's r = 0.38,P < 0.001) contrasting written TA and SA(Spearman's r = 0.17,P > 0.05;Pearson's r = 0.223,P > 0.05).Compared to written TA,triggerevents were more often reported for oral TA(18.2% vs 30.3%,P = 0.007);which was also accompanied more often by test-anxious cognitions(7.9% vs 8.5%,P = 0.001),safety behavior(8.9% vs 10.3%,P < 0.001) and physical symptoms(for all,P < 0.001).CONCLUSION Written,but not oral TA emerged being unrelated to SA and may rather not be considered as a typical facet of SA disorder.

Evaluation of the Burnout of Caregivers of Institut de Cancérologie d’Akanda

Aim:Oncologists are particularly prone to developing burnout syndrome due to the demanding task of caring for cancer patients.Undiagnosed and incorrectly managed,burnout can have a negative impact on professional performance.The objective of the study is to measure the frequency of burnout among nursing staff at the Institut de Cancérologie d’Akanda(ICA)and to assess the main risk factors.Procedure:We conducted a cross-sectional study at the ICA during the month of January 2022.Burnout was assessed using the Maslach Burnout Inventory(MBI).Results:Between the 42 participants,there was a female predominance(57.1%)with a male to female sex ratio of 0.75.The mean age was 39.57±8.13 years.Nurses represented more than half of the sample(52.5%).The average years of service at the ICA was 6.30±4.80 years.Severe emotional exhaustion was found in 35.7%of subjects.As for severe depersonalization and severe loss of achievement,they were found in 14.3%and 31.0%of participants,respectively.Severe burnout was found in 14.3%of subjects.There was a significant association between emotional exhaustion,acts of violence and family support(p=0.031;p=0.042).Subjects who are victims of acts of violence are 5 times more likely to develop severe emotional exhaustion than subjects who are not victims.Subjects with family support had an 82.6%reduced risk of developing severe emotional exhaustion.There was no statistically significant association between the socio-demographic or professional variables of the sample and depersonalization as well as the loss of professional accomplishment.Conclusion:Burnout is relatively common at the ICA.It is important to be able to identify it in order to prevent the harmful effects it can have on the physical and mental health of staff,which may be responsible for a negative impact on the functioning of the service and the care of patients.A plea must be made against the director in order to set up awareness campaigns for the identification of the disorder and to offer psychological follow-up.

Job Burnout of English Teachers in Secondary Schools in Western China

Through the analysis of 86 valid questionnaires and twice follow-up interviews connected with twice MBI-ESs for the three chosen participants, this study shows that： 1） The job burnout syndrome of English teachers in secondary schools is not very serious; 2） There＇s no significant difference between male and female teachers, between teachers in junior and senior middle schools or between teachers in key and average schools, but teachers with more teaching experience can often find a sense of personal achievement; 3） The causes of English teachers＇ job burnout in secondary schools lie in external factors, such as unreasonable school policy, student-management pressure, exam pressure, etc. and internal factors, such as knowledge exhaustion, lacking self-adjustment, etc.
