Improvement of circuit oscillation generated by underwater high voltage pulse discharges based on pulse power thyristor

High voltage fracturing technology was widely used in the field of reservoir reconstruction due to its advantages of being clean, pollution-free, and high-efficiency. However, high-frequency circuit oscillation occurs during the underwater high voltage pulse discharge process, which brings security risks to the stability of the pulse fracturing system. In order to solve this problem, an underwater pulse power discharge system was established, the circuit oscillation generation conditions were analyzed and the circuit oscillation suppression method was proposed. Firstly, the system structure was introduced and the charging model of the energy storage capacitor was established by the state space average method. Next, the electrode high-voltage breakdown model was established through COMSOL software, the electrode breakdown process was analyzed according to the electron density distribution image, and the plasma channel impedance was estimated based on the conductivity simulation results. Then the underwater pulse power discharge process and the circuit oscillation generation condition were analyzed, and the circuit oscillation suppression strategy of using the thyristor to replace the gas spark switch was proposed. Finally, laboratory experiments were carried out to verify the precision of the theoretical model and the suppression effect of circuit oscillation. The experimental results show that the voltage variation of the energy storage capacitor, the impedance change of the pulse power discharge process, and the equivalent circuit in each discharge stage were consistent with the theoretical model. The proposed oscillation suppression strategy cannot only prevent the damage caused by circuit oscillation but also reduce the damping oscillation time by77.1%, which can greatly improve the stability of the system. As a sulfur-containing cathode material,sulfide polyacrylonitrile(SPAN)is expected to be used for longlife lithium-sulfur battery because there is no shuttle effect occurred in its charge process.However,its specific capacity and discharge potential need to be further improved to satisfy the urgent demands for high-performance batteries.In this paper,Te0.045S0.955PAN composite was synthesized by co-heating TexS1-x and PAN,and the superior electrochemical performance to that of SPAN was obtained because of doping Te with high conductivity.The as-prepared Te0.045S0.955PAN composite possessed the specific capacity of 675 mAh g^-1 after 100 cycles at the current density of 0.1 A g^-1 with high capacity retention of96.6%compared to the second cycle.Especially,during cycling,Te0.045S0.955PAN showed average discharge voltages of 1.88-1.91 V,which were higher than 1.85-1.88 V for SPAN at the same current density.Thus doping Te provides a new strategy for increasing the energy density of SPAN. 展开更多

A high-speed charge-coupled device camera was used to capture images of the plume and acceleration channel of a Hall effect thruster during ignition at different discharge voltages.To better understand the influence of changes in the discharge voltage on the plasma parameters during thruster ignition,a particle-in-cell numerical model was used to calculate the distribution characteristics of the ion density and electric potential at different ignition moments under different discharge voltages.The results show that when the discharge voltage is high,the ion densities in the plume and acceleration channel are significantly higher at the initial phase of thruster ignition;with the gradual strengthening of the ignition process,the propellant avalanche ionization during thruster ignition occurs earlier and the pulse current peak increases.The main reason for these phenomena is that the change in the discharge voltage results in different energy acquisitions of the emitted electrons entering the thruster channel. 展开更多

A sub-nanosecond pulse discharge tube is a gas discharge tube which can generate a rapid high-voltage pulse of kilo-volts in amplitude and sub-nanoseconds in width. In this paper, the sub-nanosecond pulse discharge tube and its working principles are described. Because of the phenomenon that the deformation process of the mercury film on the electrode surface lags behind the charging process, the mercury film deformation process affects the dynamic breakdown voltage of the tube directly. The deformation of the mercury film is observed microscopically, and the dynamic breakdown voltage of the tube is messured using an oscillograph. The results show that all the parameters in the charging process, such as charging resistance, charging capacitance and DC power supply, affect the dynamic breakdown voltage of the tube. Based on these studies, the output pulse amplitude can be controlled continuously and individually by adjusting the power supply voltage. When the DC power supply is adjusted from 7 kV to 10 kV, the dynamic breakdown voltage ranges from 6.5 kV to 10 kV. According to our research, a kind of sub-nanosecond pulse generator is made, with a pulse width ranging from 0.5 ns to 2.5 ns, a rise time from 0.32 ns to 0.58 ns, and a pulse amplitude that is adjustable from 1.5 kV to 5 kV. 展开更多

In this paper,a two-dimensional physical model is established according to the discharging process in the Hall thruster discharge channel using the particle-in-cell method.The influences of discharge voltage on the distributions of potential,ion radial flow,and discharge current are investigated in a fixed magnetic field configuration.It is found that,with the increase of discharge voltage,especially during 250-650 V,the ion radial flow and the collision frequency between ions and the wall are decreased,but the discharge current is increased.The electron temperature saturation is observed between 400-450 V and the maximal value decreases during this region.When the discharge voltage reaches 700 V,the potential distribution in the axis direction expands to the anode significantly,the ionization region becomes close to the anode,and the acceleration region grows longer.Besides,ion radial flow and the collision frequency between ions and the wall are also increased when the discharge voltage exceeds 650 V. 展开更多

HFO-1234 ze(E)(trans-1,3,3,3-tetrafluoropropene,chemical formula:C3H2F4)is an extremely environmentally friendly SF6 alternative gas with high electrical strength.In this paper,the partial discharge(PD)characteristics of HFO-1234 ze(E)/N2 mixtures were studied using the gas insulation test platform.The PD inception voltage of insulating gas under positive and negative half cycles of power frequency was tested.Using SF6/N2 mixtures as a control group,the effects of electrode spacing,mixing ratio and pressure on the insulation performance of HFO-1234 ze(E)/N2 mixtures were explored.The test results show that the PD inception voltage of the negative half-cycle of pure HFO-1234 ze(E)under short electrode spacing can reach 0.96-1.04 times of pure SF6 under different pressures;the PD inception voltage of40%HFO-1234 ze(E)/60%N2 mixtures at 0.3 MPa is 0.67-0.89 times that of SF6/N2 mixtures under the same conditions,which has great application prospect. 展开更多

The generation and propagation of a streamer is a significant physical process of air gap discharge. Research on the mechanism of streamers under low-pressure conditions is helpful for understanding the process of long-gap discharge in a high-altitude area. This paper describes laboratory investigations of streamer discharge under alternating current(AC) voltage in a low pressure test platform for a 60 cm rod–plane gap at 30 kPa, and analyzes the characteristics of streamer generation and propagation. The results show that the partial streamer and breakdown streamer all occur in the positive half-cycle of AC voltage near the peak voltage at 30 kPa. The partial streamer could cause the distortion of current and voltage waveform, and it appears as the branching characteristic at the initial stage. With the extension of the streamer, the branching and tortuosity phenomena become gradually obvious, but the branching is suppressed when the streamer crosses the gap. The low-pressure condition has little influence on the tortuosity length and the tortuosity number of the streamer, but affect the diameter of streamer obviously. 展开更多

Organic pollutants could be degraded by using bubble discharge in water with gas aeration in the discharge reactor and more plasma can be generated in the discharge process. When pulsed high voltage was applied between electrodes with gas aerated into the reactor, it showed that bubbles were broken, which meant that breakdown took place. It could also be observed that the removal rate of phenol increased with increasing discharge voltage or pulse frequency, and with reducing initial phenol concentration or solution electric conductivity. It could remove more amount of phenol by oxygen aeration. With increasing oxygen flow rate, the removal rate increased. There was little difference with air or nitrogen aeration for phenol removal. The solution temperature after discharge increased to a great extent. However, this part of energy consumption did not contribute to the reaction, which led to a reduction in the energy utilization efficiency. 展开更多

Precise control of the discharge in space and time is of great significance for better applications of discharge plasma.Here,we used a femtosecond laser filament to trigger and guide a highvoltage DC pulse discharge to achieve spatiotemporal control of the discharge plasma.In space,the discharge plasma is distributed strictly along the channel generated by the femtosecond laser filament.The breakdown voltage threshold is reduced,and the discharge length is extended.In time,the electrical parameters such as the electrode voltage and the electrode gap affect discharge delay time and jitter.By optimizing the parameters,we can achieve sub-nanosecond jitter of the discharge.Based on the spatiotemporal control of the discharge,we applied filamenttriggered discharge for one-dimensional composition measurements of the gas flow field.Besides,the technique shows great potential in studying the spatiotemporal evolution of discharge plasma. 展开更多
