The method simulates the behavior of the human vision system when perceiving moving objects. The simulation is based on the measured temporal light properties of the display for each gray level and each phosphor. Both the effect of subfield arrangement and phosphor decay are involved. A novel algorithm is proposed to improve the calculation speed. The simulation model manages to predict the appearance of the motion image perceived by a human with a still image. The results are validated by a set of perceptual evaluation experiments. This rapid and accurate prediction of motion artifacts enables objective characterization of the PDP performance in this aspect.展开更多
To investigate the effect of the rib structure on the discharge characteristics of the plasma display panel, the potential distribution, particles density distribution and ions incident angle distribution were examine...To investigate the effect of the rib structure on the discharge characteristics of the plasma display panel, the potential distribution, particles density distribution and ions incident angle distribution were examined by simulation of a two-dimensional particle-in-cell/Monte Carlo collision, with two kinds of rib structure: the stripe rib structure and the Waffle rib structure. The results showed that the distribution of electric potential at the corner of the discharge cell was almost the same for these two rib structures while in the centre there was a difference between these two rib structures. The striation phenomenon could be observed in both cases. The distribution of density also indicated that the striation phenomenon was accompanied by the firing of discharge, and the Waffle rib structure might reduce the density humps. In the cell with a stripe rib structure, the profiles of the surface charge density along the sustained dielectric layer presented a better fluctuating distribution than that in the cell with a Waffle rib structure. The spatial potential and particle density in the discharge bulk showed that the Waffle ribs could weaken the striation phenomenon, which could be explained by the decrease in the particle numbers in the discharge cell. The simulation results of the ion incident angle showed that most ions impacted the sustained dielectric layer in the normal stripe rib cell with an incident angle in the range of 6° to 19° while with the Waffle rib structure the incident angle of most ions was in the range of 4° to 19°. The Waffle rib structure did not affect the angle distribution of incident ions significantly.展开更多

The results indicate that as the Xe gas content in the He-Ne-Xe gas mixture or total pressure increases, the sustaining voltage margin increases, the white-field chromaticity improves, and the discharge current peak has a maximum value, while DTL and FWHM have a minimum value. The mean electron energy in the gas mixture discharge is also calculated through a numerical solution of Boltzmann equation. The experimental results are explained from a view of the mean electron energy variations with the Xe gas content and total gas pressure.展开更多
Paschen law and equations, which ignore the influence of the Penning ionization on the electron ionization coefficient (α), are always used as the approximation of the breakdown voltage criterion of the Penning gas...Paschen law and equations, which ignore the influence of the Penning ionization on the electron ionization coefficient (α), are always used as the approximation of the breakdown voltage criterion of the Penning gas mixture in current researches of discharge characteristics of the plasma display panel (PDP). It is doubtful that whether their results match the facts. Based on the Townsend gas self-sustaining discharge condition and the chemical kinetics analysis of the Penning gas mixture discharging in PDP, the empirical equation to describe the breakdown of the Penning gas mixture is given. It is used to calculate the breakdown voltage curves of Ne-Xe/MgO and Ne-Ar/MgO in a testing macroscopic discharge cell of AC-PDP. The effective secondary electron emission coefficients (γeff) of the MgO protective layers are derived by comparing the breakdown voltage curves obtained from the empirical equation with the experimental data of breakdown voltages. In comparison with the results calculated by the Paschen law and the equation which ignore the influence of the Penning ionization on α , the results calculated by the empirical equation have better conformity with experimental data. The empirical equation characterizes the breakdown of the Penning gas mixture in PDP effectively, and gives a convenient way to study its breakdown characteristics and the secondary electron emission behaviors.展开更多

Four kinds of non-standaxd geometries (i.e. D-, △-, W- and U-shape electrodes) have been considered. The characteristics of the discharge current, the operating voltage and the discharge efficiency of different configurations have been discussed. It is found that the discharge efficiency can be improved by about 10%-30% compared with the standard geometry, while the operating voltage increases slightly in the non-standard geometries. The respective ratios of VI...The relationship between infrared light (IR) and vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) emission in shadow mask plasma display panels (SMPDP) at high xenon content and high voltage is investigated. The respective ratios of VIS/IR-823 am, VIS/IR-828 nm and of efficacy/VIS/IR-823 nm, efficacy/VIS/IR-823 nm are calculated to determine the behavior of the xenon excitation efficiency and the electron excitation efficiency as a function of the driving voltage and xenon content. It is found that the xenon excitation efficiency is almost independent of the driving voltage, and increases approximately linearly with the xenon content. The values for efficacy/VIS/IR-828 nm increase rapidly with the xenon content, but saturate at a xenon ratio of about 30% while, on the other hand, the efficacy/VIS/IR-823 nm values decrease continuously with the xenon content.展开更多
The Ba x-0.05MgAl 10O 16+x∶Eu 2+ 0.05 (0.88≤x ≤1.02) phosphors with different Ba 2+ content and the Ba 0.85MgAl 10O 16.94∶Eu 2+ 0.09 phosphors with different fluxes (BaF 2, MgF 2, AlF ...The Ba x-0.05MgAl 10O 16+x∶Eu 2+ 0.05 (0.88≤x ≤1.02) phosphors with different Ba 2+ content and the Ba 0.85MgAl 10O 16.94∶Eu 2+ 0.09 phosphors with different fluxes (BaF 2, MgF 2, AlF 3, BaCl 2, MgCl 2, AlCl 3, H 3BO 3) were prepared by high temperature solid-state reaction method and their luminescence characteristics were studied under 254 nm excitation and vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) excitation. With the increase of the Ba 2+ content, there is an increase in the emission intensity, and when x=0.94, it reaches a maximum. Then, as the Ba 2+ content increases, the emission intensity slowly falls. The fluorides have better flux-effects than chlorides and H 3BO 3. The possible mechanism in the process of particle growth was discussed when fluorides were used as fluxes. The effect of the activator concentration on this system was also investigated. The quenching concentration is 0.13 mol in per mole host.展开更多

The influence of the width of the electrode, the sustaining voltage, sustaining frequency and the voltage of the shadow mask on the anode striation was also studied. The results showed that the width of the electrodes, the sustaining voltage and frequency had a strong influence on the anode striation. Results & Conclusion The calculation results of flicker index indicate that flicker can be obviously weakened via increase of subfield number, symmetrical s election and homogeneous interlaced distribution of major weight subfields . In the method, two groups of display electrodes are selected from a coplanar AC PDP and two...A new method is developed to measure the wall charge waveforms in coplanar alternating current plasma display panel (AC PDP). In the method, two groups of display electrodes are selected from a coplanar AC PDP and two capacitors are respectively connected with these two groups of display electrodes in series, and a measuring circuit and a reference circuit are thus constructed. With the help of special processing, discharge takes place in the cells included in the measuring circuit under a normal drive voltage but no discharge takes place in the cells included in the reference circuit under a normal drive voltage. The wall charge waveforms are obtained from the voltage difference between the two capacitors. Using the method, the wall charge waveforms are measured during resetting period, addressing period and sustaining period for the 304.8mm (12-inch) test PDP panel. The result shows that the wall voltage is about 96V during the sustaining period.展开更多

The origin of the striation is related only to the physical process in the cell. The dielectric layer acts as a charge collector during a PDP discharge.

文摘The relationship between infrared light (IR) and vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) emission in shadow mask plasma display panels (SMPDP) at high xenon content and high voltage is investigated. The respective ratios of VIS/IR-823 am, VIS/IR-828 nm and of efficacy/VIS/IR-823 nm, efficacy/VIS/IR-823 nm are calculated to determine the behavior of the xenon excitation efficiency and the electron excitation efficiency as a function of the driving voltage and xenon content. It is found that the xenon excitation efficiency is almost independent of the driving voltage, and increases approximately linearly with the xenon content. The values for efficacy/VIS/IR-828 nm increase rapidly with the xenon content, but saturate at a xenon ratio of about 30% while, on the other hand, the efficacy/VIS/IR-823 nm values decrease continuously with the xenon content.
文摘The Ba x-0.05MgAl 10O 16+x∶Eu 2+ 0.05 (0.88≤x ≤1.02) phosphors with different Ba 2+ content and the Ba 0.85MgAl 10O 16.94∶Eu 2+ 0.09 phosphors with different fluxes (BaF 2, MgF 2, AlF 3, BaCl 2, MgCl 2, AlCl 3, H 3BO 3) were prepared by high temperature solid-state reaction method and their luminescence characteristics were studied under 254 nm excitation and vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) excitation. With the increase of the Ba 2+ content, there is an increase in the emission intensity, and when x=0.94, it reaches a maximum. Then, as the Ba 2+ content increases, the emission intensity slowly falls. The fluorides have better flux-effects than chlorides and H 3BO 3. The possible mechanism in the process of particle growth was discussed when fluorides were used as fluxes. The effect of the activator concentration on this system was also investigated. The quenching concentration is 0.13 mol in per mole host.

文摘A new type of AC PDP(alternating current plasma display panel) cell with a five-electrode structure is developed to improve the luminous efficiency of AC PDP.The discharge efficiency of this new cell structure is investigated by a 2D fluid simulation. Continuity equations and flux density equations for charged particles and excited atoms, energy balance equation for electrons are included in the model. The discharge gas is He+5%Xe. The reactions of ionization, excitation, recombination, and radiation are taken into account. The vacuum ultraviolet radiation efficiency of the five-electrode cell structure is about 20% higher than that of a conventional three-electrode cell structure.

文摘A macro-cell was used to study the phenomenon of anode striation on a 34 VGA Shadow Mask Plasma Display Panel (SMPDP). The breakdown process in the sustaining period of the macro-cell was taken by an Intensified Charge Coupled Device(ICCD) with narrow band filters. The mechanism of formation and evolution of the anode striation on SMPDP were investigated. The influence of the width of the electrode, the sustaining voltage, sustaining frequency and the voltage of the shadow mask on the anode striation was also studied. The results showed that the width of the electrodes, the sustaining voltage and frequency had a strong influence on the anode striation. The voltage of the shadow mask, however, hardly affected the anode striation, the firing voltage or the sustaining voltage.

文摘Highly efficient phosphors under vacuum ultraviolet excitation are still demanded for the development of plasma display panels and Hg-free fluorescent lamps. The phosphors of Eu3+ doped (Y, Gd, Lu)BO3 were synthesized with solid state reaction method and the contents of y3+ Gd3+, and Lu3+ for plasma display panel red phosphor were optimized under vacuum ultraviolet excitation. Two new potential candidates, which were (Y1-S-TGdsLuT)BO3: Eu^3+ (0〈S〈0.2, 0〈T〈0.1) and (GdlYJLuK)BO3: Eu3+ (0.5〈I〈0.7, 0.2〈J〈0.4, 0〈K〈0.1), were olgtained. The mechanism of luminescence improvement was discussed upon the analysis of crystal microstructure and excitation spectra.

文摘Objective In order to red uc e the flicker in color plasma display panel (PDP), the highly peaked light outpu t at certain positions and the strong luminance difference among subfields, whic h cause flicker in PDP, is analyzed; and a flicker index method is developed to evaluate flicker in PDP based on the flicker theory and the electroencephalograp h response model for luminance. Methods This method considers f licker as a main result of the fundamental frequency component of luminance supe rimposed on the DC-component, the flicker index is defined as ratio between the positive square roots of the sum of the two square components. Results & Conclusion The calculation results of flicker index indicate that flicker can be obviously weakened via increase of subfield number, symmetrical s election and homogeneous interlaced distribution of major weight subfields . Fli cker can be further reduced by choosing the suitable subfield order according to gray scale region of image.
文摘A new method is developed to measure the wall charge waveforms in coplanar alternating current plasma display panel (AC PDP). In the method, two groups of display electrodes are selected from a coplanar AC PDP and two capacitors are respectively connected with these two groups of display electrodes in series, and a measuring circuit and a reference circuit are thus constructed. With the help of special processing, discharge takes place in the cells included in the measuring circuit under a normal drive voltage but no discharge takes place in the cells included in the reference circuit under a normal drive voltage. The wall charge waveforms are obtained from the voltage difference between the two capacitors. Using the method, the wall charge waveforms are measured during resetting period, addressing period and sustaining period for the 304.8mm (12-inch) test PDP panel. The result shows that the wall voltage is about 96V during the sustaining period.
