Results showed that the efficacy of DME in c...The water extract of dry mycelium ofPenicillium chrysogenum (DME) was used to induce resistance in Virginia tobacco plants against Phtophthora parasitica var. nicotianae. Results showed that the efficacy of DME in controlling black shank disease depended on both DME solution concentration and its' treatment methodology. Soil application of 1.5-5% DME 72 hr before inoculation with Phtophthora parasitica vat. nicotianae provided highly significant protection against black shank, relative to the control without DME treatment. Optimized tobacco plant treatment with 2.5% DME significantly increased peroxidase (POD) and polyphenol oxidase (PPO) activity levels in the upper leaf sections of the tobacco plants. DME had no direct antifungal activity on the growth of Phtophthora parasitica var. nicotianae in vitro, suggesting that disease control with DME treatment resulted from the induced propagation of natural defense mechanisms in the tobacco plants.展开更多

Parameters evaluated included: subjective dry eye symptoms(dryness, foreign body sensation and photophobia), tear film breakup time(TBUT), Schirmer Ⅰ test without anesthesia(S Ⅰ T), tear meniscus height(TMH) and corneal fluorescein staining. Each parameter was evaluated before, and subsequently at 1d, 1wk, 1 and3 mo after surgery.·RESULTS: Compared with preoperative data, dryness was noted to be significantly increased at 1wk and 1mo postoperatively(P 〈0.01). Symptoms of photophobia and foreign body sensation demonstrated significant differences at 1d and 1wk as compared with preoperative scores respectively(P 〈0.01). These values were decreased at 1 and 3mo post-surgery(P 〉0.05).Conversely the corneal staining scores were higher than the preoperative data at 1d, 1wk and 1mo(P 〈0.01), but were close to the preoperative level at 3mo postoperatively. There was a significant decrease in TMH at 1wk and 1mo(P 〈0.01), but the value was close to the preoperative level at 3mo postoperatively(P =0.16). The examination outcomes of S Ⅰ T were significantly increased at 1d then reduced at 1wk after surgery(P 〈0.01). Each value subsequently returned to the baseline value at 1 and 3mo(P 〉0.05). Ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene(UHMWPE)membranes were prepared by 5 wt%UHMWPE/parafn oil gels via thermally induced phase separation method and dried in air without signifcant collapse.The UHMWPE membranes we...Ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene(UHMWPE)membranes were prepared by 5 wt%UHMWPE/parafn oil gels via thermally induced phase separation method and dried in air without signifcant collapse.The UHMWPE membranes were annealed at 110℃ for increasing the pores size in order to decrease the capillary forces.Furthermore,a new multiple stage extractant exchange drying(MSEED)technique was adopted to decrease the shrinkage of the UHMWPE membranes.Specifcally,the parafn oil was extracted by dichloromethane,then dichloromethane was replaced by ethanol,next ethanol could be exchanged to other liquid which is non-afnity with UHMWPE,for example water.UHMWPE membranes(annealing for 25 min)dried by dichloromethane-ethanol-water-air process have the lowest volume shrinkage of 16.5%and the porosity is as high as 88.29%.Moreover,compared with supercritical CO_(2)(SC-CO_(2))drying,atmospheric drying UHMWPE membranes have a lower pure water permeance,but a higher carbon particles rejection.展开更多
