In the study of contemporary environmental ethics, some new trends of thought in East Asian cultural perspectives have emerged, which are of great value for further coordinating the relationship between human and nature.Although the Western non-anthropocentrism environmental ethics has played a positive role in environmental protection,it also has various shortcomings in theory and practice. It needs to supplement and improve with the new environmental ethics of East Asian culture. These environmental ethics thoughts based on the traditional view draw on the perspectives of Western phenomenology and cognitive philosophy, and propose new ideas with East Asian cultural characteristics from the aspects of practice subject, realization way,and value judgment criteria, which help to reveal deep connection between ethics and native culture, and makes environmental ethics play a more effective role in protecting the ecological environment and promoting the development of human society. 展开更多

Ancient Japanese music books have been quite effective in preserving the way the Chinese culture of time evolved dynamically abroad.Studying the relationship of music and dance with the times and festivals revealed in Japanese music books can help restore the context of the rituals and customs of music lost in its Chinese homeland.Japanese Gagaku has succeeded in passing down the seasonal quality of ancient Chinese banquet music which echoed the cycle of times, seasons and phenology and produced a seasonal regularity under which the music corresponded to the season. Some more symbolic Chinese music and dance were selected as the standard music for festivals such as the Double Third Festival, the Double Seventh Festival, and the Dragon Boat Festival. The many aspects of the Chinese culture of time that were accepted by Japan were threedimensional:they included not only the calendar, solar terms, festivals, and other points of time and knowledge of the seasons, but also cultural customs such as sacrificial ceremonies, music and dance, literary narratives, meat and drink, and sports and games. The culture of time that originated from the Han and Tang dynasties not only sustains East Asian countries'identification with natural laws and time, but also shapes their societies'shared aesthetic perception of nature, time, and life. 展开更多

Emperor Qianlong of the Qing dynasty celebrated his eightieth birthday in 1790, for which Vietnam, Korea, the Ryukyu Islands, Burma, and Mongolia sent delegates to the imperial summer resort at Chengde 承德 to pay homage. Curiously, the Annamese (or, Vietnamese) king NguygnQuangB]nh (阮光平), who had just defeated the Qing army, offered to appear in Qing costume and kowtow to the Qing emperor. The unusual act pleased Emperor Qianlong and infuriated the Korean delegates. What did costume and ceremonial mean in the context of the East Asian political and cultural order? Why did the British embassy to China led by Lord Macartney three years later cause friction with regards to sartorial and ceremonial manners? This lecture will address these questions. 展开更多
