Determination of Smoothing Factor for the Inversion of Co-seismic Slip Distribution

For the determination of the smoothing factor (also known as the regularization parameter) in the co-seismic slip distribution inversion, the compromise curve between the model roughness and the data fitting residual is generally used to determine (in order to distinguish the method proposed in this paper, the method is called “L curve” according to its shape). Based on the L-curve, the Eclectic Intersection curve as a new method is proposed to determine the smoothing factor in this paper. The results of the simulated experiment show that the inversion accuracy of the parameters of the seismic slip distribution with the smoothing factor determined by the Eclectic Intersection curve method is better than that of the L curve method. Moreover, the Eclectic Intersection curve method and the L curve method are used to determine the smoothing factor of L’Aquila earthquake and the Taiwan Meinong earthquake slip distribution inversion respectively, and the inversion results are compared and analyzed. The analysis results show that the L’Aquila and the Taiwan Meinong actual earthquake slip distribution results are in the range of other scholars at home and abroad, and compared with the L curve method, the Eclectic Intersection curve method has advantages of high computation efficiency, no need to depend on data fitting degree and more appropriate of smoothing factor and so on.

Food Habits of <i>Bryconaethiops boulengeri </i>Pellegrin, 1900 (Characiformes: Alestidae) of Djiri River Tributary of the Right Bank of Congo River

Diet of 300 specimens of Bryconaethiops boulengeri from Djiri River (Congo Brazzaville) caught with cash nets was studied according to the size of fish, sampling stations and hydrological season. Sampling focused on twelve annual withdrawals made during three years. The relative importance index combining numerical and weight percentages of occurrence was calculated and also the sex ratio was evaluated. Bryconaethiops boulengeri consumes terrestrial and aquatic insects and everything that falls into the water (birds feathers, plant debris, fruits, etc.). The percentage of emptiness is 9.66% of the three sampling stations selected;no significant difference in diet was observed whatever the season.

Beginnings of Modern Urbanity and Architectural Expression： The Balkan Tale of Northern Greece

The urban consciousness under foreign domination is a complex issue, especially when the reporting period is the 19th century, the century of great social, ethnic, and economic changes in Europe. The issue is further complicated in the case of the Balkans, during the latter period of Ottoman rule. But how did certain cities manage to emerge from rural or suburban enslaved routine and develop a European urbanity？ An urbanity expressed itself as lifestyle （habits, costumes, entertainment）, as art and as formation of the urban environment and architecture. The State pushed for modernization by the Great Powers, ethnic communities with parent countries seeking to differentiate themselves from their “backward” conquerors, economic opportunities through trade and new visual observations by penetration of European countries and companies： all this would create suitable conditions for an unprecedented urbanization. This shift in the quality of life was clearly expressed in the new architecture, which always continued, as ever, to reflect the cultural activity. The transition from vernacular architecture to historicism and eclectism would capture the most characteristic moment of the beginning of urbanization in northern Greece.

Psychotherapy with American Indians

American Indians are a substantial minority in both the United States and Canada and present with a disproportionate share of mental health and behavioral health problems. While a large proportion of the native population resides on reservations that are self-managed and have few non-Indian residents, professional health services are mostly provided by clinicians from the dominant culture. The essay tries to highlight specific historical, sociological, and cultural variables the clinician must be aware of to work effectively in this setting. Particular emphasis is placed on using a flexible, eclectic approach, and a case vignette is included to illustrate the principle.

Three-circles coinciding process： On FLT and ＂eclecticism＂

In the paper, the author constructs a model of three circles coinciding shown in two diagrams which are analogous to Venn diagram of set theory of mathematics, to illustrate both the process of FLT and the interaction of various factors intermeshed mainly in eight domains. The way the factors operate on FLT can be more visibly symbolized by that the three circles come to coincide in the diagrams. In the light of the model, it seems quite reasonable for us to adopt an ＂eclectic＂ approach to FLT, due to the complexity of FLT and FLL, and to practice FLT at a tentative time ratio： 6 vs. 4; 5 vs. 5; and 4 vs. 6 for input vs. output in teaching students respectively at three different levels. With this awareness increasing, teachers can practice sensitive teaching to cater for individuals in a class more sufficiently through flexible and diversified teaching techniques, targeting different goals： form, meaning, accuracy, fluency, complexity and so on.

A Historical Analysis on Communicative Language Teaching in China

Communicative language teaching(CLT), focusing on the development of communicative competence, was proved to beone of the most effective way of language teaching. Since the late 1980 s, CLT has been introduced into China and known by thou-sands of teachers and researchers. Chinese culture of learning is set in the study as a context to review the implementation of CLT,including difficulties caused by potential cultural resistance and progress been made up till now. The appropriate way of implement-ing the pedagogical import is also explored and it argues that the bright future of CLT in China will be brought by deep understand-ing about it from a linguistic view, an eclectic approach to use it, special training for ESL teachers and communicative assessmentmatched with the tenets of CLT.

ECLECTICISM: A "COMPROMISE" IN COLLEGE ENGLISH TEACHING IN CHINA

The article attempts to analyze the approaches to foreign language teaching and their influence in Chinese colleges and universities. However, it is hard and irresponsible to aimlessly conclude which one is the most effective approach in teaching English as a foreign language in China. In fact, quite a few of equivalently effective approaches should be simultaneously used. Thus the author reduces all of them to one term 'eclecticism', which is a mixture of a host of different approaches/methods.

An Eclectic Approach to College English Syllabus Design

In response to the call of the College English Curriculum Requirements for colleges and universitiesto design their own College English Syllabuses,this paper proposes an eclectic approach to syllabusdesign which combines the pedagogical principles of the more familiar language syllabus with thoseof the content-based syllabus as well as the task-based approach in the selection,organization,presentation,and practice of the teaching content.It is argued that such an approach to syllabus designcan accommodate both language and language use on the one hand,and learners’ immediate needsand future needs on the other hand.
