The Practice Strategy of Construction of Ecological Garden City in China: A Case Study of Action of “Xuchang Being Full of Green” in Xuchang City

Starting from the purpose and current situation of the implementation of action of "Xuchang being full of green",this study analyzed the problems existing in the implementation of action of "Xuchang being full of green" and discussed the implementation plan of action of "Xuchang being full of green" from two aspects of macro strategy and node promotion strategy,hoping to promote the construction of ecological garden cities in Xuchang and other cities in China.

Research on Ecological Corridor Planning of Lanzhou Yuzhong Ecological Innovation City from the Perspective of Ecological Civilization

The practice and research of ecological civilization is a focus of current planning and design,as well as a scientific strategy under the current situation of resource constraint,environmental degradation and ecosystem degradation.Urban elements such as buildings,green land,farmland,water systems and mountains can be connected by ecological corridors into a green ecological system design.At present,many ecological and environmental problems,such as urban heat island effect,fog and haze,automobile exhaust have a negative effect on the construction of social ecological environment.In order to build a new modern city with prosperous economy,beautiful environment and social civilization,scientific and efficient ecological corridors should be designed to improve the environmental quality of the eco-city,and promote the construction and development of ecological civilization and green cities.Based on the relevant research and specific practices of ecological corridors at home and abroad,combine the needs of the planning and construction of the Yuzhong Ecological Innovation City,and discuss on the connotation and characteristics of ecological corridors,and discuss the key elements of ecological corridor planning.This article will take the ecological corridor planning of Yuzhong Eco-Innovation City as an example.We design ecological corridor based on field investigation,literature and geographic information system..The planning and design of the ecological corridor in the planning area proposed in this paper can provide positive suggestion on the planning and design of the ecological corridor in other ecological innovation cities.

Green development of western cities from the perspective of informatization and greenization

The Fifth Plenary meeting of the 18 th Central Committee put forward the idea of creative green development, which become the guide which is important concept of economic and social development in our country in the future. The contradiction between resource environment and economic development is becoming more and more outstanding with the speeding up of urbanization process in western region. The coming of big data and information age, makes the wisdom of ecological city construction to be the mainstream direction of urban development, and green development also become the core of the ecological city wisdom. In ecological concept gradually deepening of the information age, the construction of smart ecological city becomes the mainstream direction, green development also becomes the core of the smart ecological city. The path and strategies of promoting green development of western cities based on the smart ecological cities were presented in this paper, through the analysis of the background of the smart ecological city construction, the calculation of the environment carrying capacity and the ecological footprint, as well as the target for the sustainable green development of the western cities.

Evolution and future of urban ecological science:ecology in,of,and for the city

The contrast between ecology in cities and ecology of cities has emphasized the increasing scope of urban ecosystem research.Ecology in focuses on terrestrial and aquatic patches within cities,suburbs,and exurbs as analogs of non-urban habitats.Urban fabric outside analog patches is considered to be inhospi-table matrix.Ecology of the city differs from ecology in by treating entire urban mosaics as social-ecolog-ical systems.Ecology of urban ecosystems incorporates biological,social,and built components.Originally posed as a metaphor to visualize disciplinary evolution,this paper suggests that the contrast has conceptual,empirical,and methodological contents.That is,the contrast constitutes a disciplinary or“local”paradigm shift.The paradigm change between ecology in and ecology of represents increased complexity,moving from focus on biotic communities to holistic social-ecological systems.A third paradigm,ecology for the city,has emerged due to concern for urban sustainability.While ecology for includes the knowledge generated by both ecology in and ecology of,it considers researchers as a part of the system,and acknowledges that they may help envision and advance the social goals of urban sustainability.Using urban heterogeneity as a key urban feature,the three paradigms are shown to contrast in five important ways:disciplinary focus,the relevant theory of spatial heterogeneity,the technology for representing spatial structure,the resulting classification of urban mosaics,and the nature of application to sustainability.Ecology for the city encourages ecologists to engage with other specialists and urban dwellers to shape a more sustainable urban future.

Analysis Framework for the Low Carbon Eco-City Regulatory Plan Administration System: The Case Study on the Planning of Eco-City of Taihu New City, Wuxi, China

Chinese cities need the appropriate administration system and governance model to support the implementation of low carbon eco-city projects, and to effectively scale up this urban development model across the nation. Currently, local planning authorities are piloting the implementation of these low carbon eco-city projects through the statutory Regulatory Plans system(the local district zoning plans system). However, the focus has been put primarily on the use of the relevant technologies and the control through design approval. There is a lack on research and study on the establishment of an effective planning administration and governance environment for the subsequent promulgation of this development model. This situation is affecting the speed in the scaling up of the implementation of low carbon ecological projects in Chinese cities. This paper argues that while technology applications and design issues are important factors, attention shall be put to setting up innovative planning administration and governance models for the statutory Regulatory Plan to facilitate the implementation of the low carbon eco-city projects. This paper puts forth an analysis framework on the administration and governance system which includes 4 governance components:(1) Administration platform and local capacity;(2) Planning conditions and approval process;(3) External public policy context;(4) Developers involvement and participation. A case study was undertaken based on Taihu New City eco-city project located at Wuxi, China. Based on research and analysis of the project implementation process, the study examines the challenges faced by the local planning offi cials and development companies during the implementation stage of the low carbon eco-city project. Finally this paper puts forth initial recommendations that could lead to further research in this important area.

Linking science and decision making to promote an ecology for the city:practices and opportunities

To promote urban sustainability and resilience,there is an increasing demand for actionable science that links science and decision making based on social-ecological knowledge.Approaches,frameworks,and practices for such actionable science are needed and have only begun to emerge.We propose that approaches based on the co-design and co-production of knowledge can play an essential role to meet this demand.Although the antecedents for approaches to the co-design and co-production of knowledge are decades old,the integration of science and practice to advance urban sustainability and resilience that we present is different in several ways.These differences include the disciplines needed,diversity and number of actors involved,and the technological infrastructures that facilitate local-to global connections.In this article,we discuss how the new requirements and possibilities for co-design,co-production,and practical use of social-ecological research can be used as an ecology for the city to promote urban sustainability and resilience.While new technologies are part of the solution,traditional approaches also remain important.Using our urban experiences with long-term,place-based research from several U.S.Long-Term Ecological Research sites and U.S.Department of Agriculture,Forest Service Urban Field Stations,we describe a dynamic framework for linking research with decisions.We posit that this framework,coupled with a user-defined,theory-based approach to science,is instrumental to advance both practice and science.Ultimately,cities are ideal places for integrating basic science and decision making,facilitating flows of information through networks,and developing sustainable and resilient solutions and futures.

Ecological Ways to Design the Tropical Coastal Cities

Design with ecology has been a newtrend of design in the world due to the globalenvironmental issues.Tropical coastal cities need to bedesigned according to ecological principles thanks totheir high visual and ecological sensitivity.Ecological de-sign requires designers to respect environmental limita-tion and advantages and to create a diversity of habitat,and hence of opportunities for the coexistence of di-verse organisms (including man himself).This paper ex-pounds the characteristics of the approach,shows sometechniques and suggests the difficulties and some possi-ble ways for designing with ecology in China.
