Theory of Flexural Shear, Bending and Torsion for a Thin-Walled Beam of Open Section

Aspects of the general Vlasov theory are examined separately as applied to a thin-walled channel section cantilever beam under free-end end loading. In particular, the flexural bending and shear that arise under transverse shear and axial torsional loading are each considered theoretically. These analyses involve the location of the shear centre at which transverse shear forces when applied do not produce torsion. This centre, when taken to be coincident with the centre of twist implies an equivalent reciprocal behaviour. That is, an axial torsion applied concentric with the shear centre will twist but not bend the beam. The respective bending and shear stress conversions are derived for each action applied to three aluminium alloy extruded channel sections mounted as cantilevers with a horizontal principal axis of symmetry. Bending and shear are considered more generally for other thin-walled sections when the transverse loading axes at the shear centre are not parallel to the section = s centroidal axes of principal second moments of area. The fixing at one end of the cantilever modifies the St Venant free angular twist and the free warping displacement. It is shown from the Wagner-Kappus torsion theory how the end constrained warping generates an axial stress distribution that varies with the length and across the cross-section for an axial torsion applied to the shear centre. It should be mentioned here for wider applications and validation of the Vlasov theory that attendant papers are to consider in detail bending and torsional loadings applied to other axes through each of the centroid and the web centre. Therein, both bending and twisting arise from transverse shear and axial torsion applied to each position being displaced from the shear centre. Here, the influence of the axis position upon the net axial and shear stress distributions is to be established. That is, the net axial stress from axial torsional loading is identified with the sum of axial stress due to bending and axial stress arising from constrained warping displacements at the fixing. The net shear stress distribution overlays the distributions from axial torsion and that from flexural shear under transverse loading. Given the conditions of residual coal from the boundary of a flat dipping open-pit mine,which uses strip areas mining and inner dumping with slope-covering,we propose an open-pit and underground integrated mining technology for residual coal of end slopes.In the proposal a conveyance road and ventilation conveyance near the slope are built,corresponding to the pit mining area and the surface coal mine dump,as well as an interval haulage tunnel and air-inlet tunnel.The outcome shows that such mining method may reduce the effect to slope stability from underground mining,it does not affect the dumping advance and has a high recovery rate of residual coal resources.The working face is timbered by single hydraulic props,transported by a scraper conveyor and supported by coal walls.This method of mining is one of layered top coal caving,with high resource recovery,low production cost where positive economic benefit can be realized. 展开更多

Under an optical microscope, the positions and the corresponding deflections of the original cantilevers(with iron catalytic nanoparticles at the free end) and corresponding cut-off cantilevers(the free ends consisting of open ends of MWNTs) are studied. Both kinds of CNT cantilevers are found to be attracted by the magnet, and the point of application of force is proven to be at the tip of the cantilever. By measuring and comparing deflections between these two kinds of cantilevers, the magnetic moment at the open ends of the CNTs can be quantified.Due to the unexpectedly high value of the magnetic moment at the open ends of carbon nanotubes, it is called giant magnetic moment, and its possible mechanisms are proposed and discussed. 展开更多

Natural convection in an open end cavity with a hot inclined wall is simulated based on the lattice Boltzmann method (LBM). The physics of flow and energy transfer in open end cavities are addressed when the hot wall is inclined. The combination of the two topics (open cavity and inclined walls) is the main novelty of the present study. The effects of the angle of the hot inclined wall on the flow field and heat transfer are thoroughly investigated. The Prandtl number is fixed to 0.71 (air). The Rayleigh number and the angle of the hot inclined wall are varied in the range of 10^4 to 10^6 and 60° to 85°, respectively. The results are presented for two different aspect ratios, i.e., A = 1 and 2. The results obtained with the LBM are also compared with those of the finite volume method (FVM). The predicted results of the LBM conform to those of the FVM. The results show that by increasing the angle of the hot inclined wall and the aspect ratio of the cavity, the average Nusselt number decreases. The trend of the local Nusselt number on the inclined wall is also discussed. 展开更多

Hydroxyl terminated PVP, synthesized with 2-mercaptoethanol as a chain transfer reagent, was employed as a rnacroinitiator. The resulting copolymers were characterized by GPC, ^1H NMR and IR. Increasing the BTMC/PVP-OH feed ratio ([B]/[P]) resulted in the increase of Mn of corresponding copolymers and the decrease of Mw/Mn. Immobilized enzyme has comparable catalytic activity to SnOct2 for the copolymerization. 展开更多

This paper explores the disposition effect, the tendency of investors to hold losing investments too long and sell winning investments too soon, by analyzing a unique data set that consists of the buying and selling positions of open-end fund investors in China. Results show that investors' buying and selling behaviors are significantly affected by fund performance. The reasons that lie behind such results are mainly related to the non-persistence of fund performance. When fund performance is non-persistent, investors are not clear about the future returns on funds. So, investors, especially individual investors, would have to realize the profits on hand immediately. Meanwhile, fund investors are highly sensitive to fund age and loading fees, but not sensitive to management fees charged by funds when they buy or sell fund shares. 展开更多

During the installation of a pipe pile,the soil around the pile will be squeezed out. This paper deals with this squeezing effect of open-ended pipe piles using the cylindrical cavity expansion theory. The characteristics of soil with different tension and compression moduli and dilation are involved by applying the elastic theory with different moduli and logarithmic strain. The closed-form solutions of the radius of the plastic region,the displacement of the boundary between the plastic region and the elastic region and the expansion pressure on the external surface of the pipe piles are obtained. When obtaining these solutions,the soil plug in the open-ended pipe pile is considered by employing an incremental filling ratio to quantify the degree of soil plugging. Moreover,the effects of the ratio of tension and compression moduli,angle of dilation and incremental filling ratio on the radius of the plastic region and the expansion pressure on the external surface of the pipe pile are investigated. The parametric analyses show that it is necessary and important to consider the difference between the tension modulus and compression modulus,dilation angle and incremental filling ratio for studying the squeezing effect of open-ended pipe pile installation. It is concluded that the analytical solutions presented in this paper are suitable for studying the squeezing effect of open-ended pipe piles. 展开更多

Prostate cancer and its treatment have long-term implications for men’s lives. We aimed to describe the content, extent, and frequency of written comments to the open-ended question, “Further comments?” in the patient-reported outcome measures questionnaire. During the study period, 897 men participated;372 wrote 747 free-text comments in the questionnaire. These comments were analysed using qualitative content analysis and were grouped into four categories: 1) prostate cancer’s influence on health;2) clarifications of answers to the survey;3) descriptions of well-being despite the cancer;and 4) experiences of care and the need for contact with health care. The distribution of the comments shifted over time. The open-ended question not only allowed the participants to explain their other responses and describe important aspects of their lives during and after treatment, something not normally covered by a questionnaire, but it also indicated their experiences of health care services along the patients’ PC-trajectory. This further raises the issue of including an open-ended item in a forced-choice survey into the ethical realm to ensure that proper care is taken of participants’ answers and thoughts. 展开更多

研究饱和黏性土中静压沉桩引起的桩土界面孔压增量及有效径向应力的变化规律对工程实践具有重要意义。利用自制的大比例模型试验系统,通过双壁开口和闭口管桩,实现了开口和闭口桩桩身表面嵌入式安装微型测试元件,得到了考虑孔压增量的... 研究饱和黏性土中静压沉桩引起的桩土界面孔压增量及有效径向应力的变化规律对工程实践具有重要意义。利用自制的大比例模型试验系统,通过双壁开口和闭口管桩,实现了开口和闭口桩桩身表面嵌入式安装微型测试元件,得到了考虑孔压增量的桩土界面有效径向应力的变化规律。研究结果表明:入土深度越大,桩土界面孔压增量及有效径向应力越大,闭口桩桩土界面超孔压大于开口桩;桩身上部桩土界面超孔压和有效径向应力小于桩身下部;同一入土深度,随着桩身h/L的增加,桩土界面土压力存在侧压力“退化”的现象;特定试验条件下,闭口和开口桩桩土界面超孔压与上覆有效土体自重比值最大值分别是61.2%和52.1%,桩土界面有效径向应力是超孔压的3.76~5.46倍。桩土界面超孔压和有效径向应力与桩身h/L位置有关。 展开更多

明清小说的繁荣,带来了小说观念和小说理论的繁富,小说家纷纷对小说的结构艺术进行深刻思考。在这个背景下,作为明清小说中一个新品种的道教仙道小说,据初步统计共48部,它们的作者都曾苦心经营过这些小说的结构模式,结果是全部48部仙道... 明清小说的繁荣,带来了小说观念和小说理论的繁富,小说家纷纷对小说的结构艺术进行深刻思考。在这个背景下,作为明清小说中一个新品种的道教仙道小说,据初步统计共48部,它们的作者都曾苦心经营过这些小说的结构模式,结果是全部48部仙道小说无一例外地按照“仙界开局式”“凡间发展式”“玉局结尾式”,即“仙界→人世→仙界”的三段结构形式来布局谋篇,这种模式同时也策应了明清文法、戏法、小说法等提倡的豹头、猪肚、凤尾的结构理论。究其原因,主要受诸如《太平经》等早期道教在经典制作上的文本模式的影响。但是明清仙道小说在结构安排、叙述风格等方面也存在诸多差异性,这是服从于仙道小说自身发展的内在要求和其他外在客观因素所必然导致的结果。 展开更多

为简化驱动开绕组异步电机(OEWIM)的双逆变器结构,提出一种L型双输出三电平变换器(L-DO-TLC)拓扑。将T型三电平拓扑与九开关拓扑相结合,通过器件复用方式简化拓扑结构,仅需15个开关器件即可实现双三电平输出,有效降低了系统成本。首先... 为简化驱动开绕组异步电机(OEWIM)的双逆变器结构,提出一种L型双输出三电平变换器(L-DO-TLC)拓扑。将T型三电平拓扑与九开关拓扑相结合,通过器件复用方式简化拓扑结构,仅需15个开关器件即可实现双三电平输出,有效降低了系统成本。首先详细分析了L-DO-TLC拓扑工作机理,采用含直流偏置的正弦脉宽调制(SPWM)策略实现了双端口独立输出。在此基础上,根据OEWIM驱动的特殊需求及所提拓扑特点,给出一种双端口互差120°OEWIM驱动接线方案并建立了系统数学模型,给出了电压空间矢量分布图。然后利用矢量解耦思想,对双输出端口调制度进行了研究,确立双端口互差120°OEWIM驱动的稳定运行区间。最后,对所提拓扑及控制策略的可行性和有效性进行了验证。 展开更多

露天矿地下水控制技术及对边坡稳定性的影响 被引量:6

我国富水露天矿多且涌水量大,若矿山地下水或边坡处治不当,将面临着“水患难止、边坡难固、有矿难采”的窘境。为解决露天矿遇到的水患和边坡失稳的问题,基于我国露天矿先后发展的垂直疏水孔、水平疏水孔、坑下大口径疏水孔和井群疏水... 我国富水露天矿多且涌水量大,若矿山地下水或边坡处治不当,将面临着“水患难止、边坡难固、有矿难采”的窘境。为解决露天矿遇到的水患和边坡失稳的问题,基于我国露天矿先后发展的垂直疏水孔、水平疏水孔、坑下大口径疏水孔和井群疏水等抽排方式,坑底泄水巷、基坑降水和辐射井疏干等疏放方式以及钻孔注浆帷幕、地下混凝土连续墙帷幕、钻孔咬合桩帷幕、防渗膜帷幕等截水帷幕和地层回灌水帷幕等多种地下水控制技术;开展了不同露天矿地下水控制技术对地下水位、端帮边坡岩土体力学性质变化、坡体应力变化和边坡稳定性系数影响的研究,分析了截水帷幕作用下地下水位抬升与边坡稳定性变化规律。研究结果表明:通过抽排方式、疏放方式将露天矿山地下水疏干或疏降可有效降低地下水位,减少边坡岩土体含水率,提高边坡岩土体黏聚力和内摩擦角,减小坡体的静水压力和水平推力,整体提高边坡稳定性系数,但大量疏排地下水又造成水资源的浪费和污染;截水帷幕能够解决疏排降水造成的地下水位下降幅度太大、疏排水量巨大、水资源浪费和污染的问题;在截水帷幕作用下,露天矿截水帷幕外侧水位不断抬升,引起截水帷幕外侧边坡岩土体含水率增加、黏聚力和内摩擦角减小、坡体的静水压力和水平推力增大,而截水帷幕内侧边坡岩土体含水率减小、黏聚力和内摩擦角增大、坡体的静水压力和水平推力减小,从而引起露天矿边坡稳定性系数略有降低;通过截水帷幕可以控制露天矿边坡地下水位,进而保持边坡岩土体力学参数在合理范围,维持边坡稳定性系数在安全区间,实现露天矿地下水资源保护与边坡安全的平衡。 展开更多
