Based on the elastic thin plate theory,the main law of the ore roof failure was analyzed and the formula of the ore roof thickness was deduced.The results show that the tensile stress in the roof center accounts for the roof failure.According to the limit failure conditions of the point,the formula of the ore roof thickness was derived.Taking No.10 stope of a bauxite mine as an engineering case,the optimal thickness of the ore roof was 0.36 m.The safety factor was taken as 1.3,therefore the design thickness was 0.5 m.In the whole industrial test process,the dynamic alarm devices did not start the alarm and the ore roof was not damaged.Compared with other stopes under similar conditions,its thickness was reduced by 0.1-0.3 m.The recovery rate of the ore roof was increased by 16.7%-37.5%. 展开更多

At present,with the rapid development of science and technology in China and the continuous strengthening of international strategic cooperation,the number of undergraduate students from abroad is increasing year by year.It is increasingly important to carry out curriculum ideological and political education for foreign students and cultivate all-around friendly and patriotic foreign students.Taking engineering mechanics as an example,this paper explores the methods and means of organically integrating curriculum ideological and political education into the course in the process of engineering teaching.This paper analyzes in detail the role of teaching method design,teaching technology innovation,and ideological and political scheme selection in the curriculum ideological and political education of foreign students.This paper demonstrates the organic combination of engineering teaching and foreign students'ideological and political education and explores new methods of curriculum ideological and political education for foreign students in the future. 展开更多

Disk burst accidents sometimes happen in aeroengines.To avoid tragic consequences,aeroengine casings must have sufficient containment capability.Experiments and simulations need to be conducted to study the impact,distortion,and perforation caused by disk burst and which may give important clues to potential failure mechanisms.This paper presents some containment tests of high-speed rotating disk fragments,in which the original disks were burst into three equal fragments within a predetermined rotating speed range.The failure modes of the containment casing varied significantly with the thickness of the containment casing.Shearing,tearing,tensile fracture,and large plastic stretching deformation occurred in a thin-walled containment casing,while a thick-walled casing could contain disk fragments and withstand large plastic deformation.Numerical simulations were carried out to study the impact process and failure modes further.Good agreement was found between the results of the simulations and the tests. 展开更多

Throughout the world, infrastructure to support cities is critical to support sustainable and responsible economic development. This can include new infrastructure projects in the case of growing areas. It can also include the renewal and upgrading of existing infrastructure in areas that have been inhabited and already developed. Infrastructure includes roads, bridges and transportation systems; power grids and energy service;internet and telecommunications; and water and sewer services. This development can be part of a system of systems, in which government, industries, and universities can contribute knowledge, skills, and abilities. This paper will investigate the strategic project management taken by one university to provide an academic experience that will prepare engineering students to address several of the Grand Engineering Challenges of the 21 st Century, as identified by the US National Academy of Engineering.The challenges relating to energy, water, information, and urban infrastructure can be approached using the functions of teaching, research, and service. By approaching the challenges strategically, resources of faculty time, student effort and laboratory facilities can be leveraged to achieve greater results. This case study will describe the efforts and results to date and identify opportunities for future growth. 展开更多
