A Study on the Application of the Chinese English Competence Scale in College English Teaching

The results of the assessment of College Students'English Reading Comprehension Scale based on the Chinese EnglishCompetence Scale show that the assessment of language competence scale can diagnose English teaching and learning in HigherVocational colleges. In order to construct the scale of Chinese college students'ability to speak and act in English, we should ensurethe universality, representativeness and authority of the source of descriptive language and the accuracy, clarity, conciseness,independence and affirmation of descriptive language. Learners can also use the scale to self-evaluate and establish their ownlearning goals. At the same time, the learning time required for each stage is not the same. The learner should determine his ownlearning plan according to his own situation and the standard reference provided by the scale. Its ability grading reflects thecorrespondence between the English level of students in each scholastic school and the ability to describe the descriptors, and it istargeted and instructive for college English teaching. In order to continuously improve the learning effect of college Englishteaching.

On the Cultivation of Chinese Middle School Students’English Communicative Competence

In order to cultivate middle school students’English communicative competence,CLT has become an influential ap⁃proach.Some ways need to be adopted such as reform of teaching materials,transformation of English teachers’role and change of students’role and testing system.

Study of Problem-Based Learning in English Grammar Teaching

This thesis took students from Grade one of Xuancheng No.3 Middle High School as the research objects,mainly employing the classroom observation,the questionnaire,and test to investigate the effect of problem-based learning method in English grammar teaching.The findings are as follows:(a)the scores of students in the experimental class obviously improved;and(b)compared with the traditional teaching method,the application of problem-based learning method in grammar teaching can stimulate students’interest in learning.To sum up,this method can improve students’English competence and learning interest significantly,which suggests it can be applied in grammar teaching.

Stratified Teaching Method of English Picture Book Reading in Primary Schools

With the advancement of the new curriculum reform,many schools have put forward the idea of combing English reading with stratified teaching.Enhancing the effectiveness of reading English picture books is an important goal that most English teachers uphold when reforming the teaching of English reading.In order to achieve this goal,it is necessary to improve the teaching methods of reading.Reading picture books is an important way to improve students5 core competencies in English.However,at present,the method of teaching reading in primary school is simple;in addition,the teaching activities are not well organized.Therefore,in order to improve students5 core competencies in English,this article points out several issues in the teaching of English picture book reading and provides some pedagogical implications for the teaching in this aspect based on the stratified teaching method and classroom observation by including Class 1,Grade 2 students from a primary school in Leshan as the research subjects.

Learner Factors and Contextual Influences of an Overseas Short-term Training Program for Chinese University Teacher Educators

The participants of an overseas three-month program in this paper were divided into 3 levels according to their English language competences,and classroom observation,and interview were conducted during the learning process.Results show the English language competences,interpretation,learners’education and research background and motivation are determining factors affecting classroom behavioral performance and learning effectiveness.

The Application of Blended Learning Approach in EFL Teaching

Blended learning(BL)has been recognized as one of the most promising directions in education development in the modern world as it combines the strengths of traditional educational methods and benefits of online learning technologies.This paper starts with an exploration of BL as a concept,models and its application in language teaching and then probe into the effectiveness of BL approach in English as Foreign Language(EFL)Teaching especially to boost students speaking and listening competence,via a comparative study.With 50 in control group taught through traditional face-to-face instructions and 58 in experiment group through BL method,108 students are involved to find out that BL is conducive to promote students’motivation,self-study as well as activity and also to enhance their speaking and listening skills.

ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF STRATEGIC COMPETENCE IN TEACHING ENGLISH IN CHINA

Introduction Nowadays, the communicative approach has become a common trend in ELT in China, and the term ’communicative competence’ is often heard when English teachers talk about how to improve their students’ ability to use English communicatively. Most teachers no longer use traditional methods of teaching English, particularly to teach speaking, which used to be restricted to sentence-patterning with given vocabulary for substitution drills. They now use all kinds of methods to teach speaking, such as group discussions, news/events reports, story-telling, arguing, expressing opinions, etc.. All these activities are meant to develop students’ ability to use English communicatively. To manipulate these activities well, and get students actively involved in the activities, one important factor in developing communicative competence should be emphasised: strategic competence.
