World English or Englishes： Which Should We Teach in the Context of China？

English isthe most respectable language and the most universally read and spoken language in the world. However, with the spread of English there are a lot of ＂varieties＂ of English. When English is referred to as a ＂world＂ language, we frequently hear reference to World Englishes. With the internationalization of English, EIL （English as International Language） is being taught today in a wide diversity of contexts; any sound pedagogy must be informed by a theory of language learning and teaching that is sufficiently complex to account for this diversity. The essay is intended to argue for teaching a certain Standard English, British, American or Australian English in the context of China. The overall purpose of the bilingual users of English, is to use English as a language of wider communication in a global and sometimes also in a local sense, as well as to access the vast amount of information currently available in English, and also to contribute to this knowledge basis.

Context and Utterance Understanding in English Learning

Meaning in the learning of a language is communicated in many different forms. All meaning is communicated in some form of context and the only way to understanding them is in context. In the learning of English, understanding the cultural context is the most effective way to learn real meaning and to read, write and speak competently.

With the accelerated pace of globalization, trades between countries are becoming more and more frequent. It is under this circumstance that the English demonstrate its importance. As an international language, English has been attached much importance and has enjoyed a world popularity. For example, in recent years, China's foreign trade has been increasing, which has promoted the development of its enterprises. The Relationship between Context and the Teaching of English Listening

Context, as a main domain for linguistic research, greatly influences the understanding in communication. In English listening, context is one of the factors affecting the listening comprehension. However, it is often neglected and as a result, students' listening can't be improved effectively. In order to improve students English listening comprehension, this thesis introduces the theory of context and the substance of English listening, analyses the roles that context plays in English listening from three factors: context of vocabulary、context of situation and context of cultural. It also introduces how to use the context freely when students are listening.

On the Conversion of High-low Context in English-writing of the Test

The concept of high-low context was firstly put forward by an American anthropologist Edward Hall in 1976. Hereafter, more and more social scientists come to realize the importance of this concept on the thorough understanding of the crossculture discrepancy. This article compares the difference between Chinese(representative of high- context culture) and English(representative of low-context culture) in terms of verbal communication patterns. In addition to a discussion of students' common difficulties and inappropriate habits in writing resulting from their mother- tongue and Chinese thinking- mode, it offers some constructive suggestions for students concerning their instruction of writing and aims to achieve good results in the English writing test. It's proved that degradation treatment is necessary and effective in English-writing by using some direct, concrete and vivid words to achieve the effect of veracity and proper statement.

Application of Context Theory in English Vocabulary Teaching in the Secondary Vocational School

This paper conducts a study of English vocabulary teaching in the secondary vocational school based on context theory. Through the quantitative research method, results of the study indicate that it is effective for the secondary vocational school students to improve their vocabulary mnemonic ability, English proficiency and words guessing ability through English vocabulary teaching based on context.

An Investigation of College English Autonomous Learning in Network Multimodal Context

In the current society, based on the growing development of network information technology, the teaching in many colleges and universities has also introduced it to adapt to the situation. This trend can provide more useful conditions for students to learn, which requires students to master enough self-learning abilities to adapt to this model. The study in the paper shows that students are usually interested in autonomous learning in a multimodal environment, but the degree of strategy choice is relatively low, and the learning process is blind and passive with the lack of self-confidence. World Englishes and English Learning in China

The global spread of English is remarkable, for it has developed many different non-native varieties of English("world Englishes"). On account of the varieties of English, the essay reviews briefly historical causes and relevant literature for English globalization. The issues of English localization, who is qualified as English instructor, what kind of English to learn and how is English changing in China are included. 不同语境下虚邪的英译问题

此文通过梳理文献,厘清了虚邪在不同语境下的主体内涵。在中医学中,虚邪的含义主要有两种,一指外感之邪,一指在疾病传变过程中从母脏传来的邪气。作者认为,虚邪的英译应随着语境的不同而有所调整,才能准确表达其中文内涵。虚邪若是指外邪,译为vacuity evil,抑或是译为deficient pathogen,都不是最佳译语;作者认为exogenous pathogenic factors是较佳选择。虚邪若指从母脏传来的邪气,作者认为译为pathogenic factors from mother zang organ较好。
