Oral English Autonomous Learning Ability of English Majors Under the Background of the Internet and Its Improvement

The Internet is an important means of communication for contemporary college students,especially those majoring in English,to acquire knowledge about information and improve their oral proficiency.However,research on the relevant oral English autonomous learning ability of English majors shows that the overall learning situation is not satisfying.Based on the development of the concept of autonomous learning,this article explores the current situation and existing problems in oral English autonomous learning of English majors under the context of the Internet,and proposes corresponding autonomous learning strategies for improving their oral English skill.

A Study on English Learning Interest of English Majors

By analyzing the data,this paper finds the current interest status of the English majors for English learning,and the major factors which affect students' interest in learning English.The relationship between the learning interest of the students and the teaching methods of the teacher are also the major points.

An Analysis of the Causal Reasoning Deficiencies in English Majors' Argumentative Writing

The Syllabus for English Majors at Universities and Colleges(2000) makes it clear to further strengthen the English majors' critical thinking and logical reasoning ability.But how to effectively incorporate the cultivation of critical thinking skills into English majors' core courses,such as the writing courses,remains one of the most important tasks of teaching reform for English majors.The present study is aimed at having a systematic analysis on the causal reasoning deficiencies in English majors' argumentative writing.Furthermore,the reasons resulting in the causal reasoning deficiencies and the implications for the teaching of second language writing are explored.

The Research on the Problems of Writing in English Majors

In this semester, through an experience of teaching advanced writing for English majors, I have got all-around observation of the process of learning English writing in third year English majors. The problems of vague and general content and absent critical thinking ability in their writings have been found, and the practical teaching methods and practices have been adopted to help them to write substantively. In this paper, absent critical thinking ability in students' writing, the phenomena of the problem have been analyzed, the reasons of the absence have been summarized, and the better solutions have been discussed.

On the Reforms of English Teaching for English Majors

The way of English teaching for English majors is a process of change.The paper aims at providing some basic ways of how to do the job efficiently and how to carry out a reform on the basis of scientific research.The paper points out that only if students can participate actively in the process of learning,combine English culture and thinking mode,use the right hemisphere and left hemisphere of the brain together,and stress the graduation thesis,can teaching and learning go more efficiently.

A Survey of the Translation Competence of the Second-Year English Majors in the Era of Machine-Translation

A survey made here aims to help both the educators and learners to improve the education of English majors.By distributing statistical questionnaires and collecting relevant data on translation knowledge,relevant examinations and competitions,this paper evaluates the translation competence of sophomores majoring in English at Northeastern University in China.Advantages together with shortcomings and suggestions are provided for teachers to position their teaching and for students to improve their translation competence.

Curriculum Design for College English Majors from the Perspective of Curriculum Innovation-Taking the Course “College English for Entrepreneurs” as an Example

Curriculum is an important concept in the field of education.Curriculum and teaching design directly affect the effect of teaching.Nowadays,the rapid development of information technology constantly promotes the innovation of educational reform.In order to adapt to the trend of innovation and entrepreneurship education in colleges and universities,the reform of college English curriculum should be based on the modern curriculum concept,through the integration of modern information technology,and achieve innovation in curriculum design and teaching methods.Based on the course construction concept of“English+Innovation and Entrepreneurship”,this paper takes the online course“College English for Entrepreneurs”as an example to explore the teaching design ideas of college English majors.This course shows the characteristics of integrating innovation and entrepreneurship education into professional education.

A Survey of English Majors'Chinese Culture Learning and Teaching Strategies in the Context of Culture Going Out

At present,there is a serious phenomenon of"Chinese cultural aphasia"in English teaching for English majors in Colleges and universities,and Chinese cultural knowledge has not received due attention in foreign language teaching.Therefore,in the context of culture going out,the author conducts a research on the current situation of Chinese culture learning and teaching strategies of English majors.Relevant research shows that solving these problems can be solved by rationally dealing with the relationship between Chinese culture and Western culture,enriching the cultural reserves of college English teachers,creating a Chinese cultural learning environment and improving students'intercultural communication skills.In addition,the Chinese cultural literacy of English teachers should be promoted to explore the teaching methods of diversified Chinese cultural resources.

An Empirical Study on the Relationships Between Smartphone Addiction and Student Engagement and Academic Performance of Chinese English Majors

In the past few years, the phenomenon of smartphone addiction has become more serious especially among university students. In order to explore whether smartphone addiction has an impact on students' learning, this study examined the relationships between smartphone addiction and student engagement and academic performance among 157 English majors by One-way ANOVA. Results suggested that there was not any significant difference in student engagement and academic performance among students of different levels of smartphone addiction. The implications for prevention strategies of smartphone addiction and further research are discussed.

The Enlightenment of Language Attrition and Forgetting to English Vocabulary Memory Strategies for College English Majors

This paper reviews the theory of language attrition,which refers to the loss or degradation of second language skills due to lack of using the second language for a certain period of time.Although our country attaches great importance to English language teaching,most of college English majors use English far less frequently than that of Chinese in real life,which makes them easily influenced by language attrition.Therefore,it is of great significance for college English majors to improve the efficiency of English vocabulary memory from the perspective of language attrition combined with Forgetting.This thesis consists of three parts.Chapter one is an analysis the concept of language attrition and Forgetting.Chapter two describes and analyzes the existing problems in current vocabulary memory among the college English majors via a questionnaire survey.The final chapter puts forward some corresponding countermeasures to help college English majors get rid of the influence of language attrition on vocabulary learning.

A Survey of Learning Motivation among Junior and Senior English Majors in Non-governmental Universities——A Case Study in Ningbo Dahongying University

Motivation is an important factor to English learning,it plays an important role.In this thesis,the instrument used in the study is a questionnaire,and this thesis was conducted on December 5th,2016 at Ningbo Dahongying University involving 182 students.Based on the questionnaire investigation,this thesis discusses the learning motivation of English major juniors and seniors in Ningbo Dahongying University from the motivation types,factors and strategies.

An Analysis of English Majors' Mobile Micro Vocabulary Learning

Though numerous English learning researches have been done for English majors,there is not fairly enough analysis ofEnglish mobile micro learning especially in vocabulary.Based on the condition,the author tries to analyze the feasibility of Englishmajors’vocabulary learning via mobile devices based on mobile micro learning mode in the way of questionnaire survey.In theend,the result of the research proves that it could be feasible to adopt mobile micro learning mode in English majors’vocabularylearning.

The Reform of the Talent Training Model for English Majors Based on OBE

Based on the reflection on the traditional teaching model of English majors,this paper points out that language teaching has long been divorced from the cultivation of cultural literacy and social needs;therefore,students’learning initiative has seriously deteriorated.On this basis,this study focuses on the“student-centered”notion and tries to integrate the four functions of language,which include“instrumental,”“cognitive,”“emotional,”and“literacy,”to establish a“four-three-two”teaching model,so as to explore an effective scheme for the teaching reform of English majors.

A Study on the Application of Politeness Principle to Classroom Teaching among College English Majors

Politeness Principle is the most important principle in language communication, which is also the key factor in language application. To achieve the successful communication, communicators not only observe Cooperation Principle, but also Politeness Principle. The traditional English classroom teaching generally follow CP in universities, however, PP gradually becomes the basic norms in the influence of ecological teaching idea. This paper attempts to study application of PP in teaching combined with video transfer materials, aiming to stimulate students' enthusiasm on learning English and improve teachers' teaching level, building up a harmonious and friendly classroom environment.

Experimental Study of The Group Cooperative Learning in Oral English Class of English Majors

College students have better English foundations for them to develop English speaking abilities.However, most of them are not good at it compared with reading and listening.Therefore, teachers need to find out some methods to develop students' ability of Group Cooperative Learning to know their errors in time and make sure that they can benefit from it so that students have the enthusiasm to improve their oral English.The thesis is mainly about all empirical study of Group Cooperative Leaning in college English oral course.The major experiment was done with some English majors at North University of China.Though many subjects supported Cooperative Learning and believed that it did effectively reduce some anxiety in students' English oral learning and enhanced their interests, the improvement of their English oral ability is far from satisfaction.This thesis employs questionnaire survey and contrastive analysis methods.This research paper means to investigate the Group Cooperative Learning of oral English learning for college students.The thesis includes five parts.The first part illustrates the purpose, significance of the research and the definition of Group Cooperative Learning. The second part shows the research background from abroad and home, and the factors of poor oral English.The third part presents the research design of the author.The fourth part states the results and discussions about the research.The conclusion part summarizes the major findings of research and also explains the limitations of the author's research and further study about Group Cooperative Learning in oral class for English Majors.

HOW TO MOTIVATE NON-ENGLISH MAJORS TO MASTER ENGLISH

This paper analyses the factors causing the lack of learning motivation of non-English majors,re-garded as one of the crucial reasons leading to the inefficiency of college English teaching in Chi-na.It also puts forward corresponding ways to motivate non-English majors to study English.

From Theoretical Grammar to Grammatical Competence:An Empirical Study

In China,English teachers usually take a three-step approach to grammar teaching,namely,the presentation—practice—production principle(3P Principle).This method consists of both“morphology”and“syntax.”It adopts the traditional mode of grammar teaching,including knowledge presentation,grammar exercises,and grammatical competence production,which will inevitably lead to time consumption and low efficiency in grammar learning.This study is about cultivating English majors'grammatical competence through the theoretical mode of grammar teaching.The research results show that the theoretical mode of grammar teaching helps cultivate learners'grammatical competence.

The Impact of Street Interviews on Chinese EFL Undergraduates’Intercultural Communicative Competence

The study adopts Byram’s Intercultural Communicative Competence(ICC)model as the theoretical framework,and structured interviews were conducted to explore the impact of street interviews on the participants’ICC.Analysis results revealed street interviews help students acquire knowledge in intercultural attitudes,intercultural knowledge,skills of discovery and interaction,and critical cultural awareness,aligning with the four components of Byram’s ICC model.Meanwhile,they have positive perceptions of street interviews.Therefore,street interviews have a positive effect on the development of participants’ICC.

Main Problems and Countermeasures in Writing English Major Papers

According to the Degree Regulations of the People’s Republic of China,our country implements a three-level Bachelor’s,Master’s,and Doctoral degree system,graduates at all levels must pass the course examination and thesis defense before they can obtain a degree certificate.It can be seen that writing academic papers is a very important skill.For English majors,academic papers need to be written in English to illustrate their academic achievements.However,judging from the current papers of English majors,there are prominent problems in thesis writing,such as:blind selection of topics,empty content,scattered research,and improper attitudes of students.This study mainly adopts the literature method,on the basis of reading academic writing-related literature and English majors’paper,the author finds out the commonalities of English major students’academic writing and puts forward effective countermeasures.This study will provide new strategy for English majors to improve their thesis writing ability,avoid making general mistakes,and to a certain extent,reduce the tutoring pressure for essay instructors,so as to improve the academic writing quality of English majors.

Key Criteria for Selecting and Adapting ESP Reading Materials--A Case Study of the Course book English for Tourism and Hospitality

The efforts in this study are made to demonstrate how an EFL teacher should develop and adapt the ESP reading materials to meet their English majors’needs and the social contexts where the learners are going to work.Based on a study of literature about material development and a case analysis of the teaching situation and students’profile,five criteria are proposed for selecting and adapting materials suitable for 3rd-year Hainan University English majors,and then an evaluation of the reading texts of the course book English for Tourism and Hospitality is made with these yardsticks.In view of the discussion and analysis,suggestions about ESP reading material development are put forth.
