Quality Characteristics of Excellent Chinese College English Teachers

From students＇ perspectives, the quality characteristics of excellent Chinese college English teachers consist of teaching skills, teacher-student relationship, teachers＇ knowledge level and teachers＇ character. It is a multidimensional construct. Of all the four main constituents, teaching skills is ranked the highest on the explanatory ability on students＇ perceptions of excellent college English teachers, then teachers＇ relationship with students, teachers＇ knowledge level and teachers＇ character.

A Study of the Cultivation of English Cultural Awareness in High School——Based on the Core Competencies and Values of English

Cultural awareness is the basis of communication,and it includes our own cultural values,beliefs and the ability to perceive the world.When students learn English and communicate with people from English culture,cultural awareness becomes very important.Meanwhile,National English Curriculum Standards for General High School puts cultural awareness in the key position of the Core Competencies and Values of English subjects.At present,the academic research and analysis on the Core Competencies and Values of English mainly focus on the language ability,learning ability and students’learning motivation.This paper intends to explore the cultivation of high school students’English cultural awareness through qualitative research and literature collation and there are 5 parts totally in this paper.The first part is the introduction,introducing the background of cultural consciousness and the significance of research.The second part is a literature review,analyzing the previous opinions both domestically and internationally.The third part is a review of cultural consciousness,summarizing the theory,historical development and main genres of cultural consciousness.The fourth part is the exploration of the cultivation of cultural awareness,including the requirements,the problems and methods of the cultivation of cultural awareness in high school English teaching.The fifth part is the conclusion,which advocates the cultivation of cultural consciousness and the development of English subject through the summary and reflection.The significance of this paper lies in the majority of teachers to create a harmonious teaching environment,facilitate the students’cultural awareness,improve high school students’cultural understanding and cultural awareness,as well as improve high school students’English discipline Core Competencies and Values so that it could benefit the development of English in our country.

Viewing English Teaching and Test Method from a Brand-new Perspective

There has been close relationship between English test method and teaching method. When we make great efforts to reform the English teaching method we should improve the English test method. In this way, we can increase the test efficiency, trustiness, English teaching quality and evaluation function, to transform the teaching from examination-oriented education into quality education.

Understanding and Explaining CLIL and CLIL in China

English, now being an international communication medium, has been promoted as the most important foreign language in school curricula in many countries. As English competence is regarded as a new kind of literacy that enables the "world citizens" to participate in the global community, various educational reforms in many countries have been implemented and new teaching approaches are introduced, aiming to provide quality English instruction for school children (Cha and Ham, 2008). Among them is a bilingual model-"content and language integrated learning (CLIL)", which serves as the umbrella term for approaches that give emphasis both on language learning and subject knowledge learning. This paper aims to start with a brief discussion of the global role of English in terms of its impact on school curricula and language policy making in EFL and ESL contexts. In the next section, further examination on sociolinguistic and cultural issues of bilingual education in EFL context will be presented and specific reference will be made to English education in China. After that, major concepts of CLIL and cognitive development theories will be drawn on to explore the benefits and potentially problematic areas in bilingual education.

QUALITY EDUCATION FACING THE NEW CENTURY AND MIDDLE-SCHOOL ENGLISH TEACHERS' TRAINING

This essay illustrates some aspects of quality-education of would-be teachers,involving psycho-logical quality,self-study ability,application of CAI(computer-aided instruction),teaching practice,and evaluation of classroom teaching.These aspects should be emphasised in teachers’ training programs.
