The Analysis of Scaffolding Instruction Application in Senior High School English Writing Teaching —— Based on Students of Zuoyun High School in Datong

This study aims to investigate the relationship between English Writing achievement and scaffolding instruction with 100 Students from Zuoyun high school as subjects in a quantitative method.Results show that:1)On the whole,high school students have good use of scaffolding in English writing.2)The application of scaffolding instruction in high school English writing teaching has a significant positive correlation with English writing performance.3)On the whole,there is a significant difference in the application of the scaffolds in English writing between high and low-score group students.

An Investigation of Avoidance of Relative Clauses in the English Writings of High Vocational College Students

This study investigates the avoidance of relative clauses by high vocational college students and also explores the differences in the avoidance of the RCs by high-level students and low-level students in their English writings. The data used in this study have been collected from English writing tasks and analyzed by Statistical Package for Social Sciences(SPSS17.0). The major findings of this study are stated as follows: 1) There are significant differences in the production of the relative clauses in their English writings by Chinese higher vocational college students and English native speakers. Avoidance of relative clauses exists in the English writings of higher vocational college students. 2) High-level Chinese higher vocational college students display less of the avoidance phenomenon in their English writings than low-level students.

A Diary Study of the Impact of Extensive Reading on English Writing

Motivated by the continued growth of research on extensive reading and positive results from a variety of studies (e.g. Bell,2001; Nash &Yuan,1992; Nation, 1997), an investigation is conducted on the impact of extensive reading on college students’ writing per-formance over a 20-week period. Data are collected from multiple sources, mainly including teacher and learners’ diaries, together with aninterview and writing tests. The results of the study show that extensive reading can enhance learners’ writing skills and promote a positiveattitude toward writing.

The Sense of Flow of L1 Audience for L2 Composition——A Pedagogical Implication from Cross-Pacific Exchange to the Teaching of English Writing

The present study focuses on the native readers’sense of flow,a construct frequently ignored in L2 writing studies.Based on the author’s analysis of the communicative data in the web-based transnational peer editing activities named Cross-Pacific Exchange,an amendment is proposed for the currently well-accepted“input-output”models;that is,fluent output by classroom L2 learners may not always be accepted by native audience.Accordingly,L2 writing teachers should encourage their students to pay attention to their L1 readers’sense of flow,so as to enhance their own reader awareness,and improve the quality of their L2 composition through interaction with their L1 audience.
