Protease treatments on wool have its inherent defect in shrink-proofing because protease will decompose wool through cell membrane complex (CMC). In order to solve this problem, mechanism of enzyme treatments on wool was adequately analyzed and possible enzyme applications were discussed. The mechanism of enzyme treatment on wool was analyzed through weight loss, strength, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), electrophoresis, sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis ( SDS- PAGE), and amino acids composition. Based on the results, a possible novel multifunetional enzyme treatment on wool to achieve shrink-resistance was proposed. In order to shorten enzyme treatment time, the rate of proteolysis of wool was investigated. Considering the specificity of proteases, wool composition, and structure of dyes, a better enzyme pretreatment before dyeing to get better dyeabflity and lower dyeing temperature was discussed. 展开更多

Inborn errors of metabolism(IEMs) are a large group of inherited disorders characterized by disruption of metabolic pathways due to deficient enzymes, cofactors, or transporters. The rapid advances in the understanding of the molecular pathophysiology of many IEMs, have led to significant progress in the development of many new treatments. The institution and continued expansion of newborn screening provide the opportunity for early treatment, leading to reduced morbidity and mortality. This review provides an overview of the diverse therapeutic approaches and recent advances in the treatment of IEMs that focus on the basic principles of reducing substrate accumulation, replacing or enhancing absent or reduced enzyme or cofactor, and supplementing product deficiency. In addition, the challenges and obstacles of current treatment modalities and future treatment perspectives are reviewed and discussed. 展开更多

One of the most important physicochemical properties of meat is its tenderness. The impact of Leek (Allium ampeloprasum ) extract and ultrasound on meat quality and molecular weight distribution of Longissimus lumborum muscles was studied.Samples have been treated with ultrasound (100 and 300 W during 10,20,and 30 min) and Leek-derived exogenous proteases (16.9 and 33.8U/g) simultaneously and separately. The combined effect of enzyme and ultrasound in 10 and 20 min increased the pH value. It was also increased the proteolytic activity of meat.Regarding meat quality, the filtering residues, cooking loss, shear force, and hardness were reduced;water-binding capacity, emulsion capacity, and emulsion stability were improved. The electrophoretic pattern of myofibrillar proteins showed the muscle fibers were severely degraded in the combined treatments. It can be concluded that this process could be used as an alternative to the chemical tenderizing agents in the meat industry. 展开更多

The biology treatment of cellulases or hemicellulases is used in this paper. The effects of cellulases and hemicellulases on surface wettability and gluing property of poplar and wheat straw were investigated. It was found that the surface contact angles of poplar and wheat straw were reduced and the surface free energies were increased after treatment by these enzymes. The gluing strengths of popular and wheat straw were enhanced with the increases of the dosage of enzymes and the time of enzymatic treatment. 展开更多

Tyrosinase(TYR) was covalently immobilized onto amino-functionalized carbon felt surface via glutaraldehyde-coupling under ultrasonic treatment for 10 min.The resulting TYR-immobilized carbon felt was used as a working electrode unit of bioelectrocatalytic flow-through detector for TYR substrates(catechol,p-chlorophenol(p-CP),p-cresol,phenol etc.).Cathodic peak currents based on the electroreduction of enzymatically produced o-quinones were detected at-50 mV vs.Ag/AgCl.Compared with previous work in which TYR was immobilized onto amino-functionalized carbon felt for 16 hr without the ultrasonic treatment,we succeeded in(1) shortening the enzyme immobilization time from 16 hr to 10 min,(2) enhancing the sensitivity of p-CP,and(3) improving the operational stability of p-CP.The ultrasonic treatment during the TYR immobilization step would lead to certain changes in the structure of the immobilized TYR and the morphology of the immobilized TYR-layer on the carbon felt surface. 展开更多
