But the kindling effect might be different at different sites. OBJECTIVE: To compare the features of animal models of complex partial epilepsy established through unilateral, bilateral and alternate-side kindling at hippocampus and successful rate of modeling among these 3 different ways. DESIGN: A randomized and controlled animal experiment SETTING: Department of Neurology, Qilu Hospital, Shandong University MATERIALS: Totally 60 healthy adult Wistar rats, weighing 200 to 300 g, of either gender, were used in this experiment. BL-410 biological functional experimental system (Taimeng Science and Technology Co. Ltd, Chengdu) and SE-7102 type electronic stimulator (Guangdian Company, Japan) were used in the experiment. METHODS: This experiment was carried out in the Experimental Animal Center of Shandong University from April to June 2004. After rats were anesthetized, electrode was implanted into the hippocampus. From the first day of measurement of afterdischarge threshold value, rats were given two-square-wave suprathreshold stimulation once per day with 400 μA intensity, 1ms wave length, 60 Hz frequency for 1 s duration. Left hippocampus was stimulated in unilateral kindling group, bilateral hippocampi were stimulated in bilateral kindling group, and left and right hippocampi were stimulated alternately every day in the alternate-side kindling group. Seizure intensity was scored: grade 0: normal, 1: wet dog-like shivering, facial spasm, such as, winking, touching the beard, rhythmic chewing and so on; 2: rhythmic nodding; 3: forelimb spasm;4: standing accompanied by bilateral forelimb spasm;5: tumbling, losing balance, four limbs spasm. Modeling was successful when seizure intensity reached grade 5. t test was used for the comparison of mean value between two samples. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Comparison of the successful rate of modeling, the times of stimulation to reach intensity of grade 5, the lasting time of seizure of grade 3 of rats in each group. RESULTS: Four rats of alternate-side kindling group dropped out due to infection-induced electrode loss, and 56 rats were involved in the result analysis. The successful rate of unilateral kindling group, bilateral kin- dling group and alternate-side kindling group was 55%(11/20),100%(16/16)and 100%(20/20), respective- ly. The stimuli to reach the grade 5 spasm were significantly more in the bilateral kindling group than in the unilateral kindling group [(30.63±3.48), (19.36±3.47)times, t=8.268, P 〈 0.01], and those were significantly fewer in the alternate-side kindling group than in the unilateral kindling group [( 10.85±1.98)times, t=-8.744, P 〈 0.01]. The duration of grade 3 spasm was significantly longer in the bilateral kindling group than in the unilateral kindling group [(9.75±2.59), (3.21 ±1.58)days,t=-8.183,P 〈 0.01], Among 20 successful rats of al- ternate-side kindling group, grade 5 spasm was found in the left hippocampi of 11 rats, but grade 3 spasm in their right hippocampi; Grade 5 spasm was found in the right hippocampi of the other 9 rats, grade 4 spasm in the left hippocampus of 1 rat and grade 3 of 8 rats. CONCLUSION : The speed of establishing epilepsy seizure model by alternate-side kindling is faster than that by unilateral kindling, while that by bilateral kindling is slower than that by unilateral kindling. The successful rate is very high to establish complex partial epilepsy with alternate-side or bilateral kindling. Epilepsy seizure established by alternate-side kindling has antagonistic effect of kindling and the seizure duration of grade 3 spasm is prolonged.展开更多

Traditional AEDs, such as carbamazepine (CBZ) and valproate (VPA), have been proven to have good therapeutic effects. However, in recent years, a variety of new AEDs have increasingly been used as first-line treatments for partial epilepsy. As the studies regarding the effectiveness of new drugs and comparisons between new AEDs and traditional AEDs are few, it is determined that these are areas in need of further research. Accordingly, this study investigated the long-term effectiveness of six AEDs used as monotherapy in patients with partial epilepsy. Methods: This is a retrospective, long-term observational study. Patients with partial epilepsy who received monotherapy with one of six AEDs, namely, CBZ, VPA, topiramate (TPM), oxcarbazepine (OXC), lamotrigine (LTG), or levetiracetam (LEV), were identified and followed up from May 2007 to October 2014, and time to first seizure after treatment, 12-month remission rate, retention rate, reasons for treatment discontinuation, and adverse effects were evaluated. Results: A total of 789 patients were enrolled. The median time of follow-up was 56.95 months. CBZ exhibited the best time to first seizure, with a median time to first seizure of 36.06 months (95% confidential interval: 30.64~4.07). CBZ exhibited the highest 12-month remission rate (85.55%), which was significantly higher than those of TPM (69.38%, P = 0.006), LTG (70.79%, P= 0.001), LEV (72.54%, P = 0.005), and VPA (73.33%, P = 0.002). CBZ, OXC, and LEV had the best retention rate, followed by LTG, TPM, and VPA. Overall, adverse effects occurred in 45.87% of patients, and the most common adverse effects were memory problems (8.09%), rashes (7.76%), abnormal hepatic function (6.24%), and drowsiness (6.24%). Conclusion: This study demonstrated that CBZ, OXC, and LEV are relatively effective in managing tbcal epilepsy as measured by time to first seizure, 12-month remission rate, and retention rate.展开更多

During the onset of partial epilepsy, the seizure evolution commonly exhibits typical timescale separation phenomenon. This timescale separation behavior can be mimicked by a paradigmatic model termed as Epileptor, which consists of coupled fast-slow neural populations via a permittivity variable. By incorporating permittivity noise into the Epileptor model, we show here that stochastic fluctuations of permittivity coupling participate in the modulation of seizure dynamics in partial epilepsy. In particular, introducing a certain level of permittivity noise can make the model produce more comparable seizure-like events that capture the temporal variability in realistic partial seizures. Furthermore, we observe that with the help of permittivity noise our stochastic Epileptor model can trigger the seizure dynamics even when it operates in the theoretical nonepileptogenic regime. These findings establish a deep mechanistic understanding on how stochastic fluctuations of permittivity coupling shape the seizure dynamics in partial epilepsy, and provide insightful biological implications.展开更多

However, the matrix characteristics of neural network are still not fully understood. If we ignore the matrix characteristics of the neural networks and just pay close attention to its connection mode,we are likely to fall into the theory of mechanical reductionism. This can lead to a problem in representing consciousness in a disadvantageous situation. It can also be a barrier to further improving the global workspace theory. Incomplete elucidation of the mechanisms of consciousness representation can also affect the assessment of the surgical outcome of partial epilepsy with conscious injury. Therefore, this paper reviews the epistemological development of neuroscience. We will initially describe the matrix characteristics of the neural system and their significance to the information processing mechanism, and further explore the role of neural matrix in identifying cases of partial epilepsy with little effect on the resection of the lesion.展开更多

The effects of nickel content, calcination and reaction temperatures, gas hourly space velocity (GHSV) and inert gas dilution of N2 on their performance of catalytic partial oxidation of methane (CPOM) were investigated. Catalytic activity test results show that the highest methane conversion (〉85%), the best selectivities to carbon monoxide (〉87%) and to hydrogen (〉95%), the excellent stability and perfect Hz/CO ratio (2.0) can be obtained over Ni/CeO2-Al2O3 with 8 wt% Ni content calcined at 700 ℃ under the reaction condition of 750 ℃, CH4/O2 ratio of 2 : 1 and gas hourly space velocity of 12000 mL.h-1 .g-1. Characterization results show that the good catalytic performance of this composite catalyst can be contributed to its large specific surface area (~108 m2.g-1), small crystallite size, easy reducibility and low coking rate.展开更多

Every effort has been made to develop the physical and mechanical properties of the materials to mimic the natural tooth substances. However, that has not yet been achieved, making it necessary to apply conservative dental treatments. Conservative treatments are procedures which minimize the amount of defective tooth structure removed while maximizing the remaining amount of intact tooth structure, and defining the margin of the restoration at the supragingival level. In a substantially destructed tooth, the direct restoration, which is the most conservative restoration, has the limitations on the retention or creation of the proper contour of the restoration. The indirectly partial coverage restoration has recently gained in popularity. This treatment preserves the tooth structure while allowing reconstruction of the destructed structure to enable correct and proper tooth functioning and also provides a satisfactory cosmetic appearance. The purpose of this paper is to review and compare the various conservative techniques of partial coverage restorations and the full coverage treatment with crowns.展开更多

The close coupling calculation of state-to-state partial cross sections for collision of Ne with HC1 is first performed by employing the fitted interaction potential. This calculation is performed at the incident energies: 40, 60, 75 and 100 meV, separately. The effects of the long-range attractive and the short-range anisotropic interactions on the inelastic state-to-state partial cross sections are discussed in detail. Two maxima are present in the rotationally inelastic partial cross sections and they originate from different mechanisms.展开更多

Conclusion: This study demonstrated that CBZ, OXC, and LEV are relatively effective in managing tbcal epilepsy as measured by time to first seizure, 12-month remission rate, and retention rate.
文摘Tuberous sclerosis complex(TSC)is a rare multisystem, autosomal dominant neurocutaneous syndrome in which epilepsy is the most common of several neurological and psychiatric manifestations.Around two thirds of patients develop drug-resistant epilepsy for whom surgical resection of epileptogenic foci is indicated when seizures remain inadequately controlled following trial of two antiseizure medications. The challenge with presurgical and surgical approaches with patients with TSC is overcoming the complexity from the number of tubers and the multiplex epileptogenic network forming the epileptogenic zone.Data suggest that seizure freedom is achieved by 55%-60%of patients, but predictive factors for success have remained elusive, which makes for unconfident selection of surgical candidates. This article presents three different cases as illustrations of the potential challenges faced when assessing the suitability of TSC patients for epilepsy surgery.

文摘Tuberous sclerosis complex(TSC)is a rare disease that involves multiple organs, including the brain;approximately 80%-90%of TSC patients exhibit TSC-associated epilepsy.Independent temporal lobe epilepsy(TLE),TSC-unrelated epilepsy,is particularly rare in patients with TSC.Here,we describe three patients with TSC with independent TLEs that were confirmed by stereo-electroencephalography(EEG),postoperative pathological findings, and seizure outcome at follow-up.The patients were retrospectively enrolled at two centers;their ictal epileptiform discharge onsets were determined using electrode contacts in the hippocampus during stereo-EEG.The three patients underwent anterior temporal lobectomies and remained seizure-free at 1-5 years after surgery.Postoperative pathological examinations confirmed hippocampal sclerosis in all three patients.Furthermore, postoperative intelligence quotient improvement was evident in one patient, while the quality of life was improved in two patients at 12 months after surgery.

文摘Partial epilepsy is characterized by recurrent seizures that arise from a localized pathological brain region. These findings establish a deep mechanistic understanding on how stochastic fluctuations of permittivity coupling shape the seizure dynamics in partial epilepsy, and provide insightful biological implications.
文摘The network characteristic of the central neural system has been widely accepted as a basic fabric form. We will initially describe the matrix characteristics of the neural system and their significance to the information processing mechanism, and further explore the role of neural matrix in identifying cases of partial epilepsy with little effect on the resection of the lesion.

文摘A series of novel Ni/CeOe-Al2O3 composite catalysts were synthesized by one-step citric acid complex method, The as-synthesized catalysts were characterized by N2 physical adsorption/desorption, X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, hydrogen temperature-programmed reduction (Hz-TPR), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and thermogravimetry analysis (TGA). Characterization results show that the good catalytic performance of this composite catalyst can be contributed to its large specific surface area (~108 m2.g-1), small crystallite size, easy reducibility and low coking rate.

文摘Cenozoic potassic-ultrapotassic igneous rocks are widespread in the southeastern Tibetan Plateau.Their petrogenesis and magmatic processes remain subject to debate in spite of numerous publications.Almost all of the Cenozoic extrusive and intrusive rocks in the Yao’an area, western Yunnan Province,SW China, are geochemically shoshonitic, collectively termed here the Yao’an Shoshonitic Complex(YSC).The YSC is located in the(south)easternmost part of the ENE-WSW-trending,~550 km-long and~250 km-wide Cenozoic magmatic zone;the latter separates the orthogonal and oblique collision belts of the India-Eurasia collision orogen.Previously published geochronological and thermochronological data revealed that the rocks of the YSC were emplaced over a short timespan of 34-32 Ma.This and our new data suggest that the primary magma of the YSC likely was formed by partial melting of ancient continental lithospheric mantle beneath the Yangtze Block. This part of the continental lithospheric mantle had likely not been modified by any oceanic subduction.Fractionation crystallization of an Mg-and Ca-bearing mineral and TiFe oxides during the magmatic evolution probably account for the variable lithologies of the YSC.

文摘On-line partial discharge(PD)detection still remains a very challenging task because of the strong electromagnetic interferences. In this paper,a new method of de-noising,using complex Daubechies wavelet(CDW)transform, has been proposed. It is a relatively recent enhancement to the real-valued wavelet transform because of tow important properties, which are nearly shift-invariant and availability of phase information. Those properties give CDW transform superiority over other real-valued wavelet transform, and then the construction algorithm of CDW is introduced in detail.Secondly, based on the real threshold algorithm of real-valued wavelet transform, complex threshold algorithm is devised. This algorithm take the different characteristics of real part and imaginary part of complex wavelet coefficients into account,it modifies the real and imaginary parts of complex wavelet coefficients respectively.Thirdly,to obtain a real de-noised signal, new combined information series is devised.By applying different combination of real part and imaginary part of de-noised complex signal,a real de-noised signal can be restored with higher peak signal-to-noise ratio(PSNR)and less distortion of original signals.Finally,On-site applications of extracting PD signals from noisy background by the optimal de-noising scheme based on CDW are illustrated. The on-site experimental results show that the optimal de-noising scheme is an effective way to suppress white noise in PD measurement.
文摘Dental materials have been continuously developing over a long period of time. The purpose of this paper is to review and compare the various conservative techniques of partial coverage restorations and the full coverage treatment with crowns.

文摘The Cenozoic Himalayan leucogranite-pegmatite belt has been a hotspot for rare metal exploration in recent years. To determine the genesis of the pegmatite in the Himalayan region and its relationship with the Greater Himalayan Crystalline Complex(GHC),the Gyirong pegmatite in southern Tibet was chosen for geochronological and geochemical studies. The dating analyses indicate that the U-Th-Pb ages of zircon, monazite, and xenotime exhibit large variations(38.6‒16.1 Ma),with the weighted average value of the four youngest points is 16.5±0.3 Ma,which indicates that the final stage of crystallization of the melt occurred in the Miocene. The age of the muscovite Ar-Ar inverse isochron is 15.2±0.4 Ma,which is slightly later than the intrusion age, showing that a cooling process associated with rapid denudation occurred at 16‒15 Ma.TheεHf(t)values of the Cenozoic anatectic zircons cluster between−12 and−9 with an average of−11.4.The Gyirong pegmatite shows high contents of Si,Al,and K,a high Al saturation index, and low contents of Na,Ca,Fe,Mn,P,Mg,and Ti.Overall, the Gyirong pegmatite is enriched in Rb,Cs,U,K,Th and Pb and depleted in Nb,Ta,Zr,Ti,Eu,Sr,and Ba.The samples show a high 87Sr/86Sr(16 Ma)ratio of ca.0.762 and a lowεNd(16 Ma)value of−16.0.The calculated average initial values of 208Pb/204Pb(16 Ma),207Pb/204Pb(16 Ma)and 206Pb/204Pb(16 Ma)of the whole rock are 39.72,15.79 and 19.56,respectively.The Sr-Nd-Pb-Hf isotopic characteristics of the Gyirong pegmatite are consistent with those of the GHC.This study concludes that the Gyirong pegmatite represents a typical crustal‒derived anatectic pegmatite with low metallogenic potential for rare metals. The Gyirong pegmatite records the long‒term metamorphism and partial melting process of the GHC,and reflects the crustal thickening caused by thrust compression at 39‒29 Ma and the crustal thinning induced by extensional decompression during 28‒15 Ma.

文摘An interaction potential of the Ne-HC1 van der Waals complex is obtained by utilizing the Huxley analytic potential function to fit the accurate interaction energy data, which have been computed at the coupled cluster singles and doubles including connected triple excitations level and with the augmented correlation consistent polarized valence quintuple zeta basis set extended with a set of 3s3p2dlflg mid-bond functions [CCSD (T)/aug-cc-pV5Z-33211]. Two maxima are present in the rotationally inelastic partial cross sections and they originate from different mechanisms.
