The score they attribute to each variety are based on local knowledge. The specific criteria they individually use to attribute a score are not well described. The objectives of this work were to: 1) identify and describe exhaustively the local criteria used by farmers to measure the agronomic performance of cowpea;2) assess the variability and statistical structure of these farmer criteria across local contexts;3) and analyze the association between these farmer criteria and the classical agronomic measurement. To achieve these objectives, an augmented block design was implemented across fifteen locations in the regions of Maradi, Dosso and Tillabéri, representing a diversity of local contexts. From a set of 36 cowpea varieties, fifteen varieties were sown per location, including five varieties (controls) common to all locations. In each location, two replicates were sown in randomized Fisher’s blocks. After agronomic measurement and participatory evaluation (scoring of varieties by farmers), a group survey (focus group) was conducted in each location to identify the criteria considered by farmers to found their discretional scoring of varieties during the participatory evaluation. The analysis of the data identified, across locations, thirteen criteria defined by farmers to characterize the agronomic performance of cowpea. Some of these criteria were different according to location. Farmers ranked the three varieties with the best performance for each agronomical trait (Top 3 varieties). A comparison of the farmer ranking with the ranking based on agronomic measurements revealed similarity and complementary between both methods. This study highlighted the importance of considering both local and scientific knowledge in local varietal evaluations.展开更多

However, reasonable drought simulations have remained a challenge, and the related performances of the current state-of-the-art Coupled Model Intercomparison Project phase 6(CMIP6) models remain unknown. Here, both the strengths and weaknesses of CMIP6 models in simulating droughts and corresponding hydrothermal conditions in drylands are assessed. While the general patterns of simulated meteorological elements in drylands resemble the observations, the annual precipitation is overestimated by ~33%(with a model spread of 2.3%–77.2%), along with an underestimation of potential evapotranspiration(PET) by ~32%(17.5%–47.2%). The water deficit condition, measured by the difference between precipitation and PET, is 50%(29.1%–71.7%) weaker than observations. The CMIP6 models show weaknesses in capturing the climate mean drought characteristics in drylands, particularly with the occurrence and duration largely underestimated in the hyperarid Afro-Asian areas. Nonetheless, the drought-associated meteorological anomalies, including reduced precipitation, warmer temperatures, higher evaporative demand, and increased water deficit conditions, are reasonably reproduced. The simulated magnitude of precipitation(water deficit) associated with dryland droughts is overestimated by 28%(24%) compared to observations. The observed increasing trends in drought fractional area, occurrence, and corresponding meteorological anomalies during 1980–2014 are reasonably reproduced. Still, the increase in drought characteristics, associated precipitation and water deficit are obviously underestimated after the late 1990s,especially for mild and moderate droughts, indicative of a weaker response of dryland drought changes to global warming in CMIP6 models. Our results suggest that it is imperative to employ bias correction approaches in drought-related studies over drylands by using CMIP6 outputs.展开更多

In contrast with related works, only the most fundamental requirements, i.e., boundedness and the local Lipschitz condition, are assumed for the allowable time delays. Moreover, we focus on the case where the reference is unknown beforehand, which renders the standard prescribed performance control designs under output constraints infeasible. To conquer these challenges, a novel robust prescribed performance control approach is put forward in this paper.Herein, a reverse tuning function is skillfully constructed and automatically generates a performance envelop for the tracking error. In addition, a unified performance analysis framework based on proof by contradiction and the barrier function is established to reveal the inherent robustness of the control system against the time delays. It turns out that the system output tracks the reference with a preassigned settling time and good accuracy, without constraint violations. A comparative simulation on a two-stage chemical reactor is carried out to illustrate the above theoretical findings.展开更多

This knowledge gap is vital for the proliferation of electric vehicles. This study underlies the relationship between CtCV and charging performance by assessing the pack's charge speed, final electric quantity, and temperature consistency. Cell variations and pack status are depicted using 2D parameter diagrams, and an m PnS configured pack model is built upon a decomposed electrode cell model.Variations in three single electric parameters, i.e., capacity(Q), electric quantity(E), and internal resistance(R), and their dual interactions, i.e., E-Q and R-Q, are analyzed carefully. The results indicate that Q variations predominantly affect the final electric quantity of the pack, while R variations impact the charge speed most. With incremental variances in cell parameters, the pack's fast-charging capability first declines linearly and then deteriorates sharply as variations intensify. This research elucidates the correlations between pack charging capabilities and cell variations, providing essential insights for optimizing cell sorting and assembly, battery management design, and charging protocol development for battery packs.展开更多
文摘The available test methods for optimal moisture content of cold recycled mixture(CRM)as well as its bulk specific gravity, and theoretical maximum relative density were analyzed in this work. Some test improvements were suggested to improve test control of the CRM road performance based on the discovered flaws.Besides, the properties of reclaimed asphalt pavement(RAP),including the content of old asphalt, penetration index, passing rate of 4.75 mm sieve, and gradation change rate after extraction, were examined. The effects of RAP characteristics on splitting tensile strength, water stability, the high-and low-temperature performance of emulsified asphalt CRM were studied. The results show that the optimum moisture content of CRM should be determined when the compaction work matches the specimen’s molding work.Among the analyzed methods of bulk specific gravity assessment, the dry-surface and CoreLok methods provide more robust and accurate results than the wax-sealing method, while the dry-surface method is the most cost-efficient.The modified theoretical maximum relative density test method is proposed, which can reduce the systematic error of the vacuum test method. The following RAP-CRM trends can be observed. The lower the content of old asphalt and the smaller the change rate of gradation, the smaller the voids and the better the water stability of CRM.The greater the penetration of old asphalt, the higher the fracture work and low-temperature splitting strength. The greater the penetration, the higher the passing rate of 4.75 mm sieve after extraction, and the worse the high-temperature performance of CRM.

文摘As an evaluation index, the natural frequency has the advantages of easy acquisition and quantitative evaluation. In this paper, the natural frequency is used to evaluate the performance of external cable reinforced bridges.Numerical examples show that compared with the natural frequencies of first-order modes, the natural frequencies of higher-order modes are more sensitive and can reflect the damage situation and external cable reinforcement effect of T-beam bridges. For damaged bridges,as the damage to the T-beam increases, the natural frequency value of the bridge gradually decreases. When the degree of local damage to the beam reaches 60%,the amplitude of natural frequency change exceeds 10%for the first time. The natural frequencies of the firstorder vibration mode and higher-order vibration mode can be selected as indexes for different degrees of the damaged T-beam bridges. For damaged bridges reinforced with external cables, the traditional natural frequency of the first-order vibration mode cannot be used as the index, which is insensitive to changes in prestress of the external cable. Some natural frequencies of higher-order vibration modes can be selected as indexes, which can reflect the reinforcement effect of externally prestressed damaged T-beam bridges, and its numerical value increases with the increase of external prestressed cable force.

文摘The fixed-setting face-milled curvilinear cylindrical gear features teeth that are arc-shaped along the longitudinal direction. Some researchers hypothesize that this arc-tooth may enhance the lubrication conditions of the gear. This study focuses on this type of gear, employing both finite element analysis(FEA)and analytical methods to determine the input parameters required for elastohydrodynamic lubrication(EHL)analysis. The effects of assembly errors, tooth surface modifications, load, and face-milling cutter radius on the lubrication performance of these gears are systematically investigated. The finite element model(FEM)of the gear pair is utilized to calculate the coordinates of contact points on the tooth surface and the corresponding contact pressures at the tooth surface nodes throughout a meshing cycle.Subsequently, the normal load on specific gear teeth is determined using a gradient-based approach.Entrainment speed,slip-to-roll ratio, and effective radius near the contact points on the tooth surface are derived through analytical methods. The data obtained from FEA serve as input parameters for EHL simulations. The lubrication performance of the curvilinear cylindrical gear is evaluated through example studies. The findings indicate that using FEA to provide input parameters for EHL simulations can reveal the occurrence of edge contact phenomena during gear meshing, allowing for a more accurate representation of the gear’s lubrication conditions. The lubrication performance of the curvilinear cylindrical gear is shown to be independent of the face-milling cutter radius but is significantly influenced by the size of the contact pattern on the tooth surface.Curvilinear gears with larger contact patterns demonstrate superior lubrication performance.

文摘Aramid fibers, due to their relatively high inter-yarn friction, high strength, high modulus, and other characteristics, have become a typical representative of flexible anti-ballistic materials in modern warfare.Current research on the anti-penetration of aramid fabrics mostly focuses unilaterally on the structure and performance of aramid fabrics or the shape and size of projectiles, with fewer studies on the coupled effect of both on ballistic performance. This study analyzes how the coupling relationship(or size effect)between the projectile and fiber bundle dimensions affects the fabric ballistic performance from a mesoscopic scale perspective.Taking plain weave aramid fabric as the research object, considering different diameter projectiles, through a large number of ballistic impact tests and numerical simulations, parameters such as ballistic limit velocity, average energy absorption of fabric, and specific energy absorption ratio(average energy absorption of fabric divided by projectile cross-sectional area)are obtained for ballistic performance analysis. The influence law of projectile size on the ballistic performance of high-performance fabrics is as follows:The relative range of fitted ballistic limit velocity at different target positions gradually decreases and then stabilizes as the projectile diameter increases, indicating that the fabric structure effect gradually disappears at a projectile diameter of 12 mm;The average ballistic limit velocity at three impact positions,P1,P2,and P3,provides the corresponding ballistic limit velocity for 1000D aramid fabric, which increases with projectile diameter but the rate of increase slows down at an inflection point, which in this study occurs where the fabric structure effect nearly disappears at a projectile diameter of 12 mm;The energy absorption ratio increases and then decreases as the projectile diameter increases from 4 mm to 20 mm,reaching a peak at the diameter of 12 mm due to the gradual disappearance of the fabric structural effect. The projectile diameter of 12 mm corresponds to the coupling size of 11.159,which provides a size design reference for the macroscopic-based continuum models of aramid plain weave fabrics.

文摘The behavior of single-phase flow and conjugate heat transfer in micro-channel heat sinks(MCHS)subjected to auniform heat flux is investigated by means of numerical simulations.Various geometrical configurations areexamined, particularly, the combinations of rectangular solid and perforated blocks, used to create a disturbancein the flow. The analysis focuses on several key aspects and related metrics, including the temperature distribution, the mean Fanning friction factor, the pressure drop, the Nusselt number, and the overall heat transfer coefficientacross a range of Reynolds numbers(80–870).It is shown that the introduction of such blocks significantlyenhances the heat transfer performances of the MCHS compared to the straight-through flow channel.Specifically,a case is found where the Nusselt number increases by 2.3 times relative to the reference case. The integrationof perforated blocks facilitates the generation of vorticity within the channel, promoting the mixing of coldand hot fluids.Notably,MCHS incorporating perforated rectangular blocks exhibit more pronounced heat transferbenefits at Reynolds numbers smaller than 400.

文摘This study investigates the bond performance at the interfacial region shared by Ultra-High Performance Concrete(UHPC)and steel tubes through push-out tests. This study examines how changes in steel fiber volumetric ratio and thickness of steel tube influence the bond strength characteristics. The results show that as the enhancement of the steel tube wall thickness, the ultimate bond strength at the interface improves significantly, whereas the initial bond strength exhibits only slight variations. The influence of steel fiber volumetric ratio presents a nonlinear trend, with initial bond strength decreasing at low fiber content and increasing significantly as fiber content rises.Additionally, finite element(FE)simulations were applied to replicate the experimental conditions, and the outcomes showed strong correlation with the experimental data, confirming the exactitude of the FE model in predicting the bond behavior at the UHPC-Steel interface. These findings provide valuable insights for optimizing the design of UHPC-Filled steel tubes in high-performance structure.
文摘When contributing to participatory research, farmers usually appreciate the performance of cowpea varieties using qualitative scores. This study highlighted the importance of considering both local and scientific knowledge in local varietal evaluations.

文摘With the improvement of equipment reliability, human factors have become the most uncertain part in the system. The standardized Plant Analysis of Risk-Human Reliability Analysis(SPAR-H)method is a reliable method in the field of human reliability analysis(HRA)to evaluate human reliability and assess risk in large complex systems. However, the classical SPAR-H method does not consider the dependencies among performance shaping factors(PSFs),whichmay cause overestimation or underestimation of the risk of the actual situation. To address this issue, this paper proposes a new method to deal with the dependencies among PSFs in SPAR-H based on the Pearson correlation coefficient.First, the dependence between every two PSFs is measured by the Pearson correlation coefficient.Second, the weights of the PSFs are obtained by considering the total dependence degree. Finally,PSFs’multipliers are modified based on the weights of corresponding PSFs,and then used in the calculating of human error probability(HEP).A case study is used to illustrate the procedure and effectiveness of the proposed method.

文摘Light levels determine regeneration in stands and a key concern is how to regulate the light environment of different stand types to the requirements of the understory. In this study,we selected three stands typical in south China(a Cryptomeria japonica plantation,a Quercus acutissima plantation, and a mixed stand of both)and three thinning intensities to determine the best understory light environ-ment for 3-year-old Phoebe bournei seedlings. The canopy structure, understory light environment, and photosynthe-sis and growth indicators were assessed following thin-ning.Thinning improved canopy structure and understory light availability of each stand;species composition was the reason for differences in the understory light environ-ment.Under the same thinning intensity, the mixed stand had the greatest light radiation and most balanced spectral composition.P.bournei photosynthesis and growth were closely related to the light environment;all three stands required heavy thinning to create an effective and sustained understory light environment. In a suitable understory light environment, the efficiency of light interception, absorption, and use by seedlings was enhanced, resulting in a higher carbon assimilation the main limiting factor was stomatal conductance. As a shade-avoidance signal,red/far-red radia-tion is a critical factor driving changes in photosynthesis and growth of P.bournei seedlings, and a reduction increased light absorption and use capacity and height:diameter ratios. The growth advantage transformed from diameter to height, enabling seedlings to access more light. Our findings suggest that the regeneration of shade-tolerant species such as P.bournei could be enhanced if a targeted approach to thinning based on stand type was adopted.

文摘Both the attribution of historical change and future projections of droughts rely heavily on climate modeling. Our results suggest that it is imperative to employ bias correction approaches in drought-related studies over drylands by using CMIP6 outputs.

文摘The problem of prescribed performance tracking control for unknown time-delay nonlinear systems subject to output constraints is dealt with in this paper. A comparative simulation on a two-stage chemical reactor is carried out to illustrate the above theoretical findings.

文摘Solid solution-strengthened copper alloys have the advantages of a simple composition and manufacturing process, high mechanical and electrical comprehensive performances, and low cost;thus, they are widely used in high-speed rail contact wires, electronic component connectors, and other devices.Overcoming the contradiction between low alloying and high performance is an important challenge in the development of solid solution-strengthened copper alloys.Taking the typical solid solution-strengthened alloy Cu-4Zn-1Sn as the research object,we proposed using the element In to replace Zn and Sn to achieve low alloying in this work. Two new alloys,Cu-1.5Zn-1Sn-0.4In and Cu-1.5Zn-0.9Sn-0.6In,were designed and prepared. The total weight percentage content of alloying elements decreased by 43%and 41%,respectively,while the product of ultimate tensile strength(UTS)and electrical conductivity(EC)of the annealed state increased by 14%and 15%.After cold rolling with a 90%reduction,the UTS of the two new alloys reached 576 and 627MPa,respectively,the EC was 44.9%IACS and 42.0%IACS,and the product of UTS and EC(UTS×EC)was 97%and 99%higher than that of the annealed state alloy. The dislocations proliferated greatly in cold-rolled alloys, and the strengthening effects of dislocations reached 332 and 356 MPa,respectively, which is the main reason for the considerable improvement in mechanical properties.

文摘The hydrogen absorption/desorption kinetic properties of MgH_(2)can be effectively enhanced by doping specific catalysts. In this work,MOFs-derived NiCu@C nanoparticles(~15 nm)with regular core-shell structure were successfully prepared and introduced into MgH_(2)(denoted as MgH_(2)-NiCu@C).The onset and peak temperatures of hydrogen desorption of MgH_(2)-11 wt.%NiCu@C are 175.0℃and282.2℃,respectively.The apparent activation energy of dehydrogenated reaction is 77.2±4.5 kJ/mol for MgH_(2)-11 wt.%NiCu@C,which is lower than half of that of the as-milled MgH_(2).Moreover,MgH_(2)-11 wt.%NiCu@C displays great cyclic stability. The strengthening"hydrogen pumping"effect of reversible solid solutions Mg_(2)Ni(Cu)/Mg_(2)Ni(Cu)H_(4)is proposed to explain the remarkable improvement in hydrogen absorption/desorption kinetic properties of MgH_(2).This work offers a novel perspective for the design of bimetallic nanoparticles and beyond for application in hydrogen storage and other energy related fields.

文摘In current practice of bolt reaming and anchoring of roadways in soft coal and rock mass, resin cartridges bend easily under the strong pushing and stirring of bolts, and the resin accumulates in the bolt-reamed area and does not participate in the stirring. As a result, bolts encounter high drilling resistance and cannot reach the bottom of drillholes. The effective anchorage length is far less than the actual anchorage length.Bolts are not centered, and the shear is misaligned at the joint surface in the reaming area, which leads to cracking of the whole anchoring solid and large shear deformation of bolts. This study systematically analyzes the characteristics of roadway bolt reaming and anchoring. The influences of resin stirring force, bolt pull-out force, and reamingeanchoring solid strength on reamingeanchoring performance were analyzed theoretically. The main purpose is to develop a device that enhances reaming and anchoring. The mechanism through which the device strengthens the reamingeanchoring solid was analyzed theoretically.Numerical simulation and experiments were carried out to verify the improved performance of the small-pore reaming and anchoring using the proposed technology. The results showed that the stirring migration rate of the resin cartridge is greatly improved by adding the device to bolts. The reaction rate of the anchoring mixture, stirring pressure,pull-out force of the reaming and anchoring system, bolt concentricity, and shear and compressive strengths of the anchoring solid are also enhanced in the reaming area. This ensures that the resin cartridge in the reaming area is completely stirred, which greatly improves the shear resistance of the reamingeanchoring solid.Meanwhile, the drilling performance, torsional force, and stirring efficiency of bolts are maximized and prevail over those of conventional bolts.

文摘Currently, more than ten ultrahigh arch dams have been constructed or are being constructed in China.Safety control is essential to long-term operation of these dams. This study employed the flexibility coefficient and plastic complementary energy norm to assess the structural safety of arch dams.A comprehensive analysis was conducted, focusing on differences among conventional methods in characterizing the structural behavior of the Xiaowan arch dam in China.Subsequently, the spatiotemporal characteristics of the measured performance of the Xiaowan dam were explored, including periodicity, convergence, and time-effect characteristics. These findings revealed the governing mechanism of main factors.Furthermore,a heterogeneous spatial panel vector model was developed, considering both common factors and specific factors affecting the safety and performance of arch dams. This model aims to comprehensively illustrate spatial heterogeneity between the entire structure and local regions, introducing a specific effect quantity to characterize local deformation differences.Ultimately, the proposed model was applied to the Xiaowan arch dam, accurately quantifying the spatiotemporal heterogeneity of dam performance.Additionally, the spatiotemporal distri-bution characteristics of environmental load effects on different parts of the dam were reasonably interpreted.Validation of the model prediction enhances its credibility, leading to the formulation of health diagnosis criteria for future long-term operation of the Xiaowan dam.The findings not only enhance the predictive ability and timely control of ultrahigh arch dams'performance but also provide a crucial basis for assessing the effectiveness of engineering treatment measures.
文摘The performance characteristics, particularly the starting performance of direct line-fed induction motors, which are mainly influenced by the design of the rotor, are crucial considerations for end-users.It is quite a challenging issue for motor manufacturers to enhance the starting performance of existing mass-produced motors with minimal modifications and expenses. In this paper,a simple and cost-effective method to improve the starting performance of a commercial squirrel-cage induction motor(SCIM)is proposed. The influence of geometric parameters of the end-ring on the performance characteristics, including starting(locked rotor)torque,pull-up and break down torque, starting current, rotor electric parameters, current density, power losses, and efficiency have been comprehensively investigated. It has been revealed that among the other end-ring design parameters, the ring thickness has a significant effect on the performance characteristics. An optimal end-ring thickness is determined, and its performance characteristics have been compared to those of its initial counterpart.Numeric and parametric analyses have been conducted using a 2D time-stepping finite element method(FEM).The FEM results were validated using experimental measurements obtained from an 11 kW SCIM prototype.

文摘Space metallurgy is an interdisciplinary field that combines planetary space science and metallurgical engineering. It involves systematic and theoretical engineering technology for utilizing planetary resources in situ. However, space metallurgy on the Moon is challenging because the lunar surface has experienced space weathering due to the lack of atmosphere and magnetic field, making the mi-crostructure of lunar soil differ from that of minerals on the Earth. In this study, scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy analyses were performed on Chang’e-5 powder lunar soil samples. The microstructural characteristics of the lunar soil may drastically change its metallurgical performance. The main special structure of lunar soil minerals include the nanophase iron formed by the impact of micrometeorites, the amorphous layer caused by solar wind injection, and radiation tracks modified by high-energy particle rays inside mineral crystals. The nanophase iron presents a wide distribution, which may have a great impact on the electromagnetic prop-erties of lunar soil.Hydrogen ions injected by solar wind may promote the hydrogen reduction process. The widely distributed amorph-ous layer and impact glass can promote the melting and diffusion process of lunar soil. Therefore, although high-energy events on the lun-ar surface transform the lunar soil, they also increase the chemical activity of the lunar soil. This is a property that earth samples and tradi-tional simulated lunar soil lack. The application of space metallurgy requires comprehensive consideration of the unique physical and chemical properties of lunar soil.

文摘Cell-to-cell variations(CtCV) compromise the electrochemical performance of battery packs, yet the evolutional mechanism and quantitative impacts of CtCV on the pack's fast-charging performance remain unexplored. This research elucidates the correlations between pack charging capabilities and cell variations, providing essential insights for optimizing cell sorting and assembly, battery management design, and charging protocol development for battery packs.
