The structural sizes of the incentive cavities are determined based on the waveguide transmission line theory. Using IE3D software, electromagnetic simulations are respectively carried out in four different situations, including the distances between the magnetron probes (antennas) and a short-circuit board, different horn electric lengths and aperture sizes, different dielectric properties of the asphalt mixture, and the distances between the asphalt surface and the mouth cavity. The results show that, when the distance between the magnetron probe and the short-circuit board is 32.5 ram, it is the best installation site; reduction of aerial length is the main factor in improving the heating uniformity. When the aggregate is limestone, the best heating effect can be produced. Maximum radiation efficiency can be realized by adjusting the space between the heater radiation port and the asphalt pavement. The experimental results of asphalt mixture heating in four different situations have a substantial agreement with the simulation results, which confirms that the developed microwave heater can achieve better impedance matching, thus improving the quality and efficiency of heating regeneration.展开更多

For this reason, we have used an array of ADCP and a pressure sensor to measure wave parameters and pressure inside and outside of the surf zone during the dry and rainy period in the beaches of Galerazamba and Manzanillo del Mar (both dissipative and eroded beaches) located in the Colombian Caribbean coast. Based on these measurements, we have carried out a spectral analysis in order to identify the frequency components that characterize the wave and its energy; thus, we identified the characteristic frequencies of iufragravity waves to finally filter the infragravity signal on each beach in different seasonal periods. Among the results of the Welch spectrum applied to surface elevation time series, we found that, the frequencies' energy of the sea-swell band decreases due to bottom friction and wave breaking as the wave approaches the shore, while the frequencies' energy of the infragravity band increases significantly. In addition, for the wavelet analysis, we could observe how the energy of the infragravity band, especially the lowest frequencies gain energy as the waves approaches the coast. Furthermore, based on the infragravity wave obtained from the extreme wave event registered during the field campaign we can conclude that the contribution of this signal is important in the erosion problems presented in the beaches of Galerazamba and Manzanillo del Mar. Finally, these results show the need to realize other studies that allow us to understand deeply, the role of infragravity waves on the morphological changes that occurs in these beaches.展开更多

The hydrogen is produced by an alkaline electrolyser fed by a 5.8 kWp grid connected PV (photovoltaic) plant. The acceptance test conducted with hydrogen percentages ranging from 0%-10% has been carried out at partial load: 45 kW^l instead of the full power of 60 kWe~. In order to evaluate the CHP energy consumption and environmental performance (NOx and CO), the analysis was conducted for 240 h, using a portable flue gas analyser and two mass flow meters for hydrogen and methane. Without engine parameters optimization--relative equivalence ratio (2) and spark advance--increasing hydrogen addition rate, a slight enhancement in electrical efficiency occurs. Furthermore, due to the engine control system and lower blends LHV (lower heating value), the methane consumption decreases disproportionately to the hydrogen amount in the mixture. Finally, referring to standard operating condition, the environmental results show that using enrichment of 10%, running the engine with 18 degrees spark advance and 2 of 1.4, CO and NOx emissions are reduced by 6.3% and 27% respectively.展开更多

The subthreshold swing of such SB-MOSFETs reaches 69mV/dec. Em- phasis is placed on the capacitance-voltage analysis of p-type SB-MOSFETs. According to the measurements of gate-to-source capacitance Cgs with respect to Vgs at various Vds, we find that a maximum occurs at the accumulation regime due to the most imbalanced charge distribution along the channel. At each Cgs peak, the difference between Vgs and Vds is equal to the Schottky barrier height (SBH) for NiSi2 on highly doped silicon, which indicates that the critical condition of channel pinching off is related with SBH for source/drain on chan- nel. The SBH for NiSi2 on highly doped silicon can affect the pinch-off voltage and the saturation current of SB-MOSFETs.展开更多

Particularly, the influence of the building on the micro wind turbine performance has been studied and the numerical results (wind velocity fields and turbulence intensity above the building) have been compared with the experimental data collected over a period of three years. The results have shown that horizontal-axis wind turbines suffer from wake effect due to buildings, therefore, best sites in urban area have to be identified by a careful fluid dynamic analysis aimed at evaluating all causes that can reduce significantly the performance of the generator: in fact, building should allow to exploit increased wind intensity, but often this advantage is voided by turbulence phenomena, as in the case under investigation where the measured aerogenerator efficiency is lower than the nominal performance curve. Then, the best site can be found by crossing the contours of wind velocity with the turbulence intensity fields: in this way it is possible to localize an area (best location) where the aerogenerator can give maximum performance.展开更多

In this paper, the influence of ultrasonic cavitation on coal and the effects of the sonic waves on crack generation, propagation, connection, as well as the effect of cracks on the coal permeability, are studied. The experimental results show that cracks in coal are generated even connected rapidly after ultrasonic cavitation. Under the effect of ultrasonic cavitation, the permeability increases between 30% and 60%, and the number of cracks in coal also significantly increased. Numerical experiments show that the effective sound pressure is beneficial to fracture propagation and connection, and it is closely related to the permeability. Moreover, the numerical simulations and physical experiments provide a guide for the coal permeability improvement.展开更多

The vibrational characteristics of fruits and vegetables are governed by their elastic modulus (firmness), mass, and geometry. Therefore, it is possible to evaluate firmness of fruits and vegetables based on their vibrational characteristics. Analysis of the vibration responses of a fruit is suggested for measuring elastic properties (Firmness) non-destructively. The impulse response method is often used to measure firmness of fruits. The fruit was excited using three types of balls (wooden, steel and rubber) and the vibration is detected by an accelerometer. The Instron device was used to measure the static elastic modulus of the inner, middle and outer portions of melon flesh. Finite element (FE) technique was used to determine the optimum excitation location of the chosen measurement sensor and to analyze the mode shape fruits. Four types of mode shapes (torsional or flexural mode shape, first-type, second-type spherical mode and breathing mode shape) were found. Finite element simulation results agreed well with experimental results. Correlation between the firmness and resonant frequency (r2=0.91) and between the resonant frequency and stiffness factor (r2=0.74) existed. The optimum location and suitable direction for excitation and response measurement on the fruit were suggested.展开更多

At each Cgs peak, the difference between Vgs and Vds is equal to the Schottky barrier height (SBH) for NiSi2 on highly doped silicon, which indicates that the critical condition of channel pinching off is related with SBH for source/drain on chan- nel. The SBH for NiSi2 on highly doped silicon can affect the pinch-off voltage and the saturation current of SB-MOSFETs.

文摘Impact pile driving is an interesting technique for the construction of deep foundations from a practical and economical point of view. However, the generalization of this technique can be restricted due to the excessive vibration levels that can be generated, which can be especially problematic in residential areas. However, different mitigation measures can be applied to prevent excessive vibration levels inside buildings located near construction sites. To compare its efficiency through a numerical prediction tool, two experimental test sites are first presented and characterized. From the results obtained,it was found that the construction of an open trench near the impact source can be used as an efficient mitigation measure to reduce the maximum vibration levels evaluated in this study.
文摘In this work, the efficiency ofa 1 kWp horizontal-axis wind turbine which is installed on the roof of the engineering building at the University of Salento has been evaluated, by means of CFD (computational fluid dynamic) and experimental data. Then, the best site can be found by crossing the contours of wind velocity with the turbulence intensity fields: in this way it is possible to localize an area (best location) where the aerogenerator can give maximum performance.
文摘Despite the non-contact underwater explosion phenomena(UNDEX)have been studied for decades and several numerical methods have been proposed in literature, its effects on military structures, especially composite ones, are even nowadays matter of research. In early design phases,it is not always possible to verify the shock resistance of hull structures modelling the whole phenomenon,in which fluid, gas and solid properties must be properly set in a fully coupled fluid-structure interaction(FSI)numerical model. These ones are extremely complex to set, computationally demanding and certainly not suitable for everyday design practice. In this paper,a simplified finite element(FE)model, easy to use in an early design phase,is proposed. Both, the structure and the fluid are simulated. In this approximation, the fluid behaviour is simplified, using special finite elements, available in a commercial software environment. This choice reduces the computational time and numerical efforts avoiding the problem of combining computational fluid dynamics(CFD)and FE domains and equations in a fully coupled fluid-structure interaction model.A typical parallel body block of a minesweeper is modelled, using two-dimensional multi-layered shell elements to properly account for the composite materials behaviour. For the fluid instead, three dimensional volumetric elements, directly coupled to the structural elements, are placed. In addition, the same calculation is performed, modelling separately fluid in the CFD environment and structures in the finite element one. Thus, realizing a fully coupled fluid-structure interaction model. The results obtained by applying both numerical models are compared with the structural response measured on board of a composite ship during a full-scale shock test. The simplified proposed procedure provides results in satisfactory agreement with experiments, allowing the validation of the model.Approximations are discussed and differences with the real phenomenon and fully coupled CFD+FE method are shown, providing a better understanding of the phenomena.Eventually, the modelling strategy has been considered a valuable and cost-effective tool for the concept and preliminary design of composite structures subject to underwater explosions.

文摘The hydrodynamics and mass transfer characteristics of a lab-scale jet bubbling reactor(JBR)including the gas holdup, volumetric mass transfer coefficient and specific interfacial area were assessed experimentally investigating the influence of temperature,pH and superficial gas velocity. The reactor diameter and height were 11 and 30 cm,respectively. It was equipped with a single sparger, operating at atmospheric pressure,20 and 40℃,and two pH values of 3 and 6.The height of the liquid was 23 cm,while the superficial gas velocity changed within 0.010-0.040 m·s^(-1)range.Experiments were conducted with pure oxygen as the gas phase and saturated lime solution as the liquid phase. The liquid-side volumetric mass transfer coefficient was determined under unsteady-state oxygen absorption in a saturated lime solution. The gas holdup was calculated based on the liquid height change, while the specific interfacial area was obtained by a physical method based on the bubble size distribution(BSD)in different superficial gas velocities. The results indicated that at the same temperature but different pH,the gas holdup variation was negligible, while the liquid-side volumetric mass transfer coefficient at the pH value of 6 was higher than that at the pH=3.At a constant pH but different temperatures, the gas holdup and the liquid-side volumetric mass transfer coefficients at 40℃were higher than that of the same at 20℃.A reasonable and appropriate estimation of the liquid-side volumetric mass transfer coefficient(kla)in a pilot-scale JBR was provided which can be applied to the design and scale-up of JBRs.

文摘Ultrasonic vibrations in coal lead to cavitation bubble oscillation, growth, shrinkage, and collapse, and the strong vibration of cavitation bubbles not only makes coal pores break and cracks propagate, but plays an important role in enhancing the permeability of coal. Moreover, the numerical simulations and physical experiments provide a guide for the coal permeability improvement.

文摘The “Huang gua” melons were measured for their physical properties including firmness and static elastic modulus. The optimum location and suitable direction for excitation and response measurement on the fruit were suggested.
