Multidatabase systems are designed to achieve schema integration and data interoperation among distributed and heterogeneous database systems. But data model heterogeneity and schema heterogeneity make this a challenging task. A multidatabase common data model is firstly introduced based on XML, named XML-based Integration Data Model (XIDM), which is suitable for integrating different types of schemas. Then an approach of schema mappings based on XIDM in multidatabase systems has been presented. The mappings include global mappings, dealing with horizontal and vertical partitioning between global schemas and export schemas, and local mappings, processing the transformation between export schemas and local schemas. Finally, the illustration and implementation of schema mappings in a multidatabase prototype - Panorama system are also discussed. The implementation results demonstrate that the XIDM is an efficient model for managing multiple heterogeneous data sources and the approaches of schema mapping based on XIDM behave very well when integrating relational, object-oriented database systems and other file systems. 展开更多

Efficient real time data exchange over the Internet plays a crucial role in the successful application of web-based systems. In this paper, a data transfer mechanism over the Internet is proposed for real time web based applications. The mechanism incorporates the eXtensible Markup Language (XML) and Hierarchical Data Format (HDF) to provide a flexible and efficient data format. Heterogeneous transfer data is classified into light and heavy data, which are stored using XML and HDF respectively; the HDF data format is then mapped to Java Document Object Model (JDOM) objects in XML in the Java environment. These JDOM data objects are sent across computer networks with the support of the Java Remote Method Invocation (RMI) data transfer infrastructure. Client's defined data priority levels are implemented in RMI, which guides a server to transfer data objects at different priorities. A remote monitoring system for an industrial reactor process simulator is used as a case study to illustrate the proposed data transfer mechanism. 展开更多

Based on the analysis of the process, product de... Process integration is the important aspect of product development process. The recent researches focus on project management, workflow management and process modeling. Based on the analysis of the process, product development process is divided into three levels according to different grains from macroscopy to microcosm. Our research concentrate on the workflow and the free-grained design process. According to the need of representing the data and the relationships among them for process integration, context model is introduced, and its characters are analyzed. The tree-like structure of inheritance among context model's classes is illustrated; The relationships of reference among them are also explained. Then, extensible markup language (XML) file is used to depict these classes. A four-tier framework of process integration has been established, in which model-view-controller pattern is designed to realize the separation between context model and its various views. The integration of applications is applied by the encapsulation of enterprise's business logic as distributed services. The prototype system for the design of air filter is applied in an institute. 展开更多

Much effort has been spent in this area, and many kinds of approaches have been proposed. Based on the correlative materials, this paper presents extensible markup language (XML) based strategy for several important problems of data processing in network supported collaborative design, such as the representation of standard for the exchange of product model data (STEP) with XML in the product information expression and the management of XML documents using relational database. The paper gives a detailed exposition on how to clarify the mapping between XML structure and the relationship database structure and how XML-QL queries can be translated into structured query language (SQL) queries. Most project information is recorded in digital files and managed in a decentralized way. Current document management tools do not consider the semantic relationships between files and then cannot discover files based on their content or ensure information consistency across various information repositories. This paper presents a semantic-discovery method for accessing project information across repositories. By adopting semantic web technologies, including extensible markup language (XML), ontology, and logic rules, the semantic-discovery tool can access project files by their properties and relations. The method has been applied to searching for files using documents from a real project. The results show that the semantic content of a file can be used to ensure that only related files are retrieved. 展开更多

Despite the various attractive features that Cloud has to offer, the rate of Cloud migration is rather slow, pri- marily due to the serious security and privacy issues that exist in the paradigm. One of the main problems in this regard is that of authorization in the Cloud environment, which is the focus of our research. In this paper, we present a systematic analysis of the existing authorization solutions in Cloud and evaluate their effectiveness against well-established industrial standards that conform to the unique access control require- ments in the domain. Our analysis can benefit organizations by helping them decide the best authorization technique for deployment in Cloud; a case study along with simulation re- sults is also presented to illustrate the procedure of using our qualitative analysis for the selection of an appropriate tech- nique, as per Cloud consumer requirements. From the results of this evaluation, we derive the general shortcomings of the extant access control techniques that are keeping them from providing successful authorization and, therefore, widely adopted by the Cloud community. To that end, we enumer- ate the features an ideal access control mechanisms for the Cloud should have, and combine them to suggest the ultimate solution to this major security challenge - access control as a service (ACaaS) for the software as a service (SaaS) layer. We conclude that a meticulous research is needed to incorpo- rate the identified authorization features into a generic ACaaS framework that should be adequate for providing high level of extensibility and security by integrating multiple accesscontrol models. 展开更多

This paper presents an effective keyword search method for data-centric extensive markup language (XML) documents. The method divides an XML document into compact connected integral subtrees, called self-integral trees (SI-Trees), to capture the structural information in the XML document. The SI-Trees are generated based on a schema guide. Meaningful self-integral trees (MSI-Trees) are identified, which contain all or some of the input keywords for the keyword search in the XML documents. Indexing is used to accelerate the retrieval of MSI-Trees related to the input keywords. The MSI-Trees are ranked to identify the top-k results with the highest ranks. Extensive tests demonstrate that this method costs 10-100 ms to answer a keyword query, and outperforms existing approaches by 1-2 orders of magnitude. 展开更多

Based on trust measurement, a new cross-domain access control model is proposed to improve the security performance of the cross-domain access control processes. This model integrates the trust management and trusted platform measurement, defines several concepts (user trust degree, platform configuration integrity and intra/inter-domain trust degree) and calculates them with users' uniform identity authentication and historical access behavior analysis. Then this model expands the extensible access control markup language (XACML) model by adding inside trust manager point (ITMP) and outside trust manager point (OTMP), and describes the architectures and workflows of ITMP and OTMP in details. The experimental results show that this model can achieve more fine-grained access control, implement dynamic authorization in a simple way, and improve the security degrees of the cross-domain access control. 展开更多
