The SDG-HAZOP(Signed Directed Graph,Hazard and Operability Analysis) is a qualitative safety assessment method,which is comprehensive,systematic and complete.However the result is tedious and large.Fault tree analysis(FTA) is a logical and diagrammatic method,which is proved to be a useful quantitative analysis tool to evaluate the safety and reliability of complex systems.So a FTA based on SDG-HAZOP quantitative method was proposed in this paper.Firstly,the SDG-HAZOP and the FTA were established on the background of polypropylene production devices in the Sinopec Wuhan Branch.Secondly,the probability of top event was calculated by reliable data from the probability of basic events.Finally,the targeted measures were proposed to prevent fatal potential dangerous situations by probability calculation. 展开更多

In consideration of the uncertainty of basic events failure rate and lack of probability statistical information in fault tree analysis( FTA) of excavator variable-frequency speed control system, the interval theory was employed and combined with conventional FTA method. The basic events failure probabilities were described by interval numbers,and the interval operators of logical gates in FTA were deduced based on interval theory. Finally,the reliability assessment of excavator variable-frequency speed control system was done by interval FTA method. The result shows that the interval FTA method is suitable for the complex system with insufficient failure data. 展开更多

CNC machine tool is a large complex system which contains both mechanical and electrical components.As one of these components,the spindle is crucial for the performance of CNC machine tool.To improve the quality of CNC machine,the reliability of spindle was evaluated in this paper using a fault tree analysis(FTA)method.The FTA method is a set of calculation methods based on Boolean algebra.However,it is difficult to analyze a large and complex fault tree with inaccurate results and low efficiency as well as the complexity of time and space.Both of them will result in the so-called "combinatorial explosion".To overcome this problem,the analysis method based on binary decision diagram(BDD)was introduced in our works,and a sorting method about bottom events was also recommended which can reduce the size of the BDD effectively. 展开更多

Evaluating the reliability of smart grids was of great importance and significance. A revised fault tree model was proposed to distinguish and separate grid-connected operation mode and islanded operation mode of smart grids,focusing on the perspective of the consumers. A hierarchical Monte Carlo simulation method for reliability evaluation was also proposed based on the proposed fault tree model. A case of reliability evaluation for the future renewable electric energy delivery and management( FREEDM) system was carried out and analyzed. Allocation of fleet's spare parts is rarely studied due to its complexity. However, this task is extremely important because the warship's service level highly relies on the maintenance logistics' level. In this study, the readiness ratio is proposed as a critical index in measuring the system's reliability. A well-established mathematical model adopting the optimization method of spare part allocation is also introduced. The objective is to minimize the number of each spare part while satisfying the fleet's system reliability. The fault tree analysis(FTA) is applied to analyze the system's failure logic and stratify the units on ship. As a result, the strategy of spare part sharing can be introduced in detail. The solution algorithm is developed, and the simulation experiments to obtain the key parameters are conducted. The proposed model and algorithm are applied to an actual fleet of two warships, and results show that the method above is feasible and can be directly applied into practice. 展开更多

This paper investigates a new operation strategy for photovoltaic (PV) systems, which improves the overall reliability of the system as a result of the improvement in the reliability of the critical components. First, a mathematical model is proposed using the fault tree analysis (FTA) to estimate the reliability of the PV systems in order to find the suitable maintenance strategies. The implementations demonstrate that it is essential to employ smart maintenance plans and monitor the identified most critical components of PV systems. Then, an innovative analytical method based on the Markov process is presented to model smart operation plans in PV systems. The impact of smart operation strategy on the PV systems is then evaluated. The objective of this paper is to develop plans for improving the reliability of PV systems. Operational experience has shown that some components in nuclear power plants are so important that their failures, which would be a single failure, may cause the entire plant to shutdown. Such shutdowns have often occurred in the past in commercial nuclear power plants. Nuclear power plant authorities try to avoid such unplanned plant shutdowns because of the large economic loss. Unfortunately, it is difficult to identify all the important components from the numerous components in each complex nuclear power plant system. FMEA and FTA methods, which are often applied to probabilistic risk assessments, are used in this paper to identify the key components that may cause unplanned reactor trips. As an example, the 48V DC power supply system in a typical Chinese nuclear power plant, which is a major cause of many unplanned reactor trips, was analyzed to show how to identify these key components and the causes for nuclear power plant trips. 展开更多
