[Objectives]The paper was to verify and explore the application effect of intelligent insect sexual attraction monitoring system.[Methods]The data of Helicoverpa armigera and Spodoptera frugiperda monitored by intelli...[Objectives]The paper was to verify and explore the application effect of intelligent insect sexual attraction monitoring system.[Methods]The data of Helicoverpa armigera and Spodoptera frugiperda monitored by intelligent insect sexual attraction monitoring system,manual survey and traditional pest monitoring tool were compared and analyzed,and the application effect of guiding field pest control was investigated.[Results]The statistical data of intelligent insect sexual attraction monitoring system were highly consistent with that of manual survey,and were consistent with that of traditional pest monitoring tool,which had good effect in guiding field control.[Conclusions]The monitoring data of intelligent insect sexual attraction monitoring system are accurate,efficient,real-time and practical.It can solve the problem of high monitoring intensity for the monitoring personnel and conform to the development direction of modern agriculture.展开更多

M...Men and women at Northwest University (n=751), Xi'an, China were asked to judge the attractiveness of photographsof female patients who had undergone micrograft surgery to reduce their waist-to-hip ratios (WHR). Micrograft surgeryinvolves harvesting adipose tissue from the waist and reshaping the buttocks to produce a low WHR and an 'hourglass' femalefigure. This gynoid distribution of female body fat has been shown to correlate with measures of fertility and health. Significantlylarger numbers of subjects, of both sexes, chose post-operative photographs, with lower WHRs, as more attractive thanpre-operative photographs of the same women. Some patients had gained, and some had lost weight, post-operatively, with resultantchanges in body mass index (BMI). However, these changes in BMI were not related to judgments of attractiveness. Volatile sex pheromones are vital for sexual communication between males and females.Females of the American cockroach,Periplaneta americana,produce and emit two sex pheromone components,periplanone-A(PA)and periplano...Volatile sex pheromones are vital for sexual communication between males and females.Females of the American cockroach,Periplaneta americana,produce and emit two sex pheromone components,periplanone-A(PA)and periplanone-B(PB).Although PB is the major sex attractant and can attract males,how it interacts with PA in regulating sexual behaviors is still unknown.In this study,we found that in male cockroaches,PA counteracted PB attraction.We identified two odorant receptors(ORs),OR53 and OR100,as PB/PA and PA receptors,respectively.OR53 and OR100 were predominantly expressed in the antennae of sexually mature males,and their expression levels were regulated by the sex differentiation pathway and nutrition-responsive signals.Cellular localization of OR53 and OR100 in male antennae further revealed that two types of sensilla coordinate a complex two-pheromone-two-receptor pathway in regulating cockroach sexual behaviors.These findings indicate distinct functions of the two sex pheromone components,identify their receptors and possible regulatory mechanisms underlying the male-specific and age-dependent sexual behaviors,and can guide novel strategies for pest management.展开更多
