The gut microbiota is recognized as an endocrine organ with the capacity to influence distant organs and associated biological pathways.Recent advan-cements underscore the critical role of gut microbial homeostasis in female health;with dysbiosis potentially leading to diseases among women such as polycystic ovarian syndrome, endometriosis, breast cancer, cervical cancer, and ovarian cancer etc.Despite this, there has been limited discussion on the underlying mechanisms. This editorial explores the three potential mechanisms through which gut microbiota dysbiosis may impact the development of diseases among women, namely, the immune system, the gut microbiota-estrogen axis, and the metabolite pathway. We focused on approaches for treating diseases in women by addressing gut microbiota imbalances through probiotics, prebiotics supple-mentation,and fecal microbiota transplantation(FMT).Future studies should focus on determining the molecular mechanisms underlying associations between dysbiosis of gut microbiota and female diseases to realize precision medicine, with FMT emerging as a promising intervention. 展开更多

The microbiome plays a critical role in the process of conception and the outcomes of pregnancy.Disruptions in microbiome homeostasis in women of reproductive age can lead to various pregnancy complications, which significantly impact maternal and fetal health.Recent studies have associated the microbiome in the female reproductive tract(FRT)with assisted reproductive technology(ART)outcomes, and restoring microbiome balance has been shown to improve fertility in infertile couples. This review provides an overview of the role of the microbiome in female reproductive health, including its implications for pregnancy outcomes and ARTs.Additionally, recent advances in the use of microbial biomarkers as indicators of pregnancy disorders are summarized.A comprehensive understanding of the characteristics of the microbiome before and during pregnancy and its impact on reproductive health will greatly promote maternal and fetal health.Such knowledge can also contribute to the development of ARTs and microbiome-based interventions. 展开更多

BACKGROUND Almost 80 percent of adults in the United States have had cytomegalovirus(CMV)infection by age 40.The number of symptomatic CMV hepatitis cases has been increasing along with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)cases in the United States that is estimated to be 25 percent of the population. In this paper,we try to link these two entities together.CASE SUMMARY In this case report,we describe a young female who presented with fever, nausea, and vomiting who was found to have NAFLD and CMV hepatitis that was treated supportively.CONCLUSION In this case report,we describe NAFLD as a risk factor for CMV hepatitis and discuss the possible impact on clinical practice. We believe,it is essential to consider NAFLD and it’s disease mechanisms’localized immu-nosuppression,as a risk factor of CMV hepatitis and severe coronavirus disease 2019 infection. 展开更多

Objective:We aimed to evaluate an integrated screening program for female migrants to Taiwan.Method:We performed a mixed methodological evaluation of a public health nurse(PHN)-led intervention to promote an integrated screening program for female migrants to Taiwan. The clini-cal case yield was determined by an audit, and staff/client questionnaires were used for the evalua-tion.Screening comprised surveillance for four untreated chronic diseases(hypertension, diabetes mellitus, tuberculosis, and liver disease),four cancers(mouth, bowel, liver, and cervix),parasitic infection, and hyperlipidemia. Results:Three hundred and thirty-six PHNs and 4751 immigrant women-with an average age of 29.2 years, most of whom were from Vietnam(44%)or China's Mainland(41%)-took part in the programme. Two thirds of screened women had no abnormalities.Further investigation was required in 1523 women,of whom 1220 were found to have significant disease. The majority of 280 PHNs(85%)found the content, processes, and waiting time to be‘highly acceptable’and thought the program was worthwhile and could be incorporated into standard care. Conclusions:The Taipei County Comprehensive Health Screening Programme provided an accessible,free-of-charge,and preventative intervention for female migrants to Taiwan and had a good clinical case yield. 展开更多
