This study aimed to quantify the loss of life expectancy(LOLE) resulting from a cancer diagnosis and examine disparities in LOLE based on area-level socioeconomic status(SES).Methods: Data were collected for all people between 50 and 89 years of age who were diagnosed with cancer, registered in the NSW Cancer Registry between 2001 and 2019, and underwent mortality follow-up evaluations until December 2020. Flexible parametric survival models were fitted to estimate the LOLE by gender and area-level SES for 12 common cancers. Results: Of 422,680 people with cancer, 24% and 18% lived in the most and least disadvantaged areas, respectively. Patients from the most disadvantaged areas had a significantly greater average LOLE than patients from the least disadvantaged areas for cancers with high survival rates, including prostate [2.9 years(95% CI: 2.5±3.2 years) vs. 1.6 years(95% CI: 1.3±1.9 years)] and breast cancer [1.6 years(95% CI: 1.4±1.8 years) vs. 1.2 years(95% CI: 1.0±1.4 years)]. The highest average LOLE occurred in males residing in the most disadvantaged areas with pancreatic [16.5 years(95% CI: 16.1±16.8 years) vs. 16.2 years(95% CI: 15.7±16.7 years)] and liver cancer [15.5 years(95% CI: 15.0±16.0 years) vs. 14.7 years(95% CI: 14.0±15.5 years)]. Females residing in the least disadvantaged areas with thyroid cancer [0.9 years(95% CI: 0.4±1.4 years) vs. 0.6 years(95% CI: 0.2±1.0 years)] or melanoma [0.9 years(95% CI: 0.8±1.1 years) vs. 0.7 years(95% CI: 0.5±0.8 years)] had the lowest average LOLE.Conclusions: Patients from the most disadvantaged areas had the highest LOLE with SES-based differences greatest for patients diagnosed with cancer at an early stage or cancers with higher survival rates, suggesting the need to prioritise early detection and reduce treatment-related barriers and survivorship challenges to improve life expectancy.展开更多

The flexible tether is modeled as a series of lumped masses and viscoelastic dampers so that a finite multi- degree-of-freedom nonlinear system is obtained. The stability of equilibrium positions of the nonlinear system is then analyzed via a simplified two-degree-freedom model in an orbital reference frame. In-plane motions of the tethered satellite system are studied numerically, taking the space environments into account. A large number of numerical simulations show that the flexible tethered satellite system displays nonlinear dynamic characteristics, such as bifurcations, quasi-periodic oscillations, and chaotic motions.展开更多

Considering the large plastic strain in this forming process which is much larger than that of uniform deformation phase of uniaxial tensile test, the widely adopted method of simulating the forming processes with non-supplemented material data from uniaxial tensile test will certainly lead to large error. To reduce this error, the material data is supplemented based on three constitutive models. Then a finite element model of a six passes flexible roll forming process is established based on the supplemented material data and the original material data from the uniaxial tensile test. The flexible roll forming experiment of a B pillar reinforcing plate is carried out to verify the proposed method. Final cross section shapes of the experimental and the simulated results are compared. It is shown that the simulation calculated with supplemented material data based on Swift model agrees well with the experimental results, while the simulation based on original material data could not predict the actual deformation accurately. The results indicate that this material supplement method is reliable and indispensible, and the simulation model can well reflect the real metal forming process. Detailed analysis of the distribution and history of plastic strain at different positions are performed. A new material data supplement method is proposed to tackle the problem which is ignored in other roll forming simulations, and thus the forming process simulation accuracy can be greatly improved.展开更多

With brush and stone as building materials, this kind of structure has an obvious engineering effect. However, it not only requires huge capital investments, but also has negative impacts on the ecological environment. The suspended flexible dam is an innovative engineering measure, and few theoretical and experimental researches of this type dam can be found at present. This paper studies the mechanism and shape characteristics of this dam and obtains the dynamic equilibrium equation of flexible dam, the float buoyancy expression, and the condition for transformation among three forms of the underwater shape of the dam. The results are valuable in engineering application and can be used as the reference for the future work due to the distinctive design philosophy, the small negative effects on environment and the consistency for sustainable development.展开更多

Most of the current researches for machining line configuration and balancing problems are related to dedicated transfer lines with dedicated machine workstations. With growing trends towards great product variety and fluctuations in market demand, dedicated transfer lines are being replaced with flexible machining line composed of identical CNC machines. This paper deals with the line configuration and balancing problem for flexible machining lines. The objective is to assign operations to workstations and find the sequence of execution, specify the number of machines in each workstation while minimizing the line cycle time and total number of machines. This problem is subject to precedence, clustering, accessibility and capacity constraints among the features, operations, setups and workstations. The mathematical model and heuristic algorithm based on feature group strategy and polychromatic sets theory are presented to find an optimal solution. The feature group strategy and polychromatic sets theory are used to establish constraint model. A heuristic operations sequencing and assignment algorithm is given. An industrial case study is carried out, and multiple optimal solutions in different line configurations are obtained. The case studying results show that the solutions with shorter cycle time and higher line balancing rate demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed algorithm. This research proposes a heuristic line configuration and balancing algorithm based on feature group strategy and polychromatic sets theory which is able to provide better solutions while achieving an improvement in computing time.展开更多

Moreover, as FMS is a complex asynchronous concurrent system, its model also should have the abilities to express the concurrency in the system and to analyze the behavior of the system. It is difficult to use any one method to model such a complex system as FMS. A modeling method using Object-oriented modeling language-unified modeling language (UML) and object-Oriented Petri nets (OPNs) is proposed. Class diagram in UML is used to represent the static relations among the objects in FMS. OPNs are used to model the dynamic behavior of the objects and conduct performance analysis. OPNs also can be used to identify the attributes and operations of the objects. The model can describe the system integrally and can be used to design FMS control software naturally.展开更多

Females residing in the least disadvantaged areas with thyroid cancer [0.9 years(95% CI: 0.4±1.4 years) vs. 0.6 years(95% CI: 0.2±1.0 years)] or melanoma [0.9 years(95% CI: 0.8±1.1 years) vs. 0.7 years(95% CI: 0.5±0.8 years)] had the lowest average LOLE.Conclusions: Patients from the most disadvantaged areas had the highest LOLE with SES-based differences greatest for patients diagnosed with cancer at an early stage or cancers with higher survival rates, suggesting the need to prioritise early detection and reduce treatment-related barriers and survivorship challenges to improve life expectancy.
文摘Based on the software support of SIMAN/CINEMA, this paper presents anintegrated approach to flexible modelling and simulation with animation. Themethodology provides a structured way of integrating mathematical and logicalmodel, statistical experimentation, and statistical analysis with computeranimation. Within this methodology, an animated simulation study is separatedinto six different activities: simulation objectives identification, system modeldevelopment, simulation experiment specification, animation layoutconstruction, real-time simulation and animation run, and output dataanalysis. These six activities are objectives driven, relatively independent, andintegrate through software organization and simulation files. The key ideasbehind this methodology are objectives orientation, modelling flexibility, simulation and animation integration, and application tailorability. Though themethodology is closely related to SIMAN/CINEMA, it can be extended to othersoftware environments.

文摘The paper studies the nonlinear dynamics of a flexible tethered satellite system subject to space environments, such as the J2 perturbation, the air drag force, the solar pressure, the heating effect, and the orbital eccentricity. A large number of numerical simulations show that the flexible tethered satellite system displays nonlinear dynamic characteristics, such as bifurcations, quasi-periodic oscillations, and chaotic motions.

文摘Flexible roll forming is a promising manufacturing method for the production of variable cross section products. A new material data supplement method is proposed to tackle the problem which is ignored in other roll forming simulations, and thus the forming process simulation accuracy can be greatly improved.
文摘Hydraulic structures such as groin, longitudinal dike and seawall are common in water conservancy and water transportation engineering projects at home and abroad, which have long been dominated by solid mass structural form. The results are valuable in engineering application and can be used as the reference for the future work due to the distinctive design philosophy, the small negative effects on environment and the consistency for sustainable development.
文摘Robotic manipulators are widely used in applications that require fast and precise motion.Such devices, however, are prompt to nonlinear control issues due to the flexibility in joints and the friction in the motors within the dynamics of their rigid part.To address these issues, the Linear Matrix Inequalities(LMIs)and Parallel Distributed Compensation(PDC)approaches are implemented in the Takagy–Sugeno Fuzzy Model(T-SFM).We propose the following methodology;initially, the state space equations of the nonlinear manipulator model are derived.Next,a Takagy–Sugeno Fuzzy Model(T-SFM)technique is used for linearizing the state space equations of the nonlinear manipulator. The T-SFM controller is developed using the Parallel Distributed Compensation(PDC)method. The prime concept of the designed controller is to compensate for all the fuzzy rules.Furthermore, the Linear Matrix Inequalities(LMIs)are applied to generate adequate cases to ensure stability and control.Convex programming methods are applied to solve the developed LMIs problems.Simulations developed for the proposed model show that the proposed controller stabilized the system with zero tracking error in less than 1.5 s.

文摘Line configuration and balancing is to select the type of line and allot a given set of operations as well as machines to a sequence of workstations to realize high-efficiency production. This research proposes a heuristic line configuration and balancing algorithm based on feature group strategy and polychromatic sets theory which is able to provide better solutions while achieving an improvement in computing time.

文摘As the main component of computer integrated manufacturing system (CIMS), flexible manufacturing system (FMS) should be an open system with reusability and extenchaility. The model can describe the system integrally and can be used to design FMS control software naturally.

文摘To cope with requirement changes flexibly and rapidly, the existing component-based paradigm is being evolved into a service-oriented computing paradigm. The main characteristic of the service-oriented computing paradigm is that service-oriented applications are developed as loosely coupled services that reflect business concerns. This paradigm also promotes business agility, facilitating quick reactions to business changes. Therefore,to enhance and support the benefits of the service-oriented computing paradigm,we must consider how to improve flexibility and reusability during the development of service-oriented applications. We propose the variability modeling approach to specify and control the common and distinguishing characteristics of service-oriented applications. That is,the key concepts of product-line technology can be used to make service-oriented applications more flexible and reusable. This paper describes variability modeling at two levels;the composition level and the specification level. At the composition level,we describe the variability of composition and the flow of domain services that fulfill business processes. At the specification level,we present a domain service that is an abstract service with variability. The use of our systematic variability modeling approach can greatly increase the flexibility, applicability, and reusability of service-oriented applications.

文摘Summary:Several studies have indicated that stroke survivors with multiple lesions or with larger lesion volumes have a higher risk of stroke recurrence. However, the relationship between lesion locations and stroke recurrence is unclear. We conducted a prospective cohort study of first-ever ischemic stroke survivors who were consecutively enrolled from January 2010 to December 2015.Stroke recurrence was assessed every 3 months after post-discharge via telephone interviews by trained interviewers.Lesion locations were obtained from hospital-based MRI or CT scans and classified using two classification systems that were based on cerebral hemisphere or vascular territory and brain anatomical structures.Flexible parametric survival models using the proportional hazards scale(PH model)were used to analyze the time-to-event data.Among 633 survivors,63.51%(n-402)had anterior circulation ischemia(ACI),and morc than half of all ACIs occurred in the subcortex. After a median follow-up of 2.5 years,117(18.48%)survivors developed a recurrent stroke. The results of the multivariate PH model showed that survivors with non-brain lesions were at higher risk of recurrence than those with right-side lesions(HR,2.79;95%CI,1.53,5.08;P-0.001).There was no increase in risk among survivors with left-side lesions(HR,0.97;95%CI,0.53,1.75;P=0.914)or both-side lesions(HR,1.24;95%CI,0.75,2.07;P-0.401)compared to those with right-side lesions.Additionally, there were no associations between stroke ecurrence and lesion locations that were classified based on vascular territory and brain anatomical structures. It was concluded that first-ever ischemic stroke survivors with non-brain lesion had higher recurrence risk than those with right-side lesion, although no significant associations were found when the lesion locations were classified by vascular territory and brain anatomical structures.

文摘A model-based optimal dispatch framework was proposed to optimize operation of residential flexible loads considering their real-life operating characteristics,energy-related occupant behavior, and the benefits of different stakeholders.A pilot test was conducted for a typical household.According to the monitored appliance-level data, operating characteristics of flexible loads were identified and the models of these flexible loads were developed using multiple linear regression and K-means clustering methods. Moreover,a data-mining approach was developed to extract the occupant energy usage behavior of various flexible loads from the monitored data.Occupant behavior of appliance usage, such as daily turn-on times,turn-on moment, duration of each operation, preference of temperature setting, and flexibility window, were determined by the developed data-mining approach.Based on the established flexible load models and the identified occupant energy usage behavior,a many-objective nonlinear optimal dispatch model was developed aiming at minimizing daily electricity costs,occupants’dissatisfaction,CO_(2) emissions, and the average ramping index of household power profiles. The model was solved with the assistance of the NSGA-III and TOPSIS methods. Results indicate that the proposed framework can effectively optimize the operation of household flexible loads.Compared with the benchmark, the daily electricity costs,CO_(2) emissions, and average ramping index of household power profiles of the optimal plan were reduced by 7.3%,6.5%,and 14.4%,respectively,under the TOU tariff, while those were decreased by 9.5%,8.8%,and 23.8%,respectively,under the dynamic price tariff. The outputs of this work can offer guidance for the day-ahead optimal scheduling of household flexible loads in practice.

文摘Taking a concrete frame supporting space structure as the research object,we systematically studied its lateral-torsion coupling effect of reverse problems in consistent earthquake excitation.Firstly, based on its reverse forms and features,we put forward a mechanical analysis model(flexibility layer model) and a calculation method using the response spectrum method and the weighted average method, and verified their validity and feasibility using case analysis. The result shows that the translation displacement change trend of the space structure is basically the same whether reverse exists in the supporting structure or not,but the supporting structure torsion has an effect on the displacement with a relative increase of 10%.

文摘With the characteristics of diversity, randomness, concurrency and decomposability, tasks in manufacturing field are very complicated, and so manufacturing grid (MG) should have considerable flexibility to deal with this problem. With the definition of node and arc, MG structure is converted into a small-world network. Given construction cost constraint, the problem of shortest task waiting time is transformed into the constrained optimization problem, and a corresponding ?exibility analysis model based on average path length (APL) is proposed, and the premise of arc-length and node-distance are defined. The results of application example show that the analysis model is effiective.
