The lens of each injury eye was conserved. Follow-up observation of these cases ranged from one to four years. Results: The intralenticular magnetic foreign bodies of 15 patients were successfully removed. The lens of each injury eye was conserved and the transparence of the lens was properly maintained. Sizes of these foreign bodies were measured, ranging from 0.3 mm to 3mm in diameter. The follow-up observation showed that the corrected visual acuity of 14 cases was not changed after operation. Conclusions: The intraocular magnet is very helpful for removal of magnetic foreign bodies from the transparent lens. This magnet allows removing of the foreign body by the surgeon and no damage to the lens was induced during the operation. Thus, maintenance of visual acuity of most of the patients can be achieved.展开更多

Its diagnosis is not always easy in respect of its similarity to soft tissue sarcoma. The most common foreign body is surgical sponge which can be detectable macroscopically. We present a foreign body granuloma in the left buttock caused by microscopic surgical materials that developed into a large lesion. An 80-year-old man with a history of surgery for dislocation of the left hip 20 years earlier, presented with a slowly growing mass that had expanded rapidly over the preceding 2 months. Histological examination revealed organizing granulation tissue surrounding the scattered foreign materials. One should be aware of foreign body granuloma at previously operated sites even without a retained macroscopic gauze sponge.展开更多

Methods:A retrospective review was conducted of radio graphic and clinical eye examination data from 62 patients (66 eyes),suspected of having ocular foreign bodies at time of first presentation to the Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center (Guangzhou, China) between August 2007 and October 2011. The sensitivity and specificity of X-ray, B-ultrasound and CT scan in the diagnosis of ocular foreign bodies were investigated and their accuracy in locating these foreign bodies was compared. Results: A total of 75.8% (n=47) subjects had ocular foreign bodies; 66% of these were metallic. Patients with intraocular, eye wall, and extraocular foreign bodies accounted for 46, 28, and 26% of the total, respectively. The sensitivities of X-ray,CT scan, and B-ultrasound in the diagnosis of ocular foreign bodies were 58.3%, 61.7%, and 75%, the specificityies were 63.3%, 100%, and 87.5%, and the accuracy in locating foreign bodies was 73.4%, 94.7%, and 86.5%, respectively. The properties of foreign bodies affected the diagnosistic accuracy of X-ray,but exerted little impact upon B-ultrasound and CT scan. Conclusion:A fairly high incidence of ocular foreign bodies was noted in patients suspected with ocular foreign bodies at their first presentations.X-ray combined with CT scan or X-ray in combination with B-ultrasound showed a relatively high sensitivity and specificity in diagnosing ocular foreign bodies. CT scan had the highest accuracy in locating ocular foreignbodies. (Eye Science 2013; 28:11-14)展开更多

The use of urogenital foreign bodies for sexual pleasure is a common occurrence in today’s population. The aim of this discussion is the management of scrotal injury caused by magnetic urogenital foreign bodies. Case Presentation: 56-year-old male with scrotal tissue entrapped between two opposed magnet rings. Self-reported attempts at removal were unsuccessful and caused for presentation to the emergency department. Additional attempts at removal by medical staff unsuccessful in emergency department and therefore the patient proceeded to the operating room. Intraoperatively the use of two cardiac magnets allowed for removal without a need for invasive surgical procedure. Conclusion: Cardiac magnets are preferred means of removal for entrapped skin between magnetic foreign bodies that could be utilized at the bedside.展开更多

The collected variables consisted of age, date, gender, time of injury, time until repair, mechanism of injury, zone of injury, injury associated vitreous hemorrhage, trauma associated RD, post traumatic RD, aphakia at injury, periocular trauma and OTS in cases of OGI. RESULTS: Totally 102 patients with traumatic OGI with a minimum of 12 mo follow-up and a median age at of 48.6 y(range: 3-104 y) were identified. Final best corrected visual acuity(BCVA) was independent from the time of repair, yet a statistically significant difference was present between the final BCVA and the zone of injury. Severe trauma presenting with an OTS score Ⅰ(P<0.0001) or Ⅱ(P<0.0001) revealed a significantly worse BCVA at last follow up when compared to the cohort with an OTS score >Ⅲ. OGI associated RD was observed in 36/102 patients(35.3%), whereas post traumatic RD(defined as RD following 14 d after OGI) occurred in 37 patients(36.3%). OGI associated RD did not correlate with the OTS and the zone of injury(P=0.193), yet post traumatic RD correlated significantly with zone Ⅲ injuries(P=0.013). CONCLUSION: The study shows a significant association between lower OTS score and zone Ⅲ injury with lower final BCVA and a higher number of surgeries, but only zone Ⅲ could be significantly associated with a higher rate of RD.展开更多

Methods: A total of 12 New Zealand white rabbits, either sex, weighing 2.5-3.5 kg, and provided by the Experimental Animal Center of Henan Province were employed in this study. For each rabbit, 5 autologous eyelashes (1 cm in length and 0.2-0.3 mm in diameter) were implanted into the right ocular vitreum, while the left control ocular vitreum received sham operation but nothing was implanted. SWI sequential test was made 2 hours postoperatively. Then the rabbits were killed and the specimens of the vitreous bodies of the rabbits were obtained. Hematoxylin and eosin staining and histological examinations were performed. Results: The autologous eyelashes in 8 ocular vitreums of rabbits showed linear low signal intensity on the magni-tude images and susceptibility weighted images, but linear high signal intensity on the phase images. Among the 12 experimental rabbits, 5 eyelashes in the right vitreum were completely shown in 3 rabbits, partly shown in 5 rabbits (2 eyelashes shown in 3 rabbits and 3 eyelashes shown in 2 rabbits), and not shown in 4 rabbits. Conelusions: SWI of the foreign body ofintravitreous autologous eyelashes in rabbits has its own characteristics. The combined application of SWI sequential magnitude images, susceptibility weighted images and phase images is helpful to the detection and diagnosis of intravitreous autologous eyelashes in rabbits.展开更多

These are mainly applied in the maxillofacial region adjacent to the sites of dental treatment to achieve cosmetic benefits. However, as dentists typically lack sufficient knowledge about the golden thread lift procedure, it may present a challenge to dental examinations and treatments. It is therefore crucial for dentists to have a comprehensive understanding of the procedure. This case report covers our experience with the dental examination of a patient with golden threads. We emphasize the dental complications and precautions that should be taken for such cases. These golden threads are made of pure gold, nonabsorbable, and can be broken. These can obstruct dental examination, as well as cause metal allergies and foreign body granulomas. Additionally, it is difficult to completely remove these threads when they break apart. In the future, since more patients are expected to undergo this procedure, it is possible to encounter these golden threads as artifacts on imaging. Therefore, it is important to educate dentists about the golden thread lift procedure and its dental implications. It is also imperative to determine whether the patient has undergone the golden thread lift procedure in the medical questionnaire prior to the magnetic resonance imaging examination. Thus, dentists should be able to conduct a detailed interview with the patient, determine the feasibility of examination or treatment, and communicate this assessment to the patient.展开更多
