Through investigating and analyzing environmental conditions, soil, water quality, weather of mines in Chengde, as well as studying growth habits and rate, acid and alkali resistance, anti-pollution property of landscape plants, specific application of landscape plants in creating green mines are investigated in this study, and relevant statistics are sorted out to summarize functions of landscape plants in the greening of mines as well as selection and application of different plants in different parts of mines, which well demonstrates the progresses achieved by Chengde City in its construction of green mines. Scientific selection and application of landscape plants are emphasized to fully develop their functions and improve the utilization efficiency, the significance of applying landscape plants in the construction of green mines in Chengde is pointed out, and several suggestions are proposed in view of existing problems in the present construction, which will provide scientific support for the selection and application of landscape plants in urban areas, industrial areas, mines or other industrial cities with similar environmental conditions.展开更多

mRNAs are transported within a plant through phloem.Aphids are phloem feeders and dodders(Cuscuta spp.)are parasites which establish phloem connections with host plants.When aphids feed on dodders,whether there is tra...mRNAs are transported within a plant through phloem.Aphids are phloem feeders and dodders(Cuscuta spp.)are parasites which establish phloem connections with host plants.When aphids feed on dodders,whether there is trafficking of mRNAs among aphids,dodders,and host plants and if aphid feeding a匚fects the mRNA transfer between dodders and hosts are unclear.We constructed a green peach aphid(GPA,Myzus persicae)-dodder(Cuscuta austra/is)-cucumber(Cucumis sativus)tritrophic system by infesting GPAs on C.australis,which parasitized cucumber hosts.We found that GPA feeding activated defense-related phytohormonal and transcriptomic responses in both C.australis and cucumbers and large numbers of mRNAs were found to be transferred between C.australis and cucumbers and between C.australis and GPAs;importantly,GPA feeding on C.australis greatly altered inter-species mobile mRNA profiles.Furthermore,three cucumber mRNAs and three GPA mRNAs could be respectively detected in GPAs and cucumbers.Moreover,our statistical analysis indicated that mRNAs with high abundances and long transcript lengths are likely to be mobile.This study reveals the existence of inter-species and even inter-kingdom mRNA movement among insects,parasitic plants,and parasite hosts,and suggests complex regulation of mRNA trafficking.展开更多

The Green Revolution gene Semidwarf 1(SD1), which modulates gibberellic acid(GA) biosynthesis, plays a principal role in determining rice plant height. Mutations in SD1 reduce rice plant height and promote lodging resistance and fertilizer tolerance to increase grain production. The plant height mediated by SD1 also favors grain yield under certain conditions. However, it is not yet known whether the function of SD1 in upland rice promotes adaptation and grain production. In this study, the plant height and grain yield of irrigated and upland rice were comparatively analyzed under paddy and dryland conditions. In response to dryland environments, rice requires a reduction in plant height to cope with water deficits. Upland rice accessions had greater plant heights than their irrigated counterparts under both paddy and dryland conditions, and appropriately reducing plant height could improve adaptability to dryland environments and maintain high grain yield formation. Moreover, upland rice cultivars with thicker stem diameters had stronger lodging resistance, which addresses the lodging problem. Knockout of SD1 in the upland rice cultivar IRAT104 reduced the plant height and grain yield, demonstrating that the adjustment of plant height mediated by SD1 could increase grain production in dryland fields. In addition, an SD1 genetic diversity analysis verified that haplotype variation causes phenotypic variation in plant height. During the breeding history of rice, SD1 allelic mutations were selected from landraces to improve the grain yield of irrigated rice cultivars, and this selection was accompanied by a reduction in plant height. Thus, five known mutant alleles were analyzed to verify that functional SD1 is required for upland rice production. All these results suggest that SD1 might have undergone artificial positive selection in upland rice, which provides further insights concerning greater plant height in upland rice breeding.展开更多

To understand the effects of plant density on grain yield(GY) and N effi...Stay green(SG) maize was found to have higher grain yield and post-silking nitrogen(N) uptake(PostN) compared with a non-stay green(NSG) hybrid. To understand the effects of plant density on grain yield(GY) and N efficiency in modern maize hybrids, we compared two modern hybrids(SG hybrid DY508 and NSG hybrid NH101) with similar maturity ratings at three plant densities(45 000, 60 000, and 75 000 pl ha^–1) in 2014 and 2015. GY, leaf senescence, dry matter(DM) accumulation,N accumulation, PostN, and post-silking N remobilization(RemN) were analyzed. DY508 and NH101 had similar GY, but DY508 had higher thousand kernel weight(TKW) and lower kernel number(KN) than NH101. Plant density significantly increased GY in the two hybrids. On average, over the two years, plant density improved GY in DY508 and NH101 by 18.5 and 11.1%, respectively, but there were no differences in total dry matter(TDM) and post-silking DM(PostDM) between the two hybrids. Plant density improved leaf N, stem N, and grain N at the silking and maturity stages in 2014 and 2015. DY508 was lower in harvest index(HI), nitrogen harvest index(NHI), and grain N concentration(GNC) than NH101. Grain N in DY508 was 2.61 kg ha^–1 less than in NH101, and this was caused by lower GNC and leaf RemN. On the average, DY508 was 1.62 kg ha^–1 less in leaf remobilized N(leaf RemN) than NH101, but was similar in stem remobilized N(stem RemN;2.47 kg ha^–1 vs. 3.41 kg ha^–1). Maize hybrid DY508 shows delayed leaf senescence in the upper and bottom canopy layers in the later stages of growth. The present study provides evidence that the NH101, which has rapid leaf senescence at the late grain-filling stage, has gained equivalent GY and higher leaf RemN, and was more efficient in N utilization.展开更多
The use of herbal products has increased significantly in recent years.Because these products are not subject to regulation by the Food and Drug Administration and are often used without supervision by a healthcare pr...The use of herbal products has increased significantly in recent years.Because these products are not subject to regulation by the Food and Drug Administration and are often used without supervision by a healthcare provider,the indication for and consumption of these supplements is quite variable.Moreover,their use is generally regarded as safe and natural by the lay-public.Unfortunately,there has been an increase in the number of reported adverse events occurring with the use of herbal products.We present a case of acute impending liver failure in an adolescent male using a weightloss product containing green tea extract.Our case adds to the growing concern surrounding the ingestion of green tea extract and serves to heighten healthcare provider awareness of a potential green tea extract hepatotoxicity.Despite the generally touted benefits of green tea as a whole,clinical concern regarding its use is emerging and has been linked to its concentration in multiple herbal supplements.Interestingly,the suspected harmful compounds are those previously proposed to be advantageous for weight-loss,cancer remedy,and anti-inflammatory purposes.Yet,we emphasize the need to be aware of not just green tea extract,but the importance of monitoring patient use of all dietary supplements and herbal products.展开更多

It has emphasized composing landscape based on sections, enriching plant levels, improve forest canopy line and enrich tour space. Plants on green lands can be moved, adjusted, transformed, added and supplemented.

文摘Stay green(SG) maize was found to have higher grain yield and post-silking nitrogen(N) uptake(PostN) compared with a non-stay green(NSG) hybrid. To understand the effects of plant density on grain yield(GY) and N efficiency in modern maize hybrids, we compared two modern hybrids(SG hybrid DY508 and NSG hybrid NH101) with similar maturity ratings at three plant densities(45 000, 60 000, and 75 000 pl ha^–1) in 2014 and 2015. GY, leaf senescence, dry matter(DM) accumulation,N accumulation, PostN, and post-silking N remobilization(RemN) were analyzed. DY508 and NH101 had similar GY, but DY508 had higher thousand kernel weight(TKW) and lower kernel number(KN) than NH101. Plant density significantly increased GY in the two hybrids. On average, over the two years, plant density improved GY in DY508 and NH101 by 18.5 and 11.1%, respectively, but there were no differences in total dry matter(TDM) and post-silking DM(PostDM) between the two hybrids. Plant density improved leaf N, stem N, and grain N at the silking and maturity stages in 2014 and 2015. DY508 was lower in harvest index(HI), nitrogen harvest index(NHI), and grain N concentration(GNC) than NH101. Grain N in DY508 was 2.61 kg ha^–1 less than in NH101, and this was caused by lower GNC and leaf RemN. On the average, DY508 was 1.62 kg ha^–1 less in leaf remobilized N(leaf RemN) than NH101, but was similar in stem remobilized N(stem RemN;2.47 kg ha^–1 vs. 3.41 kg ha^–1). Maize hybrid DY508 shows delayed leaf senescence in the upper and bottom canopy layers in the later stages of growth. The present study provides evidence that the NH101, which has rapid leaf senescence at the late grain-filling stage, has gained equivalent GY and higher leaf RemN, and was more efficient in N utilization.
文摘The use of herbal products has increased significantly in recent years.Because these products are not subject to regulation by the Food and Drug Administration and are often used without supervision by a healthcare provider,the indication for and consumption of these supplements is quite variable.Moreover,their use is generally regarded as safe and natural by the lay-public.Unfortunately,there has been an increase in the number of reported adverse events occurring with the use of herbal products.We present a case of acute impending liver failure in an adolescent male using a weightloss product containing green tea extract.Our case adds to the growing concern surrounding the ingestion of green tea extract and serves to heighten healthcare provider awareness of a potential green tea extract hepatotoxicity.Despite the generally touted benefits of green tea as a whole,clinical concern regarding its use is emerging and has been linked to its concentration in multiple herbal supplements.Interestingly,the suspected harmful compounds are those previously proposed to be advantageous for weight-loss,cancer remedy,and anti-inflammatory purposes.Yet,we emphasize the need to be aware of not just green tea extract,but the importance of monitoring patient use of all dietary supplements and herbal products.

文摘This issue of Engineering was compiled from papers presented at the First International Conference on Green Plant Protection Innovation(1st ICGPPI),held in Haikou in May 2018,and the Second International Conference on Green Plant Protection Innovation(2nd ICGPPI),held in Guiyang in October 2019.The conferences were sponsored by the Chinese Academy of Engineering,and the Academic Committee of the Forum of the ICGPPI,chaired by Professor Baoan Song,organized the conference.The 1st ICGPPI was attended by more than 800 people from seven countries,while the 2nd ICGPPI had more than 200 attendees from nine countries.The wide range of topics related to more environmentally sound crop protection was of great interest to all,and the meetings provided provided an opportunity for scientists from many disciplines of crop protection to exchange and share ideas and advances.
