An approach based on the frequency diverse array (FDA) technique is proposed to mitigate the range ambiguous clutter. The frequency increment is designed to distinguish the clutter at ambiguous ranges and suppress the clutter by using a subspace projection algorithm. On the platform with high altitude or limited array antennas, the proposed method performs better for its independence of the elevation degrees-of-freedom (DOF). FDA offers a new range-angle-dependent beam pattern through a small frequency increment across elements. Due to the coupling between the angle and range, a mismatch between the test angle and physical angle occurs when the slant range on which the beam focuses is not equal to the slant range of the real target. In addition, the range of the target can be extracted by sum-difference beam except for time-delay testing, because the beam provides a range resolution in the FDA that cannot be deceived by traditional deceptive jamming. A strategy of using FDA to transmit two pulses with zero and nonzero frequency increments, respectively, is proposed to ensure that the angle of a target can be obtained by FDA. Moreover, the lo- calization performance is examined by analyzing the Cramer-Rao lower bound and detection probability. Effectiveness of the proposed method is confirmed by simulation results.展开更多

In this paper, Doppler estimation and the respective compensation technique along with various diversity techniques were deliberated for OFDM-based systems best suited for underwater wireless information exchange. In practice, for mobile communication, adjustment and tuning of transducers in order to get spatial diversity is extremely difficult. Considering the relatively low coherence bandwidth in UWA, the frequency diversity design with the Doppler compensation function was elaborated here. The outfield experiments of mobile underwater acoustic communication (UWAC) based on OFDM were carried out with 0.17 bit/(s-Hz) spectral efficiency. The validity and the dependability of the scheme were also analyzed.展开更多

As the occupied band-width increases, however, its implementation becomes more and more difficult. In order to make it easier to achieve a UWB-OFDM system, a complexity-reduced Frequency diversity (F-diversity) scheme, Fre-quency-Time Block Code (FTBC), is presented in this paper. The FTBC halves the sampling rate required by other F-diversity techniques so as to cut down the cost of UWB-OFDM systems with F-diversity to a certain extent.展开更多

To counter this problem, a new wireless transmission technology based on Zero-Padding Carrier Interferometry OFDM (ZP-CI/OFDM) is proposed. In a ZP-CI/OFDM system, transmission symbols are spread to all OFDM subcarriers via carrier interferometry codes. This reduces the Peak-to-Average Power Ratio (PAPR) that traditional OFDM suffers and also exploits frequency diversity gain. By zero-padding at the transmitter, advanced receiver technologies can be adopted for ZP-CI/OFDM so that frequency diversity gain can be further utilized and the power efficiency of the system is improved.展开更多

For service-oriented multimedia applications, the performance of multicasting transmission services under multimedia traffic must be evaluated. Multiview Video(MVV) is a promising and emerging type of multimedia traffic that consists of multiple video streams, allows stream switching, and requires strict Quality-of-Service(Qo S). In this study, we investigated multicast transmission of MVV in wireless cellular networks with Partial Frequency Reuse(PFR) and focused on two challenging problems:(1) multicast group formation and(2) subchannel and power allocation. Initially, we propose a novel Content-based Partial frequency reuse Diversity Grouping(CPDG) scheme to allocate users to multicast groups on the basis of Partial frequency reuse Diversity(PD) in wireless networks with PFR. After group formation, an optimization problem for subchannel and power allocation is formulated to minimize network power consumption under Qo S constraint. Thereafter, the optimization problem is divided into two subproblems and solved using simplex method and Karush-KuhnTucker(KKT) condition. Finally, to solve the optimization problem, a suboptimal scheme referred to as Partial frequency reuse Diversity Based Energy-efficient Multicasting(PDEM) is proposed by dynamically allocating wireless resources under Qo S constraint. The simulation results show that the proposed PDEM scheme can achieve close-to-optimal performance. Moreover, mathematical analysis of the effect of PD on network performance can provide guidelines for optimization of multimedia traffic in multicasting-enabled wireless cellular networks with PFR.展开更多
