However, there is a limited understanding regarding the implications of specific patient advocacy outcomes experienced by nurses who advocate for patients in the hospital context. Purpose: This study explored the implications of patient advocacy outcomes experienced among practicing nurses in the hospital context. Methods: A qualitative, descriptive study design was utilized. Data was collected through purposive sampling and an in-depth semi-structured interview of 25 Registered Nurses in an acute care hospital. An inductive qualitative content analysis method was used, and the SRQR guidelines for reporting qualitative studies were followed. Results: This study revealed that nurses who succeeded in advocating for patients experienced feelings of happiness, increased confidence levels, increased work output, and job satisfaction. However, nurses who failed to succeed in advocating for patients experienced physical, emotional, and psychological consequences, which contributed negatively to the quality of patient care. Therapeutic communication and nurses’ commitment to intervene for patients emerged as vital qualities and skills required to succeed in the patient advocacy process. Conclusions: This study showed that patient advocacy has advantages. However, when nurses fail to succeed in their attempt to advocate for patients in clinical practice, the outcomes can negatively affect their own well-being and the quality of patient care delivery. These study results could promote awareness and help nurses to develop strategies for improving patient advocacy activities based on their experiences. Additionally, nurses can seek help, including psychological counseling, when necessary to enhance their optimal well-being as they care for their patients. Nursing educational institutions and hospital managers can support, train, and equip nurses with the required skills for enhancing positive advocacy outcomes. .展开更多

Aim of the Study: To assess nurse’s perception of barriers to research utilization in Saudi Arabia and Palestine Hospitals. This study focuses on medical and surgical nurses in private hospitals. Method: A convenient sample of 156 medical nurses, from 6 general private hospitals, 3 from north Palestine and 3 from Riyadh City (KSA). Results: Out of 180 nurses employed from private hospitals, a total of 156 questionnaires were returned (response rate 86.67%). Results in a final sample size for analysis of 156. The demographic characteristics, age, gender, hospital, role on health care team, clinical experience, marital status, education degree, and current certified in a special area of respondents are shown in Table 1. Their mean age was 29.41, about half of them below 6-year clinical experience 77 (49.4%). Although around 90 (57.7%) of the participants from Palestine hospitals and 66 (42.3%) from Saudi Arabia hospitals, almost half of them their education (diploma) 85 (54.5%). In addition, 114 (73.1%) were female, 85 (54.5%) have current certified in a special area, and 140 (89.7%) respondents worked as staff nurses. Regarding perceptions of barriers to research utilization, the results of the barriers show in the total scale a mean of 3.15 out of 5 f (SD = 0.55;95% CI 3.05 to 3.23). The subscales of setting and research were the highest one (mean = 3.22, SD = (0.63), and the lowest one is “nurse” (mean = 2.95, SD = 0.75). Conclusions: The main barriers of research utilization in practice for nurse are nurses themselves, the setting in the hospitals and research in its process and findings.展开更多

The action research here is comprised of four types of sessions: clarification of wishes (1st session), meetings to talk about matters experienced, study meetings, and reflections (final session). In the first and final sessions, group interviews about ethical practices were conducted. Recorded data from the interviews and 4th meeting to talk about experiences were analyzed using WordMiner1.5. Participants had the individual need, “wish to improve understanding of ethics in their own skills to promote ethical practices and ethical interests”. Then, they became aware of “ethical practice in placing importance on the relationship with patients/their families and ethics attitudes as nurses”. This awareness was connected to “sharing ideas and information with medical staff, awareness of and action suitable for ethics issues, and increased interest in ethics issues”. Like this, the awareness of ethical practices has expanded from individuals to the relationship with patients/their families and sharing ideas with medical staff, and this has developed into self-development. The findings suggest the importance of an organizational culture that addresses ethics to improve practical ethics skills. The findings also suggest that it would be necessary for an organization to take long-term actions to addresses ethical issues in wards or hospitals.展开更多

文摘Background: Nurses are expected by their international code of ethics to advocate for patients to enhance safety and quality care. Nursing educational institutions and hospital managers can support, train, and equip nurses with the required skills for enhancing positive advocacy outcomes. .
文摘Objective: This study aimed to evaluate Chinese tertiary hospital nurses' research output, research ability, and their related training needs regarding scientific research methodology and analyze the relations among them. Methods: A nationwide survey was conducted in China on a large sample of tertiary hospital nurses (n =27,335) recruited from 22 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities.A validated,self-designed questionnaire, consisted of a common questionnaire, the Science Research Skills Self-Rating Questionnaire (SRSQ) and the Scientific Research Training Needs Questionnaire (SRTNQ) were used to assess nurses' research output,self-rated research skills and research-training needs. Results: The nurses' scientific research participation rates (with 4.13%,7.85%,5.35%,and 2.04% in research projects, research attendance, papers published, and patent, respectively) and their self-rated research skills 25.00 (12.50,37.50) were very low. However, the research training needs were relatively high 53.12(37.50,75.00).Significant differences in research participation rates (research projects, research attendance, papers published, and patent),scientific research skills, and research-training needs were determined by age, highest education level, nursing experience, employment, technical title, administrative post, and clinical tutoring experience (P< 0.05).Female and male nurses had different research participation rates (only research projects and studies published) and scientific research skills (P < 0.05).Positive correlations were observed among research output, scientific research skills, and researchtraining needs (P < 0.01).Conclusions: Nurses' scientific research participation and self-rated research ability were below the optimal despite that they had relatively high research-training needs.Nurses should be provided further research training with tailored content to their characteristics and capacity.

Conclusion: The implementation of refined nursing care for elderly patients with reflux esophagitis exhibited a significant effect on improving the patient’s psychological state, treatment compliance, and rehabilitation.
文摘BACKGROUND Patients with stroke frequently experience pulmonary dysfunction.AIM To explore the effects of information-motivation-behavioral(IMB)skills modelbased nursing care on pulmonary function, blood gas indices, complication rates, and quality of life(QoL)in stroke patients with pulmonary dysfunction.METHODS We conducted a controlled study involving 120 stroke patients with pulmonary dysfunction. The control group received routine care, whereas the intervention group received IMB-model-based nursing care.Various parameters including pulmonary function, blood gas indices, complication rates, and QoL were assessed before and after the intervention.RESULTS Baseline data of the control and intervention groups were comparable.Post-intervention,the IMB model-based care group showed significant improvements in pulmonary function indicators, forced expiratory volume in 1 sec, forced vital capacity, and peak expiratory flow compared with the control group.Blood gas indices, such as arterial oxygen pressure and arterial oxygen saturation, increased significantly, and arterial carbon dioxide partial.pressure decreased significantly in the IMB model-based care group compared with the control group. The intervention group also had a lower complication rate(6.67%vs 23.33%)and higher QoL scores across all domains than the control group.CONCLUSION IMB model-based nursing care significantly enhanced pulmonary function, improved blood gas indices, reduced complication rates, and improved the QoL of stroke patients with pulmonary dysfunction.Further research is needed to validate these results and to assess the long-term efficacy and broader applicability of the model.
文摘Background: Although the number of studies on research utilization is steadily growing, but still there is a strong need to identify the main causes that inhibit the use of research findings in the clinical setting. Conclusions: The main barriers of research utilization in practice for nurse are nurses themselves, the setting in the hospitals and research in its process and findings.
文摘The purpose of this study is to investigate how participation in action research will change nursing activities in dealing with ethical issues experienced in daily nursing settings of organ transplantation. The findings also suggest that it would be necessary for an organization to take long-term actions to addresses ethical issues in wards or hospitals.
