The maximum concentrations of C60(OH)n and C70(OH)n in the obtained SiO2 gels were estimated to be about 0.6% and 1.5% in weight, respectively. The characteristics of the UV/visible spectra of fullerenols in H2O and various gels were measured and compared. The thermal stability of fullerenols in gels was investigated with differential thermal analysis (DTA). The results indicate that the absorption features of fullerenols in solid gels are similar to those in H2O and the fullerenols in SiO2 are stable at 400℃. The optical limiting effect of the fullerenols was investigated preliminarily.展开更多

Cervical cancer cell line HeLa cells in vitro were treated with different concentrations of fullerenol, different concentrations of cisplatin, and different concentrations of fullerenol combined with cisplatin, after 24 h, 48 h, 72 h, microscope changes in cell morphology;MTT assay was used to determine the effect of drugs on the proliferation of HeLa cells. Fullerenol and cisplatin alone can inhibit the proliferation of HeLa cells in a dose-dependent and time-dependent manner;compared with cisplatin alone, different concentrations of fullerenol combined with cisplatin significantly increased the apoptosis rate of HeLa cells (P < 0.05). The inhibition of fullerenol combined with cisplatin on HeLa cells in vitro is more significant, resulting in a stronger anti-cancer effect.展开更多

In this study, the cytotoxicity of fullerene derivative, C60(OH)x, on Tetrahymena pyriformis was investigated. Cell growth inhibition was evaluated by counting with an optical microscope, and the generation time was calculated. It was indicated that the fullerenols caused a dose-dependent growth inhibition of the cells. The morphologic change in the damaged macronucleus of cells was observed using a fluorescent microscope. Superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-PX), and glutathione reductase (GR) levels were also measured for Tetrahymena pyriformis, using conventional methods. The results showed that fullerenols could reduce GSH-PX and GR activities. But no noticeable difference in SOD ac- tivity was observed between the treated groups and the control group. This indicated that the antiproliferative effect of fullerenols might be mediated by the reduction in the activities of GSH-PX and GR of cells and the destruction of the macronucleus.展开更多

The fullerenol exhibited high water solubility, up to 64.9 mg/mL, under neutral (pH = 7) conditions. Dynamic light-scattering (DES) analysis showed a narrow particle size distribution, of 1-2 nm, indicating that the fullerenol had high dispersion properties in water. The results of particle size analyses, which botll focused on a single nanoregion and were conducted using a novel induced grating (IG) method and a scanning probe microscope (SPM), were consistent with the DES results. A plausible reaction mechanism, which includes fullerene oxide intermediates detected by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS), has been proposed.展开更多

MFR, YI, TGA and OIT of all the samples were tested. According to the results of MFR, during the melt extrusion, fullerene showed excellent stability effect on PP. The antioxidative ability of fullerene was comparable to the traditional antioxidant 1010. The antioxidative ability of fullerenol was not significant in the first extrusion and it accelerated the degradation of PP in the second and the third extrusions. TGA and OIT tests showed that the stability effects of fullerene and fullerenol were slightly lower than antioxidant 1010. In the first time, antioxidant 168 was reported to show great synergistic effects with fullerene and fullerenol as antioxidants, which sussested a simple way to enhance the antioxidative abilities of fullerene and fullerenol.展开更多
