It is hypothesized that a company can utilize its pay system to direct executives' efforts toward its strategic business objectives, thus contributing to higher levels of corporate financial performance. The survey data consisted of a secondary and non-probabilistic sample of 44 Brazilian industrial companies. In order to operationalize the independent remuneration variable, the authors used average monthly salary, average variable salary, and three indices that were created for this survey: benefits, career, and development. These indices measure the access to benefits, mechanisms for stimulating and supporting careers, and mechanisms to encourage education and professional development that companies offer to their directors, vice presidents, and chief executive officers (CEOs), who are referred to in this paper by the term "executive". The remuneration data are from fiscal year 2006. In order to operationalize the financial performance variable, two accounting indicators were used: sales growth and return on equity (ROE) for fiscal years 2006 and 2007. The size of the companies was used as a control variable. The results of a multiple regression analysis do not support the hypothesis that there is a positive and significant relationship between executive compensation and corporate financial performance.展开更多

This study also interrogates whether companies with busy boards perform better or worse than non over-boarded companies. The incidence of multiple directorship on JSE is low, therefore the hypothesis is rejected at 5%. Over-boarded company directors attend significantly less board meetings. The Pearson correlation between connectedness and log-transformed financial ratios is not significant between all the six financial ratios. The study finds no difference in performance between over-boarded and non over-boarded companies, and no association between multiple directorships and company performance.展开更多

This study examined the impact of corporate governance mechanisms on family and non-family controlled companies' performance. The sample size of this study is 730 companies listed on Bursa Malaysia from 2003 to 2007. The findings reveal that corporate governance mechanisms influence the family and non-family controlled companies' performance. But not all corporate governance mechanisms are significant. The significant variables differ between family and non-family controlled companies. Thus, regulators need to be vigilant that family and non-family controlled companies practise differently and to set different code needed for each type of families.展开更多

It is characterized by small size, low penetration, and low density. Nevertheless, China’s large population, together with the emerging middle class, and the continuously improving social and economic environment, promise the life insurance industry a bright future. The government’s limited pension reserves cannot effectively deal with the aging problem, implying that commercial insurance companies are bound to play a more critical role in alleviating the aging problem. In 2014, Chinese government issued a series of favorable policies. Life insurance companies are now allowed to invest a certain proportion of premium in high risk issues and set the return on investment (ROI) of saving insurance products higher than 2.5%. Changes in external factors and policies prompt life insurance companies to change their operation mode so that they can meet the market demand. This paper empirically analyzes operational factors (such as structure of distribution channels, structure of products, human resource, market power, etc.) that affect the corporate performance of Chinese life insurance companies. The paper aims to help life insurance companies choose a proper distribution channel, focus marketing expenses and R&D on the right product, set the scale and the salesman team at a rational size, and adjust the compensation ratio to a rational level. The data are gathered from 36 high-ranked Chinese life insurance companies from 2010 to 2014. The panel data set is analyzed via fixed effect model and panel threshold model. To avoid spurious regression, a series of preliminary tests are conducted. The results show that percentage of revenue from bancassurance channel, percentage of revenue from specialized insurance agencies, percentage of revenue from saving product, percentage of revenue from group product, size of insurers, market share of insurers, and solvency rate all have negative effect on the corporate performance of life insurance companies. If an insurer were a subsidiary of a bank, its percentage of revenue from bancassureance would have a positive effect on its corporate performance. The paper contributes to existing literature on how particular distribution channels and products of Chines life insurance companies affect their corporate performance.展开更多

Using a case study methodology and focusing on the Italian context, this exploratory study, through a qualitative approach, interviewed two main cruise terminal concessionaires and indirectly observed events planned by cruise companies in sea ports selected for outlining the role of control systems, coordination, and knowledge sharing between the players in cruise events decision-making processes. The first results show that the cruise event management processes on ship berthing and on terminal are separated. The cruise companies don't involve terminal concessionaires in the event organization considering them only service suppliers Also, the concessionaires conceive the events planned in the cruise infrastructures as a business unit to optimize the space use, without any forms of coordination or control with cruise companies. Knowledge sharing, coordination, and control among the two players could support the planning, and management of "new cruise events" in which the visitors may be led from the infrastructure to the ships stopped on the quay. This study offers a set of key performance indicators to support the management, control, and coordination of each inter-organizational relationship identified. Managerial implications and suggestions for improving cruise events management have been provided.展开更多

The result shows that: The decline of company performance will cause the top executive turnover, and that the possibility of top executive turnover in non-state-owned listed companies is higher than that of the state-owned companies. In the routine turnover sample, the performance level of the internal succession is better than that of the external succession. In the non-routine turnover sample, the results are reversed. For further analysis, the main sources of the improvement for performance are items of below-the-line and non-recurring profit and loss, rather than the company's operating revenue.展开更多

These companies implement CRM systems to get loyal customer portfolio and maintain the sustainability of it. While they are building CRM strategies, they try to catch business excellence results like valuable marketing opportunities, improve customer value and customer satisfaction. CRM gained prominence as a marketing sub-discipline in the 1990s, fueled by publications like The One to One Future and The Loyalty Effect. Some studies were especially powerful in highlighting the gap between the cost of acquiring customers and retaining them. The quest for competitive advantage and profitability triggered a rush to implement CRM programs in enterprises both large and small in all comers of the globe. Different kinds of studies show that there are some key components which play a critical role in gaining success for companies which use CRM applications. At this situation, these key components are named as critical success factors. Purpose of this study is to find out that how these critical success factors affect results which show company performance. On this direction, critical success factors are defined as independent variable and company performance is defined as dependent variable. A supportive model is suggested. In order to verify proposed model, hypotheses are developed and a survey is applied in automotive sales agents in Turkey. The study is completed with survey results.展开更多
文摘This survey investigated the relationship between executive compensation and the financial performance of companies. The results of a multiple regression analysis do not support the hypothesis that there is a positive and significant relationship between executive compensation and corporate financial performance.

This study offers a set of key performance indicators to support the management, control, and coordination of each inter-organizational relationship identified. Managerial implications and suggestions for improving cruise events management have been provided.
文摘By using the data of the listed companies in Shanghai and Shenzhen stock market---a share market as a sample from 2003 to 2007 to analyze the relationship between corporation performance and top executive alteration, different succession modes get different efficiency. For further analysis, the main sources of the improvement for performance are items of below-the-line and non-recurring profit and loss, rather than the company's operating revenue.
