Descriptive IoT Based Design and Implementation of a 3-Input Automatic Transfer Switch with Data Logging Features

Electricity is crucial for critical sectors such as banking, healthcare, education, and business. However, in developing nations like Cameroon, persistent power fluctuations and outages present significant challenges, leading to communication disruptions, food spoilage, water supply interruptions, and financial losses. This study proposes a novel solution: a three-input automatic transfer switch integrated with Internet of Things (IoT) and data logging capabilities. The system automatically switches between three independent power sources based on priority and availability, employing electromechanical contactors, relays, and timers for seamless switching. It incorporates ATMEGA328P microcontrollers, a GSM module for communication, and an SD card module for efficient data logging. Safety measures, such as miniature circuit breakers, voltage monitoring relays, and proper grounding, ensure user protection and system integrity. A user-friendly mobile application enables remote manual switching and real-time system information requests, while SMS notifications inform consumers about power source changes. The system has a power rating of 4.752 kW, accommodating a maximum continuous load of the same value. Voltage dividers provide a reliable 3.37 VDC output from a 12 VDC input, and data logging operates effectively by storing system data onto an SD card every 1.5 seconds. Comprehensive testing validates the system’s performance, with an average percentage error of 2.31% compared to actual values, falling within an acceptable range. This solution distinguishes itself by incorporating modern technologies like data logging and IoT, addressing the limitations of existing alternatives. 展开更多

For example, many people have been victims of robbery on vehicles. A conceptual diagram of an Intrusion Detection System (IDS) [1] [2] for vehicles with remote signaling using an Arduino controller and radio-frequency technology is proposed in this paper. To address malicious activities on vehicles, two aspects are considered here, namely: notifier and detector. Firstly, an object-oriented C module that puts on and off a controller (installed inside the vehicle) and an anti-theft electronic editing that powered using an alternator and supported by a back-up battery are implemented. Secondly, a magnetic intrusion sensor, controlled by a proximity detector using radio-frequency technology, has been installed on each vehicle door. To enable IDS, a user needs to activate the monitoring system when leaving their vehicle. This is done using a remote system. In case the user does not activate the monitoring system while leaving the vehicle, a 5-meter-proximity detector will automatically lock the system and set off the monitoring system whenever the user is outside the detection zone. The detection zone is a 5-meter radius area centered at the controller. Here, monitoring consists of geolocating any intruders within the detection zone. This means, if any of the vehicle doors is opened while the system is still locked, the controller will activate the vehicle alarm for a few seconds, thereafter send an SMS notification to the owner. The system automatically unlocks as soon as the proximity detector is within the detection zone. The contribution of this paper, as compared to other similar work, is to reinforce the electronic implementation of IDS. 展开更多

In recent years,the conventional degrees of freedom in frequency and time have been fully used.It is difficult to further improve the performance of communication systems with such degrees of freedom.Orbital angular momentum(OAM),which provides a new degree of freedom for millimeter-wave(mmWave)wireless communication systems,has been recognized as a key enabling technique for future mobile communication networks.By combining OAM beams that have theoretically infinite and mutually orthogonal states with the generalized spatial modulation(GSM)strategy,a new OAM-GSM mmWave wireless communication system is designed in this paper.A bit error rate(BER)model of the OAM-GSM system is established based on channel flip precoding.The channel capacity,energy efficiency,and BER of the proposed OAM-GSM mmWave wireless communication system are simulated.Numerical results show that,compared with traditional GSM systems,the OAM-GSM system has more complex transmission and reception mechanisms but the channel capacity and maximum achievable energy efficiency are increased by 80%and 54%,respectively,and the BER drops by 91.5%. 展开更多
