The article evaluates the significance of global history in the study of slavery. This topic has been researched and understood by several researchers, who have analyzed various points of view on it.This article will explore how global history pertains to the study of slavery by collecting different instances from the worldwide history of slavery(Europe,Africa, and the Americas)by using the case study technique.Through the case study of slavery in a global context, the article seeks to have a clear impression of learning about slavery in greater depth. The article’s result illustrates that global history is important in understanding slavery since it shows a wide variety of slavery’s development in different locations. Finally, the article will broaden our understanding of slavery as a worldwide uneven process.Furthermore, the article may be used as a reference to comprehend how to evaluate slavery by taking different approaches into account, which encourages more individuals to explore new viewpoints and thinking concepts to contribute to the study of slavery. To some extent, the article is limited, because it only emphasizes the history of slavery after the medieval period, and it is worth mentioning that early slavery is not global circulation, which is not the main focus in this article.Future studies can investigate early history of slavery and compare with global history of slavery after 1500. 展开更多

The globalization of Chinese medicine, forged through successive waves of migration, cultural exchanges, and economic imperatives, constitutes a nuanced and intricate process with historical roots extending over millennia. It stands as the culmination of interconnected historical events that reverberated beyond the confines of China, emerging as a phenomenon characterized by the adjustment of Chinese medical theories, clinical practices, and materia medica to indigenous customs and healthcare traditions prevalent in both proximate and distant regions. In these glocalized processes, the global and the local intersect and mix. The frameworks of globalization and glocalization allow a critical interpretation of the many hybridizations that have shaped overseas Chinese medicine's history and present. 展开更多

In this essay I introduce“Moving Crops and the Scales of History,”an experimental project that proposes a new method for writing global history.Crops are a very special type of human artifact or technological product:living organisms literally rooted in their environments.Explanation of their historical trajectories therefore offers special challenges and opportunities.Working at the intersection of global history, agricultural history, and the histories of science and technology,“Moving Crops”develops the concept of cropscape to explore the dual nature of crops as rooted and moveable things, reconnecting local and global in history. 展开更多

The first part of the paper shows that in American and European academia, the field of intellectual history has continued to neglect the world outside of the West. The reasons for this Eurocentric bias are related to lasting hierarchies in the global landscape of historiography. To put it bluntly, Western scholars can afford to ignore historical approaches from other parts of the world, while the opposite is not the case. Whereas fields like subaltern studies have pointed at such problems, these hierarchies (and their historical roots ) have thus far hardly been considered in the debate about the future of intellectual history. In the second part, the paper outlines some important research agendas for the field of global intellectual history. For example, it argues that the transnational spread( and local adaptation) of Eurocentric ideas since the 19th century remains insufficiently understood. The same is true for the changing facets of international hierarchies of knowledge, which have continued to influence historical scholarship around the world up until the present day. 展开更多

The Great Mosque of Quanzhou, as a distinctive community center, bound its residents through religious, professional, and educational ties; it also linked the mosque community to other communities with bonds of shared Muslim identity and minority status. The Great Mosque was rebuilt in 1609 under the supervision of the Confucian scholar Li Guangjin. This significant event is evidence of a local elite fellowship in seventeenth-century Quanzhou consisting of three well-known Confucian scholars--Li Zhi, Li Guangjin, and He Qiaoyuan--who had close ties to their Muslim neighbors. They left meticulous records of merchants, particularly Muslim traders. This paper focuses on the fellowship among the three men in order to investigate Quanzhou's connections to the broader world of global commercial and religious networks and to look more closely at local community life. 展开更多

This lecture is concerned with some historical issues of "China," "territory, culture" and "identity" that are placed against the background of politics, culture and scholarship in contemporary China. I want to draw attention to the question of how historians understand and interpret "China." It addresses the following questions. First, where did the idea of "China" come from? and how did it become a topic of scholarly research? What kind of dilemmas does "China" confront in its current condition and historical interpretation? Second, how do various new historical theories and methods in international academic circles enrich our understanding of "China"? Third, how does China's history and reality challenge the theories of "empire" and "nation-state"? Fourth, is it possible to write "East Asian history"? Does "national history" prove still effective in describing China or East Asia? 展开更多
