Contrary to the claim that translation focuses only on reading and writing, this study presents anecdotal evidence showing that a learner-centered approach to translation can help foreign language students improve their speaking skill through group work, problem-solving, and cooperative learning. To this end, the paper presents practical examples of lexical, structural, textual, and cultural issues that students discussed in their process-oriented Arabic-English-Arabic pedagogical translation courses at the university level. The students were divided into groups of three or four to work together at all stages of the translation process. They spent most of the class time comprehending the source text, translating it, and discussing each other's target versions. In the remaining class time, the whole class discussed a target text translated by any one of the groups. The students were instructed to use English in their group and whole-class deliberations. They were also instructed to use the appropriate language functions, structures, and expressions to achieve objectivity in their arguments. The study calls for further empirical research to verify the usefulness of the proposed learner-centered translation-based technique of teaching speaking展开更多

Previous archival research on the value relevance of FCTAs has documented a weak or non-existent link between FCTAs and firm valuation (Pinto, 2005). The hypothesized reasons could reside in the econometric method employed, in the use of as-if numbers, and in the missing consideration of the differential effect that exchange rate changes have on firms of varying levels of capital intensiveness. This study adds to the existing literature by empirically testing the value relevance of as-reported FCTAs numbers in the earnings and book value model the Ohlson-like interacted model through panel data techniques. The main finding of this study is that as-reported FCTAs are significantly and incrementally value-relevant, when their parameter estimates are allowed to vary in the cross-section.展开更多

However, approaches for utilization of these costly collected data and translation of these?valuable results to inform and guide clinical disease prevention practice are?not well developed. In this paper we proposed a novel conceptual group/community disease prevention design strategy based on large cohort study data. Methods and Results: The data from participants (n = 3516;2056 women) aged 45 to 74 years and the diabetes risk prediction model from Strong Heart Study were used. The Strong Heart Study is a population-based cohort study of cardiovascular disease and its risk factors in American Indians. A conceptual group/community disease prevention design strategy based on large cohort data was initiated. The application of the proposed strategy for group diabetes prevention was illustrated. Discussion: The strategy may provide reasonable solutions to the prevention design issues. These issues include complex associations of a disease with its combined and correlated risk factors, individual differences, choosing intervention risk factors and setting their appropriate, attainable, gradual and adaptive goal levels for different subgroups, and assessing effectiveness of the prevention program. Conclusions: The strategy and methods shown in the illustration example can be analogously adopted and applied for other diseases preventions. The proposed strategy for a target group/community in a population provides a way to translate and apply epidemiological study results to clinical disease prevention practice.展开更多

It is characterized with learner-centre and group work, the subject evaluation which takes formative assessment as a main method in order to promote the enthusiasm and initiatives of students' learning as well as improve the teaching effect. The research shows that Self-assessment improves Ss' independent learning skills, peer assessment group work help students in active learning,self-and peer assessment motivate students' English learning. In a comparison of other classes which aren't involved in this innovation, the group of freshmen know better about their learning outcome in an objective manner and can improve their method of English learning. Over all,the project can train students' ability to solve problems independently, and raise their language communicative competence gradually.展开更多

Lau has studied the bounded linear operators T : L ∞(G) → L ∞(G) which commute with convolutions and translations. For a subspace H of L ∞(G), we know that M(L ∞(G),H), the Banach algebra of all bounded linear operators on L ∞(G) into H which commute with convolutions, has been studied by Pym and Lau. In this paper, we generalize these problems to L(K)*, the dual of a hypergroup algebra L(K) in a very general setting, i. e. we do not assume that K admits a Haar measure. It should be noted that these algebras include not only the group algebra L 1(G) but also most of the semigroup algebras. Compact hypergroups have a Haar measure, however, in general it is not known that every hypergroup has a Haar measure. The lack of the Haar measure and involution presents many difficulties; however, we succeed in getting some interesting results.展开更多

文摘In this paper, we define the notions of orbifold loop and orbifold road, with which, we reformulate the definition of orbifold fundamental group and deck translation group. We show that, for each orbifold, the orbifold fundamental group is isomorphic to the deck translation group.
