The responsible gene is a tumor suppressor, STK11/LKB1, on chromosome 19p13.3. PJS complicates with benign and malignant tumors in various organs. In gynecology, there has been a particular focus on complications of PJS with sex cord tumor with annular tubules (SCTAT) and minimal deviation adenocarcinoma (MDA), which are rare diseases. Approximately 36% of patients with SCTAT are complicated with PJS and these patients are characterized by multifocal, bilateral, small and benign lesions that develop into tumors with mucinous to serous ratios of 8:1. In addition, 10% of cases of MDA are complicated with PJS and mutation of STK11, the gene responsible for PJS, has a major effect on onset and prognosis. The disease concept of lobular endocervical glandular hyper-plasia (LEGH) has recently been proposed and LEGH is thought to be a potential premalignant lesion of MDA, however, the relationship between PJS and LEGH remains unclear. Several case reports of PJS patients complicated with gynecological tumors have been published and further studies are needed to determine the underlying展开更多

This practice has severe and long-lasting physical and mental health consequences. The aim of the study was to evaluate the different types of FGM;immediate and long-term complications associated with the practice, and identify factors related to its prevalence. Method: In a one-year cross-sectional hospital-based study, data were collected from females aged 18 - 50 with a history of FGM. Face-to-face semi-structured questionnaires were used for data collection. Data analysis was performed using SPSS version 26, utilizing univariate and bivariate analyses to identify correlations between variables, which were presented in tables. Results: In a study involving 255 female participants, 65.5% were between 18 and 30 years old. The majority (82.7%) were married, while 47.1% were illiterate. FGM cases were more prevalent in rural areas (61.6%). Among the participants, 45.1% were employed. Type 3 FGM was the most common (44.3%), followed by Type 2 (32.2%) and Type 1 (23.9%). In terms of short-term complications experienced by circumcised women, the most common were bleeding, reported by 29.8% of participants, followed by infection (25.1%), and urinary retention (19.2%). Among the long-term complications observed, recurrent vaginal infections were the most prevalent, affecting 29.8% of the surveyed females. This was episiotomy during delivery (22.3%) and genital scarring (10.2%). Conclusion: The study reveals that Type 3 FGM is highly prevalent among the surveyed females, contributing to an increased risk of recurrent vaginal infections, prolonged second stage of labor, higher likelihood of episiotomy during delivery, and genital scarring. These findings emphasize the urgent need for effective preventive strategies and implementation from both international and local organizations to eliminate the harmful practice of FGM.展开更多

Additionally, 2OCA features high viscosity allowing for better control during the application process, polymerization without the use of an external activator, and a distinctive violet color for ease of application visualization. Objective: The aim of this prospective case series is to descriptively report clinical data with the application of 2OCA as a topical incision closure system in female pelvic surgery. The primary outcomes included: incisional pain, incisional dehiscence, and post-operative bleeding. The secondary outcome included drying times of the adhesive with regard to incision length. Methods: A prospective open-label observational case series study was conducted to evaluate the use of 2OCA in surgical wound closure of the topical skin in adult patients undergoing gynecologic surgical procedures. A total of 50 adult women undergoing gynecologic surgery were enrolled. 2OCA was applied only by surgeons who had undergone product training to the incisions in a standardized, protocol-defined fashion. Drying times for the adhesive and photography were recorded intraoperatively. Post treatment follow-up was conducted with queries of pain level, incisional dehiscence, and incisional bleeding immediately post-operatively, 48 hours, 5 - 10 days and 14 days post-treatment. Adverse events were documented. Results: 2OCA was applied to a total of 154 incisions from the 50 patients enrolled to the study. The procedures included: 16 laparoscopic total hysterectomies, 4 diagnostic laparoscopies, 2 laparoscopic myomectomies, 2 laparoscopic bilateral or unilateral salpingo-oophorectomies, 5 total robotic-assisted laparoscopic surgeries (2 total hysterectomies, 1 supracervical hysterectomy, 1 sacrocolpopexy, and one excision of endometriosis), 7 sacral neuromodulation procedures, and 18 midurethral slings. The overall rate of incisional dehiscence was 3% (4/154). The rate of reported incisional bleeding was 3% (4/154). There was 1 incisional infection. The pain reports based on a 10-point scale had a mean of 4.96 immediately post-operatively, which decreased to a mean score < 1 (0.2) by post-op day (POD) 14. The mean drying times for the various lengths of incisions included the following: 1.28 minutes for incisions ≤ 5 mm, 1.53 minutes for 6 - 8 mm, 1.66 minutes for 10 mm - 20 mm, and 1.57 minutes for the 40 - 50 mm incisions. In 23% (36/154) of incisions 2OCA was the sole method of skin closure. Conclusion: This study demonstrates that 2OCA is safe to use in gynecologic surgical incisions with low rates of post-operative incisional bleeding and incisional dehiscence. Post-operative reports of pain maintained expected levels for recovery. 2OCA is a practical alternative or augmentation to traditional suture closure of skin incisions at the time of gynecologic surgery.展开更多

The results indicated that serum PZP levels in the normal pregnancy was detectable 5 weeks after gestation. It increased with the advance of gestational weeks, and reached a peak level in week 40. The serum PZP levels in 81.7% of patients with threatened abortion but not aborted were within the normal range, and also mostly in those with pregnancy-nduced hypertension, intrauterine growth retardation (IUGR), anencepbalus and ectopic pregnancy; the serum PZP levels in 51.6% of patients with invasive moles and 80.0% with choriocarcinoma, respectively, were lower than in normal controls. In gynaecological tumors, the serum PZP levels were significantly higher in patients with ovarian carcinomas than in those with other ovarian tumors (P<0.01), and in those with endometrial or cervical carcinoma than in those with uterine myomas (P<0.01). These results suggest that measuring the serum PZP levels may be used as an important reference index to observe threatened abortion and to identify trophoblastic diseases and gynecological tumors.展开更多

Female children of single parents are faced with many socio-economic challenges that make them vulnerable to sexual influences and prone to sexually transmitted infections. The goal of this work was to determine HIV p24 antigen/antibody, HSV-2 IgM and tumor necrosis factor-α plasma levels in adult female children living in single-parent households. Methods: In this case-control observational study, 100 adult female children living with a single parent (50 living with a single mother and 50 living with a single father;age: 18-22 years) and 100 age-matched women living with both parents were recruited to serve as the test and control groups, respectively. All subjects were negative for acid-fast bacilli, plasmodium, hepatitis C virus, and hepatitis B virus. Human tumor necrosis factor α, HSV-2 IgM, antibody to hepatitis C virus, hepatitis B surface antigen and human immunodeficiency virus p24 antigen and antibody (HIV p24 Ag/Ab) levels were determined by ELISA, while the detection of acid-fast bacilli in sputum andPlasmodium in blood was carried out by optical microscopy. This work was carried out in the Owo/Ose Federal Constituency in Ondo State that shares boundaries with Edo State. The study protocol was approved by the Research and Ethical Committee of the Department of Medical Laboratory Science, Achievers University, Owo, Nigeria (AUO/MLS/2020/127) on August 27, 2020.Results: HIV p24 Ag/Ab was detected in 0 adult female children living with a single mother, 1 (2%) adult female child living with a single father and 1 (1 %) adult female child living with both parents. HSV-2 IgM was detected in 9 (18%) adult female children living with a single mother, 13 (26%) adult female children living with a single father, and 5 (10%) adult female children living with both parents. Conclusion: This work shows that adult female children of single parents are vulnerable to sexual influences, and thereby more prone to HSV-2 and possibly HIV, especially adult female children of single fathers.展开更多

DNA ploidy was determined by flow cytometry.RESULTS: Of the 55 cases of GISTs, 53 cases (96.4%) expressed c-Kit protein. The c-Kit gene mutations of exons 11 and 9 were found in 30 (54.5%) and 7 cases (12.7%),respectively. No mutations were found in exons 13 and 17.DNA aneuploidy was seen in 10 cases (18.2%). The c-Kit mutation positive GISTs were larger in size than the negative GISTs. The aneuploidy tumors were statistically associated with large size, high mitotic counts, high risk groups, high cellularity and severe nuclear atypia, and epithelioid type. There was a tendency that c-Kit mutations were more frequently found in aneuploidy GISTs.CONCLUSION: DNA aneuploidy and c-Kit mutations can be considered as prognostic factors in GISTs.展开更多

Due to limited effectiveness when any anti-carcinogen is used alone and obviously increased toxicity when the dose is raised, there is no exception for As2O3. Furthermore, combined chemotherapy contributes to improve therapeutic effectiveness, disperse toxicity and surmount drug-resistance,in which the combination of traditional Chinese and modern medicine has more advantages and characteristics. As a result,we made an experimental study on anti-tumor effect of As2O3in combination with cisplantin (PDD) or doxorubicin (ADM)on HCC. to investigate the possibility of AS2O3 in combination with PDD or ADM and nature of interaction between them, and to provide experimental basis for clinical application.展开更多

METHODS:Multiple biomarkers (DNA contents,AgNOR, PCNA,p53,c-erbB-2) in 10 normal colorectal mucosae,37 colorectal adenomas and 55 colorectal cancers were analyzed quantitatively in the computed processing imaging system. Discrimination patterns were employed to evaluate the significance of single and multiple indices in diagnosis of colorectal cancers. RESULTS:The mean values of the analyzed parameters increased in order of the normal mucosa, adenoma and adenocarcinoma, and this tendency reflected the progression of colorectal malignancy. The parameters including DNA index, positive rates, densities of AgNOR,c-erbB-2,and p53, shape and density of nucleus were relatively valuable for diagnoses. Then a diagnostic discrimination model was established. The samples were confirmed with the model, the sensitivity rates in cancer group and adenoma group were 96.36% and 89.19%,respectively.The value of proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) in early diagnosis of colorectal cancers was uncertain. CONCLUSION:The quantitative evaluation of some parameters for colorectal tumor can provide reproducible data for differential diagnosis. The established diagnostic discrimination model may be of clinicopathological value, and can make the early diagnosis of colorectal cancer possible.展开更多

The results indicated that MS could enhance the proliferation of TIL,accelerate it to reach the exponential growth phase, and assist recombinant interleukin 2 (rIL-2) to enhance successively the percentage of CD3^+ positive cells, maintain the number of CD4^+ positive T cells, promote greatly the percentage of CD8^+ positive T cells among TILs, and reverse the CD4^+/CD8^+ ratio. Such cooperative effects rely on relative specificity of acupoints. It is suggested that MS is beneficial to the growth of TIL both in the aspects of proliferation and phenotypes.展开更多

The ER closely interacts with other organelles, including the Golgi body, endosome, membrane, and mitochondria, providing lipids and proteins for the repair of these organelles. ER stress can be induced by various abnormal materials in the cell. ER stress is a compensatory intracellular environment disorder that occurs during areaction. ER can sense the stress and respond to it through translational attenuation, upregulation of the genes for ER chaperones and related proteins, and degradation of unfolded proteins by a quality-control system, but excessive ER activation can cause cell death. The Pubmed and Web of Science databases were searched for full-text articles, and the terms "endoplasmic reticulum stress/unfolded protein response/gynecologic tumor cell apoptosis" were used as key words. Thirty-five studies of ER stress and unfolded protein response published from 2000 to 2016 were analyzed. Stress triggers apoptosis through a variety of signaling pathways. Increasing evidence has shown that the ER plays an important role in tumor cell diseases. The present review discusses the molecular mechanisms underlying unfolded protein response and its ability to promote survival and proliferation in gynecologic tumor cells.展开更多

Methods: From July 1965 to January 2005. we collected patients (n = 49) of gynecologic tumor complicated with haemorrhage during operations, who were divided into 3 groups: preventive blocking group (PG, n=12), treatment blocking group (TG, n = 20) used abdominal aorta block technique with sterilized cotton band and silica gel tube, and control group (CG, n = 17) which were used the regular haemostatic methods, such as ligature, suture and ribbon gauze packing. During operations, the vital signs including the amount of bleeding and transfusion were measured. Results: Compared with the CG, the amount of bleeding and transfusion in the PG and TG decreased significantly (P<0. 01). After using the technique, 32 cases of haemorrhage were controlled completely. All patients finished operation smoothly in the end and the vital signs were stable. The vision field of operation was clear and the operating time was shortened dramatically (3. 0 h vs 5. 7 h and 3. 8 h vs 5. 7 h, P< 0. 01). No complications caused by the block occurred in the post-operation. Conclusion: Lower abdominal aorta block is safe and effective in controlling haemorrhage during operations of the gynecologic tumor.展开更多

Patients and Method: Through a prospective and descriptive study over 4-years, we included girls aged less than 15 years admitted for a gynecologic tumor. We collected and analyzed the medical data, and paid particular attention to the pre-diagnosis history. Results: Eleven girls met our criteria with a mean age of 8.5 years (2 - 13 years). Abdominal pain, abdominal distension or protrusion of a vaginal mass was the main symptoms. The patients were seen at least by one doctor outside the surgical structure [1] [2] [3]. Four of eleven were received by two different doctors before carrying out the evocative radiological assessment. The average consultation delay was 7-months (24 hours to 18 months). There were nine ovarian tumors and two vaginal tumors. The histological study revealed five of eleven (45%) malignant tumors. Conclusion: Gynecological tumors in children are rare. However, there is a significant proportion of malignant tumors. All doctors can be confronted with it and should not delay the radiological assessment.展开更多
文摘Peutz-Jeghers syndrome (PJS) is an autosomal dominant disorder characterized by the development of hamartomatous polyposis in the gastrointestinal tract and melanin-pigmented macules on the skin mucosa. 文摘Emainly includes deep venous thrombosis(DVT)and pulmonary thromboembolism(PTE).DVT is caused by the thrombogenesis of red blood cells, platelets and fibrous protein which obstructs the venous backflow leading to inflam-matory changes in the wall of the vein.PTE is caused by the caducous blood clots of DVT that runs with the blood to the lungs.Because DVT and PTE are the venous thromboembolic disease process in two stages, the prevention of DVT and PTE is very important for preventing the rapid onset of PTE and high mortality rate of the postoperative complications. The changes of female hormones and the blood concentration and lipid metabolism disorders make venous thromboembolism more likely to occur during pregnancy.Once the pulmonary vessels were blocked, the patients’life would be threatened severely. To find a more effective way to prevent postoperative venous thrombosis in gynecology we review the prevention and treatment of deep venous thrombosis after gynecological surgery in this paper.

文摘Background: In Africa, female genital mutilation (FGM) is a widespread and harmful practice, with Somalia having the highest incidence at 98%. These findings emphasize the urgent need for effective preventive strategies and implementation from both international and local organizations to eliminate the harmful practice of FGM.
文摘Background: 2-octyl cyanoacrylate (2OCA) high viscosity tissue adhesive (Medline Industries, Inc., Mundelein, IL) is a liquid topical skin adhesive. 2OCA offers the same design features and clinical utility in terms of flexibility, strength, and low complication rate as the commercially available 2OCA tissue adhesives. 2OCA is a practical alternative or augmentation to traditional suture closure of skin incisions at the time of gynecologic surgery.
文摘In this study, the serum levels of the pregnancy zone protein (PZP) were determined by PZP-single radial immunodiffusion in 708 cases of normal pregnancy, 207 with abormal pregnancy and 188 with gynecological tumors. These results suggest that measuring the serum PZP levels may be used as an important reference index to observe threatened abortion and to identify trophoblastic diseases and gynecological tumors.
文摘Objective: Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) p24 antigen and antibody and herpes simplex virus 2 IgM are seromarkers indicating infection with HIV and herpes simplex virus-2 (HSV-2), respectively, whereas tumor necrosis factor α is an inflammatory biomarker that can be triggered by infections. Conclusion: This work shows that adult female children of single parents are vulnerable to sexual influences, and thereby more prone to HSV-2 and possibly HIV, especially adult female children of single fathers.
文摘BACKGROUND Having a gynecological tumor or undergoing treatment can be a traumatic experience for women,as it affects their self-image and sexual relationships and can lead to psychological reactions.Psychological adjustment following cancer occurrence remains a key issue among the survivors.AIM To examine the current status of quality of life(QoL),anxiety, and depression in patients with gynecological cancer and to analyze the factors associated with it.METHODS Data for 160 patients with gynecological malignancies treated at Shanxi Bethune Hospital from June 2020 to June 2023 were collected and analyzed retrospectively.Patients’QoL was assessed using the European Organization for Research on Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire Core 30 and the Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy-General Questionnaire.Their emotional status was evaluated using the Self-Rating Anxiety/Depression Scale. The associated factors of anxiety and depression were analyzed.RESULTS The overall QoL score of the patients 6 months after surgery was 76.39±3.63 points. This included low levels of social and emotional function and severe fatigue and pain. The scores for physiological, functional, emotional, social, and family well-being exhibited an upward trend following surgery compared with those before surgery. One month after surgery, some patients experienced anxiety and depression, with an incidence of 18.75%and 18.13%,respectively.Logistic analysis revealed that good sleep was a protective factor against anxiety and depression in patients with gynecological tumors, whereas physical pain was a risk factor.CONCLUSION Patients with gynecological malignancies often experience anxiety and depression.By analyzing the factors that affect patients’QoL,effective nursing measures can be administered.

文摘To study the clinicopathologic features and immunoprofile of angiomyofibroblastoma (AMF) with emphasis on differential diagnosis Methods Seven vulvar, two vaginal and one perineal angiomyofibroblastomas were evaluated by light microscopy and immunohistochemistry The immunohistochemical studies were performed on paraffin embedded sections using the standard ABC method with a panel of antibodies Results Angiomyofibroblastoma predominantly occurred in middle aged women in the genital region, especially in the superficial area of the vulva Clinically, most of the tumors presented as slowly growing painless masses and were often diagnosed as Bartholin's gland cysts Histologically, the tumors were all well circumscribed and characterized by alternating hypocellular and hypercellular areas with abundant thin walled blood vessels The tumor cells were bland and spindle shaped or epithelioid and tended to concentrate around the vessels or cluster in small nests Immunohistochemically, the tumor cells expressed vimentin and estrogen receptor protein in all 10 cases and desmin in 9 cases Three cases showed weak or focal immunoreactivity to alpha smooth muscle actin and muscle specific actin All ten patients were treated by local excision Follow up showed a benign course with no signs of recurrence Conclusions Angiomyofibroblastoma is a distinctive neoplasm that has a propensity to occur in the female genital tract Recognition of this entity is important to avoid misdiagnosis with other vulvar angiomyxoid neoplasms
文摘AIM: To investigate the prognostic significance of c-Kitgen emutation and DNA ploidy in gastointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs).METHODS: A total of 55 cases of GISTs were studied for the expression of c-Kit by immunohistochemistry, and the c-Kit gene mutations in exons 9, 11, 13, and 17 were detected by polymerase chain reaction-single strand confirmation polymarphism (PCR-SSCP) and denaturing high performance liquid chromatography (D-HPLC) techniques. There was a tendency that c-Kit mutations were more frequently found in aneuploidy GISTs.CONCLUSION: DNA aneuploidy and c-Kit mutations can be considered as prognostic factors in GISTs.

文摘INTRODUCTIONThe main component of a traditional Chinese drug 'Pishuang'. arsenic trioxide (As2O3), has obviously selective anti-tumor effect on human hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC)in both in vitro and in vivo studies[1-5]. As a result,we made an experimental study on anti-tumor effect of As2O3in combination with cisplantin (PDD) or doxorubicin (ADM)on HCC. to investigate the possibility of AS2O3 in combination with PDD or ADM and nature of interaction between them, and to provide experimental basis for clinical application.

文摘AIM:To evaluate the multiple biomarkers of colorectal tumor and their potential usage in early diagnosis of colorectal cancers. The established diagnostic discrimination model may be of clinicopathological value, and can make the early diagnosis of colorectal cancer possible.
文摘Tumor infiltrating lymphocytes (TIL) were cultured with “moxibustion serum”(MS), and the results were examined by flow cytometry. It is suggested that MS is beneficial to the growth of TIL both in the aspects of proliferation and phenotypes.
文摘Efficient functioning of the endoplasmic reticulum(ER) is very important for most cellular activities, such as protein folding and modification. The present review discusses the molecular mechanisms underlying unfolded protein response and its ability to promote survival and proliferation in gynecologic tumor cells.
文摘Objective:To evaluate the clinical effects of the abdominal aorta block in controlling haemorrhage during operations of the gynecologic tumor. Conclusion: Lower abdominal aorta block is safe and effective in controlling haemorrhage during operations of the gynecologic tumor.
文摘Introduction: Gynecologic tumors represent less than 5% of all solid tumors in children. All doctors can be confronted with it and should not delay the radiological assessment.
