A fusion model is employed to describe the tracked head by sampling the models of the fore-head and the back-head under different situations. Thus the fusion head reference model is represented by the color distribution estimated from both the fore- head and the back-head. The proposed tracking system is efficient and it is easy to realize the goal of continual tracking of the head by using the fusion model. The results show that the new tracker is robust up to a 360°rotation of the head on a cluttered background and the tracking precision is improved.展开更多

A time delay model for the telerobotic scout system is built. In respect of eliminating error caused by time delay and making reasonable prediction to the data stream, many methods are experimented in order to realize the aim of real time tracking. The application of extrapolation algorithm and auto recursive algorithm in the orientation tracking is described in detail. These two algorithms are realized in Matlab environment. Through analysis of the curves generated by using these two predictive algorithms, an appropriate method was applied in the telerobotic scout system. The effect is satisfying.展开更多

However, several challenges still remain in this area which is due to self-occlusions and the confusion between the left and right limbs during tracking. In this work,a head orientation detection step is introduced into the tracking framework to serve as a complementary tool to assist human pose estimation. With the face orientation determined, the system can decide whether the left or right side of the human body is exactly visible and infer the state of the symmetric counterpart. By granting a higher priority for the completely visible side, the system can avoid double counting to a great extent when inferring body poses. The proposed framework is evaluated on the HumanEva dataset. The results show that it largely reduces the occurrence of double counting and distinguishes the left and right sides consistently.展开更多

However, masticatory rhythm is crucial for masticatory performance and nutritional intake. This study aimed to explore the impact of using a maxillofacial prosthesis to restore masticatory rhythm in mandibulectomy patients with a novel wearable device. Methods: Twelve patients who underwent mandibulectomy and were rehabilitated with maxillofacial prosthesis were recruited. Chewing rate, cycle durations, coefficient of variation of cycle durations (CV), changing times of skin morphology on the back of the ear pinna area (SM), and masticatory performance were measured during gum chewing without and with a denture using a wearable jaw movement rhythm tracking device. A paired t-test and the Pearson correlation coefficient were used for statistical analysis. Results: The chewing rate increased by 8.6 cycles/min with dentures (P P = 0.01). The CV and SM decreased with dentures (P = 0.004 and P = 0.01, respectively). Significant correlations were found between the CV and SM without dentures (P = 0.004). Conclusion: 1. Wearing maxillofacial prostheses can improve masticatory rhythm in patients who undergo mandibulectomy with Eichner B2 occlusal supports. 2. The wearable device is available for measuring masticatory rhythm in patients with jaw defects in clinics. 3. Changing times of the skin morphology on the back of the ear pinna indicate jaw movement stability through a simpler process than the coefficient of variation of cycle durations.展开更多
