Specifically, nutritional interventions may have an impact on the hypothalamic-pituitary axis resulting in positive health outcomes. A retrospective health status survey of 386 respondents was conducted to investigate the potential of a dietary supplement, NutrifiiTM Renew, for improving various health outcomes in comparison to a multivitamin/mineral control group. Among those who ingested Renew, 95% reported experiencing at least some improvement in one or more health categories. Compared to the multivitamin/mineral group, the Renew group reported earlier and/or greater improvements in several health status categories including sleep, reproductive health, memory, energy/stamina, skin and hair quality, flexibility, exercise recovery and feeling rested in the morning. A clear majority (84.9%) of Renew consumers reported experiencing noticeable improvement in some aspect of their health within one month. Among those who felt an improvement in sleep, most reported experiencing a change within one week. These improvements were likely due to the synergistic effects of L-arginine, L-citrulline, L-lysine, and botanical extracts on nitric oxide production, growth hormone (GH) release, and sleep quality. The observed improvements in skin elasticity and hair growth may be related to increased GH levels and IGF-1 production. Overall, these findings suggest that Renew may have potential as a dietary intervention for improving various health outcomes beyond those provided by multivitamin/mineral supplementation alone. Further studies are needed to confirm these findings and elucidate the underlying mechanisms of action.展开更多

A multistage stratified random cluster-sampling method was used to enroll participants from the following three groups: children aged 3-5 years, adolescents aged 12 years, and people aged 65-74 years. In these three groups, the mean numbers of teeth that were affected by caries were 3.28, 0.86 and 5.13, respectively, resulting in a prevalence of 63.47%, 37.20% and 83.20%, respectively. Relative to the high rate of decayed teeth, the prevalence of fillings was very low in all age groups (0.97%, 7.24% and 5.43%, respectively), In the 12-year-old adolescent group, only 3.61% had good pit and fissure sealing. In addition, the rate of dental fluorosis was 24.80%, and the Community Fluorosis Index value was 0.39. In the elder group, the community periodontal index was 2.92. The prevalence in the elderly of having lost at least one tooth was 75.54%. Additionally, 4.44% of these participants were edentulous. The incidence of dental prosthesis was 51.75%, the proportion with a removable partial denture, a fixed denture, full dentures, dental implants and an informal fixed bridge was 21.59%, 11.45%, 4.64%, 0 and 16.67%, respectively. In this study, 8.2% of the elderly participants were affected by different types of oral mucosal lesions. Among such lesions, recurrent aphthous ulcers were most prevalent (2.69%) and oral lichen planuses were second (1.6%). The conclusion presented in this survey is that oral diseases, especially dental caries and periodontal disease, are frequent and common in Sichuan province, China. Moreover, the treatment rate is very low, and primary prevention and treatment options are therefore urgently needed in this population.展开更多

Children with SCD are affected by the deleterious effect of user fees which reduces affordability and utilization of health services. Evidences supported that institutionalized health insurance increases intensity of utilization. Methodology: The study was conducted at AKTH, Kano, and north-western, Nigeria. The study was retrospective comparative cross-sectional study. 100 patients were enrolled, 50 for each arm. Paediatric SCD clinic outpatients’ records and a specialty designed form containing the variables of interest were used. Data were analysed using Minitab 16. Proportions, percentages, tables, charts and chi squared test were used to compare the two groups. Result: The study found no association between the two groups in the likelihood of being insured based on age (χ2 = 1.478), gender (χ2 = 0.224) and dwellings (χ2 = 0.062). On health services utilization and insurance status, the study revealed that follow up clinic visits, unscheduled clinic visits and emergency room visits were more likely among the insured group compared to the uninsured group. While the health status and insurance status of the two groups over 12 months period showed a significant association with the insured more likely to have improved health status compared to uninsured (χ2 = 28.019, p = 0.0001). Similarly, health status and health services utilization were significantly associated with insurance status (χ2 = 12.191, p = 0.002). Conclusion: The insurance status of children with SCD is associated with their health services utilization and health status. However, age, gender and dwellings were not associated with insurance status of children with SCD. Therefore, when expanding insurance coverage (NHIS) among children with SCD considerations have to be given to increase health services utilization and resultant improvement in health status as these have the potential of reducing morbidity and mortality among children with SCD.展开更多

To 197 medical university students, we administered a set of self-reporting questionnaires designed to evaluate these parameters. For males, smartphone dependence positively correlated with somatic symptoms, anxiety and insomnia, and emotional instability, and negatively correlated with agreeableness. For females, smartphone dependence positively correlated with somatic symptoms, severe depression, and extraversion, and negatively correlated with social dysfunction. These findings suggest that smartphone dependence may be associated with general health status or personality traits and that there may be a gender difference in these associations.展开更多

Studies on the association between smoking and health related quality of life (HRQL) are scarce in Brazil and Latin America. The aim of this study was to analyze the HRQL according to smoking status on adults aged 20 to 59 years, living in Campinas, Brazil. Method: It is a population-based cross-sectional study, carried out with data from the Campinas Health Survey developed in 2008/2009. The dependent variables were the eight scales and the two components—physical (PCS) and mental component summary (MCS) of the instrument SF-36, version 2. Means and confidence intervals of the SF-36 scale scores and components were estimated according to smoking (never smokers, former smokers, current smokers) and nicotine dependence (mild, moderate, heavy). Results: The sample comprised 957 individuals (mean age of 37.5 years). Comparing with never smokers, smokers had lower score means in all SF-36 scales, except in physical functioning and role-physical;among the former smokers, lower scores were observed in vitality and mental health. A reduction of the MCS score was observed among smokers and former smokers among men;but in the female population, this reduction was observed only in smokers compared with never smokers. According to the nicotine dependence, it was observed an increasing reduction in MCS scores from mild, to moderate and heavy smokers. Conclusion: Smoking is significantly and negatively associated with HRQL in the studied population. The results point out the importance of the strategic policies against smoking, to reduce morbidity and premature death, but also to increase the quality of life and well-being. It is also important to consider the mental health dimension, since that best mental health can be relevant to promote healthier behaviors.展开更多

Cancer-specific survival probabilities at 5 and 10 years after diagnosis were estimated using the Kaplan-Meier method. Log-rank test was used to compare long-term survival with different characteristics. Multivariable Cox proportional hazard regression model was used to examine the relative effect of insurance status on cancer-specific mortality. Results: Well-insured NSCLC patients have longer cancer-specific survival than poorly-insured individuals[hazard ratio(HR)=0.81;95% confidence interval(95% CI): 0.67-0.97), even after adjusting for age, gender, cancer stage, smoking status, family history and residential area. Older age and rural residence were associated with a higher risk of cancer-specific mortality(HR=1.03;95% CI: 1.02-1.03 and HR=1.25;95% CI: 1.07-1.46,respectively). Smoking individuals had a 41% higher long-term cancer-specific mortality risk than non-smoking ones(HR=1.41;95% CI: 1.20-1.66).Conclusions: NSCLC patients with good insurance status had better survival rates than those with poor insurance. An association was significant even after 10 years. Large population-based studies are needed to validate that high reimbursement insurance status can lead to the improvement of long-term cancer prognosis in China.展开更多

文摘Dietary factors play an important role in human health. Further studies are needed to confirm these findings and elucidate the underlying mechanisms of action.

Moreover, the treatment rate is very low, and primary prevention and treatment options are therefore urgently needed in this population.

文摘BACKGROUND Little is known about health status and quality of life(QoL)after implantable cardioverter-defibrillator(ICD)generator exchange(GE).METHODS We prospectively followed patients undergoing first-time ICD GE.Serial assessments of health status were performed by administering the 36-Item Short Form Survey(SF-36).RESULTS Mean age was 67.5±14.3 years, left ventricle ejection fraction(LVEF)was 36.5%±15.0%and over 40%of the cohort had improved LVEF to>35%at the time of GE.SF-36 scores were significantly worse in physical/general health domains compared to domains of emotional/social well-being(P<0.001 for each comparison).Physical health scores were significantly worse among those with medical comorbidities including diabetes, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and atrial fibrillation.Mean follow-up was 1.6±0.5 years after GE.Overall SF-36 scores remained stable across all domains during follow-up.Survival at 3 years post-GE was estimated at 80%.Five patients died during follow-up and most deaths were adjudicated as non-arrhythmic in origin.Four patients experienced appropriate ICD shocks after GE,three of whom had LVEF which remains impaired LVEF(i.e.,<35%)at the time of GE.CONCLUSION Patients undergoing ICD GE have significantly worse physical health compared to emotional/social well-being,which is associated with the presence of medical comorbidities. In terms of clinical outcomes, the incidence of appropriate shocks after GE among those with improvement in LVEF is very low,and most deaths post-procedure appear to be non-arrhythmic in origin. These data represent an attempt to more fully characterize the spectrum of QoL and clinical outcomes after GE.
文摘Introduction: Nigeria accounts for 150,000 infants born with the Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) every year. Therefore, when expanding insurance coverage (NHIS) among children with SCD considerations have to be given to increase health services utilization and resultant improvement in health status as these have the potential of reducing morbidity and mortality among children with SCD.

文摘The axial piston pump usually works under variable speed conditions. It is important to evaluate the health status of the axial piston pump under the variable speed condition.Aiming at the characteristic signals obtained under different wear levels of the port plate,a feature signal extraction method under variable speed conditions is proposed.Firstly, the combination of complete ensemble empirical mode decomposition with adaptive noise(CEEMDAN)energy spectrum and fast spectral kurtosis principle is used to accurately extract the intrinsic mode function(IMF)component containing the sensitive information of the degraded feature. Then, the aspect ratio analysis method of the angle domain variational mode decomposition(VMD)is used to process the feature index containing the sensitive information of the degraded feature. In order to evaluate the health status of the axial piston pump under variable speed, the vibration reliability analysis method for axial piston pump based on Weibull proportional failure rate model is proposed. The experimental results show that the proposed method can accurately evaluate the health status of the axial piston pump.
文摘We investigated associations between smartphone dependence and general health status or personality traits. These findings suggest that smartphone dependence may be associated with general health status or personality traits and that there may be a gender difference in these associations.
文摘BACKGROUND Lung resection represents the main curative treatment modality of non-small cell lung cancer.Patients with high-risk to develop postoperative pulmonary complications have been classified as“high-risk patients.”Characterizing this population could be important to improve their approach and rehabilitation.AIM To identify the differences between high and low-risk patients in exercise capacity and self-perceived health status after hospitalization.METHODS A longitudinal observational prospective cohort study was carried out.Patients undergoing lung resection were recruited from the“Hospital Virgen de las Nieves”(Granada)and divided into two groups according to the risk profile criteria(age≥70 years, forced expiratory volume in 1 s≤70%predicted,carbon monoxide diffusion capacity≤70%predicted or scheduled pneumonectomy).Outcomes included were exercise capacity(Fatigue Severity Scale,Unsupported Upper-Limb Exercise, handgrip dynamometry,Five Sit-to-stand test, and quadriceps hand-held dynamometry)and patient-reported outcome(Euroqol-5 dimensions 5 Levels Visual Analogue Scale).RESULTS In total,115 participants were included in the study and divided into three groups:high-risk,low-risk and control group. At discharge high-risk patients presented a poorer exercise capacity and a worse self-perceived health status(P<0.05).One month after discharge patients in the high-risk group maintained these differences compared to the other groups.CONCLUSION Our results show a poorer recovery in high-risk patients at discharge and 1 mo after surgery, with lower self-perceived health status and a poorer upper and lower limb exercise capacity. These results are important in the rehabilitation field.

文摘A health status assessment method based on cross entropy and support vector machine(SVM)is proposed for the new urban rail vehicle traction systems.First,an index system for health assessment of the traction system is established, and combined weights of the index layer are obtained via cross entropy. Then,an SVM assessment model considering actual operating data and each status level of the traction system is established. Finally, the model is simulated in Matlab to obtain assessment results. The results indicate that the proposed method can provide the health status information of the traction system intuitively and complete the health status assessment of the traction system of the new urban rail vehicle effectively,by exploiting the traction system’s layered analysis model. The health status can be assessed accurately and reliably by adopting the cross entropy theory and SVM theory.

文摘Using Chinese General Social Survey(CGSS)in 2005,2008 and 2013,this study investigates health determinants and health inequality in China. The ordinal complementary log-log model is used firstly to examine the impact of individual and contextual factors on self-rated health status. The study further checks the health inequality among subgroups divided by health determinants considered in the determinant model. We find that there are significant gender, residential, ethnic, socioeconomic, emotional, regional, and periodic differences. Moreover, the health status of sub-groups defined by factors used in this research is affected by health determinants in different ways which indicates the impact of these health determinants on health is moderated by each other. We conclude that while the health status generally varies with individual factors and social contexts, each group characterized by individual and contextual features has its own unique needs to improve and maintain their health status in China. The public policies aiming to increase Chinese health status and reduce health inequality must pay close attention to these needs while equalizing the availability, accessibility, and affordability of health facilities and health care system.

文摘The present study sampled the intestinal content of healthy and unhealthy Atlantic salmon( Salmo salar L.), the ambient water of unhealthy fish, and the biofilter material in the recirculating aquaculture system(RAS) to understand differences in the intestinal microbiota. The V4–V5 regions of the prokaryotic 16 S r RNA genes in the samples were analyzed by Mi Seq high-throughput sequencing. The fish were adults with no differences in body length or weight. Representative members of the intestinal microbiota were identified. The intestinal microbiota of the healthy fishincluded Proteobacteria(44.33%), Actinobacteria(17.89%), Bacteroidetes(15.25%), and Firmicutes(9.11%), among which the families Micrococcaceae and Oxalobacteraceae and genera S phingomonas, Streptomyces, Pedobacter, Janthinobacterium, Burkholderia, and Balneimonas were most abundant. Proteobacteria(70.46%), Bacteroidetes(7.59%), and Firmicutes(7.55%) dominated the microbiota of unhealthy fish, and Chloroflexi(2.71%), and Aliivibrio and Vibrio as well as genera in the family Aeromonadaceae were most strongly represented. Overall, the intestinal hindgut microbiota differed between healthy and unhealthy fish. This study off ers a useful tool for monitoring the health status of fish and for screening the utility of probiotics by studying the intestinal microbiota.

文摘Introduction: Smoking persists as a global and relevant health problem being one of the major risk factors to non-communicable diseases and early death. It is also important to consider the mental health dimension, since that best mental health can be relevant to promote healthier behaviors.

文摘Objective: To evaluate the effects of health insurance status on long-term cancer-specific survival of non-small cell lung cancer(NSCLC) in Beijing, China, using a population-based cancer registry data. Methods: Information on NSCLC patients diagnosed in 2008 was derived from the Beijing Cancer Registry. The medical records of 1,134 cases were sampled and re-surveyed to obtain information on potential risk factors.Poorly-insured status was defined as Uninsured and New Rural Cooperative Medical Insurance Scheme(NRCMS),while well-insured included Urban Employees Basic Medical Insurance(UEBMI) and Free Medical Care(FMC).To estimate survival outcomes, individuals were followed-up until December 31, 2018. Large population-based studies are needed to validate that high reimbursement insurance status can lead to the improvement of long-term cancer prognosis in China.
