The well-designed composite with satisfactory electromagnetic microwave absorption at high temperatures remains a serious challenge.Herein,we fabricated a resorcinol-formaldehyde/silica dioxide composite aerogel(RF/SiO_(2))with a three-dimensional network structure using sol-gel,atmospheric pressure drying technique as well as heat-treated processes to achieve enhanced microwave absorption capabilities in the low frequency range.The pristine RF/SiO_(2)aerogel presented a typical micropores structure with a surface area,porous volume,and density of 146.82 m^(2)/g,62.40%,and 0.28 cm^(3)/g,respectively.Remarkably,the RF/SiO_(2)aerogel showed an effective absorption bandwidth of 3.56 GHz and a minimum reflection loss value of-46.10 d B at 2.25 mm after being heat-treated at 1500°C,while the maximum effective absorption bandwidth was 3.60 GHz at 2.30 mm.The intricate three-dimensional networks possessed remarkable impedance matching,multiple attenuation mechanisms,interfacial polarization,and dielectric loss,which were attributed to the exceptional ability to absorb electromagnetic microwaves.It offered a fresh approach to creating adaptable and effective microwave absorption materials in military defense. 展开更多

Ti(C, N)-based cermets were treated using hot isostatic pressing (HIP) at 1423 K in nitrogen. The microstructures compared with the as-sintered cermets were investigated using X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray analysis, and electron microprobe analysis. It was found that high nitrogen activity in the surface zone resulted in the formation of gradient structure. Approximately 20-1am-deep, nitrogen-rich and titanium-rich hard surface zone was introduced by the heat treatment. The nitrogen activity was the driving force that caused the transportation of the atoms through the binder, titanium towards the surface, and tungsten and molybdenum inwards. In the surface zone, the particle size became fine, the inner rim disappeared, and the volume fraction of the outer rim and the binder phase considerably reduced. Small grains of TiN, WC, Mo2C, and nitrogen-rich carbonitlide phases formed in the surface zone during the heat treatment, improving the tlibological property of the heat-treated cermet. 展开更多

In this study,the effects of Ca addition on the microstructure,thermal properties,and mechanical properties of a Mg-6.0Zn-1.2Y-0.7Zr(ZWK611)alloy at room temperature and 150℃ were investigated.With an increase in the Ca content,the ignition resistance of the ZWK611 alloy improved and the grains became finer.The as-cast ZWK611 alloy consisted mainly of the dendriticα-Mg matrix and I-phase(Mg_(3)Zn_(6)Y)at the grain boundaries.On the other hand,theτ-(Ca_(2)Mg_(6)Zn_(3))and I-phases were formed in the Ca-added ZWK611 alloy.The fraction of theτ-phase increased with an increase in the Ca content.After the solid-solution treatment,these phases remained partially at the grain boundaries of the Ca-added ZWK611 alloys and an additional W-phase(Mg_(3)Zn_(3)Y)was observed.The phases remaining at the grain boundaries restricted the grain growth through the grain boundary pinning effect.The aging treatment resulted in the formation of MgZn'precipitates in theα-Mg matrix of the alloys.These precipitates were more uniformly distributed in the Ca-added alloys than in the alloys without Ca.Thus,the heat treatment-induced precipitation improved the tensile and creep properties of the T6-treated alloys.The T6-treated ZWK611+0.7Ca alloy exhibited the best mechanical properties at room temperature and 150℃ among all the tested alloys. 展开更多

In this study,the durability of rubber wood(Hevea brasiliensis) which was thermally treated at 170,185,200,and 215℃for 3 h respectively was investigated.The results showed that the durability of heat-treated rubber wood was improved,and the improvement became more obvious with the increase of the treating temperature. When treated at 185℃or lower temperature,the decay resistance of treated wood had no significant improvement.The lowest weight losses were 21.6%and 6.8%after attack by brown rot fungi(Gloeophyllum trabeum) and white rot fungi (Coriolus versicolor) respectively,which were reached by the specimens treated at 215℃.Their resistance to mold fungi was not improved,but the heat-treated wood performed better than untreated wood when both were painted.In field test,the heat-treated specimens exhibited no advantage in termite resistance compared to untreated. 展开更多

The as-sprayed coatings were heat-treated at the temperature of 573, 873, and 1 023 K, respectively. The crystallization and wear behavior of the heat-treated amorphous coatings were investigated. It was found that the amorphous- nanocrystalline transformation appeared when the as-sprayed coatings were treated at 853 K. The crystallization process had completed and a coating with microcrystallines was formed when the treatment temperature reached 1 023 K. The resultant amorphous and nanocrystalline composite coatings exhibited superior wear resistance compared to crystalline coating. It is attributed to fine grain strengthening of formed nanocrystallines. 展开更多

Pinus massoniana wood was modified by steam heat-treatment at 160℃,180℃,200℃ and 220℃ respectively and effects of the changes of density,pH,surface wettability and apparent morphology of Pinus massoniana heat-treated wood on its bonding performance were studied in this paper.The results showed that Pinus massoniana wood underwent a series of physical and chemical changes during heat-treatment as the the following:(1)The degradation of hemicellulose and cellulose with low degree of polymerization,degradation and migration of the extract resulting in the decline of density and pH of heat-treated Pinus massoniana wood.(2)Brittle fracture occured on the cell wall surface,and the pit collapse,shrink and deformation,resulting in the formation of roughness and porosity on the wood surface.(3)The surface energy decreased with the improvement of temperature,the surface wettability of Pinus massoniana wood treated at 160℃–180℃ was good,while that at 200℃–220℃ showed hydrophobicity.(4)Changes of density,pH,surface roughness and porosity,and wettability resulted in a reduction in the bonding strength and reliability of heat-treated Pinus massoniana wood with MUF resin adhesive.(5)When the temperature was at 160℃–180℃,the better wettability of heat-treated Pinus massoniana wood could guarantee the better bonding performance. 展开更多

Homogeneous HA coating materials were prepared on porous titanium by the low-temperature combustion synthesis. It was found that the mechanical properties of the specimen depend on the coating process and the heat treatment, and the bending strength would be reduced during the coating process but could be improved by heat treatment. The effects of the temperature during heat- treatment on the phase composition and microstructure of the as-prepared coating, and the bending strength of the specimen were investigated by XRD and SEM. The experimental results show that in the coating process, slight oxidation of the substrate may give rise to a drop in bending strength ; however, it could be increased by the reaction of HA and TiO2 , and the sintering of the coating during heat treatment. The HA particles in the coating, with very fine sized particles. were pretty active and would decompose at 800℃. 展开更多

The results reveal that the mechanical properties and high temperature oxidation resistance of the composite of ivhich additives composition approaches the eutectic point of Y2O3-SiO2 can be improved through the heat-treatment. Glass phase in the grain boundary is observed to react with the surface composition of AlN forming fibrous 2Hδ Sialon, resulting a crossing structure produced by fibrous 2Hδ Sialon and SiC whiskers. 展开更多

Enhancement of oxidative stability of canola oil extracted from seed subjected to prior heat-treatment has been attributed to heat-induced generation of antioxidants from phenolic precursors occurring in canola seed. Dispersion of aqueous extracts of intact seed oil bodies (OBs) in water is a novel and interesting way of producing natural and oxidatively stable food emulsions with minimal use of synthetic antioxidants and emulsifiers. As there is growing interest in natural food emulsions containing unsaturated oils, we investigated whether the oxidative stability of canola OB emulsions could be further improved by subjecting canola seed to heat-treatment prior to oil body extraction. Oil-in-water (5%, w/w) emulsions of OBs extracted from canola seed before and after heat-treatment were considerably more resistant to oxidation than emulsions prepared from refined canola oil and Tween? 40 emulsifier. However, only small amounts (0.9% - 4.5% by weight) of the phenolic compounds present in canola seed were transferred to the OBs after aqueous extraction, and consequently there was no discernible effect on oxidative stability as a result of prior heat-treatment of the seed. Thus, in contrast to oil, there is no oxidative stability benefit to be gained by subjecting canola seed to heat-treatment prior to extraction of OBs. 展开更多

Advanced glycation end products(AGEs)are a heterogeneous collection of compounds formed during industrial processing and home cooking through a sequence of nonenzymatic glycation reactions.The modern western diet is full of heat-treated foods that contribute to AGE intake.Foods high in AGEs in the contemporary diet include processed cereal products.Due to industrialization and marketing strategies,restaurant meals are modified rather than being traditionally or conventionally cooked.Fried,grilled,baked,and boiled foods have the greatest AGE levels.Higher AGE-content foods include dry nuts,roasted walnuts,sunflower seeds,fried chicken,bacon,and beef.Animal proteins and processed plant foods contain furosine,acrylamide,heterocyclic amines,and 5-hydroxymethylfurfural.Furosine(2-furoil-methyl-lysine)is an amino acid found in cooked meat products and other processed foods.High concentrations of carboxymethyl-lysine,carboxyethyl-lysine,and methylglyoxal-O are found in heat-treated nonvegetarian foods,peanut butter,and cereal items.Increased plasma levels of AGEs,which are harmful chemicals that lead to age-related diseases and physiological aging,diabetes,and autoimmune/inflammatory rheumatic diseases such as systemic lupus erythematosus and rheumatoid arthritis.AGEs in the pathophysiology of metabolic diseases have been linked to individuals with diabetes mellitus who have peripheral nerves with high amounts of AGEs and diabetes has been linked to increased myelin glycation.Insulin resistance and hyperglycemia can impact numerous human tissues and organs,leading to long-term difficulties in a number of systems and organs,including the cardiovascular system.Plasma AGE levels are linked to all-cause mortality in individuals with diabetes who have fatal or nonfatal coronary artery disease,such as ventricular dysfunction.High levels of tissue AGEs are independently associated with cardiac systolic dysfunction in diabetic patients with heart failure compared with diabetic patients without heart failure.It is widely recognized that AGEs and oxidative stress play a key role in the cardiovascular complications of diabetes because they both influence and are impacted by oxidative stress.All chronic illnesses involve protein,lipid,or nucleic acid modifications including crosslinked and nondegradable aggregates known as AGEs.Endogenous AGE formation or dietary AGE uptake can result in additional protein modifications and stimulation of several inflammatory signaling pathways.Many of these systems,however,require additional explanation because they are not entirely obvious.This review summarizes the current evidence regarding dietary sources of AGEs and metabolism-related complications associated with AGEs. 展开更多

When liquid steel slag produced from steelmaking process was treated into the post-cold slag by conventional methods,the great deal of slag heat was dissipated into the environment,causing a lot of energy waste and environmental pollution.In this study,a novel approach of direct utilization of hot steel slag as a raw material and slag heat for the production of glass-ceramics was proposed and experimentally tested.In order to simulate liquid slag from steelmaking electric furnace,40%water-quenched slag was remelted at 1 450℃and then mixed with 60%melting additives(silica powder,alumina powder and sodium oxide, etc.)and subsequently melted together at 1 500℃for 1 h into modified liquid slag which was cast,heat-treated, annealed and transformed into glass-ceramics.The heat-treated glass samples were investigated using differential thermal analysis(DTA),X-ray diffraction(XRD),and scanning electron microscopy(SEM). The results show that dominant crystalline phase is diopside[CaFe(SiO_3)_2]and the shape of the crystal is like the granule,diameter is about 0.2 -0.6μm.A glass-ceramic with nucleation temperature of 695℃for two hours and crystallization temperature of 893℃for one hour and 1 163℃for half-hour exhibited the best combination of properties.This method of slag mixed with melting additives to adjust the composition of the parent glass is important for the industrial production of glass-ceramics by direct utilization of hot steel slag. 展开更多

Silica aerogels were prepared at ambient drying by using ethanol/trimethylchlorosilane (TMCS)/heptane solution as pore water exchange and surface modification of the wet gel before drying. The obtained silica aerogels exhibit a sponge-like structure with uniform pore size distribution. The effects of heat-treatment on the hydrophobicity, specific surface area and other properties were investigated. The results indicated that the hydrophobicity of silica aerogels could be maintained up to 350℃. With increasing heating temperature, hydrophobicity decreased, and became completely hydrophilic after heat-treatment at 500℃. Brunaueremmitt-teller (BET) surface area results indicated that the specific surface area of silica aerogels increased with increasing heating temperature in the range of 150-500℃. The effects of heat-treatment on the morphology and chemical bonding state of silica aerogels were investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), differential temperature analysis (DTA) and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). 展开更多

In this case, the ceramics have the highest electromechanical coupling coefficients and mechanical quality factor and the least dielectric loss. The typical magnetic domains of Sm(CObalFe0.25Cuo.07Zr0.02)7.4 magnets quenched through various heattreatment steps have been revealed by using magnetic force microscopy (MFM). For the specimens in which the nominal c-axis is perpendicular to the imaging plane, the domain configurations change from plate-like for the as-sintered magnet to corrugation and spike-like for the homogenized one, and then to a coarse and finally to a finer domain structure when isothermally aged at 830℃ and then annealed at 400℃. However, only plate-like domains can be detected on the surfaces with the nominal c-axis parallel to the imaging plane. The finer domain (so-called interaction domain) is a characteristic magnetic domain pattern of the SmCo 2:IT-type magnets with high coercivities. Domain walls in a zigzag shape are revealed by means of MFM in final bulk SraCo 2:17-type sintered magnets. 展开更多

Thermomechanical cyclic quenching and tempering(TMCT)can strengthen steels through a grain size reduction mechanism.The effect of TMCT on microstructure,mechanical,and electrochemical properties of AISI 1345 steel was investigated.Steel samples heated to 1050℃,rolled,quenched to room temperature,and subjected to various cyclic quenching and tempering heat treatments were named TMCT-1,TMCT-2,and TMCT-3 samples,respectively.Microstructure analysis revealed that microstructures of all the treated samples contained packets and blocks of well-refined lath-shaped martensite and retained austenite phases with varying grain sizes(2.8–7.9μm).Among all the tested samples,TMCT-3 sample offered an optimum combination of properties by showing an improvement of 40%in tensile strength and reduced 34%elongation compared with the non-treated sample.Nanoindentation results were in good agreement with mechanical tests as the TMCT-3 sample exhibited a 51%improvement in indentation hardness with almost identical reduced elastic modulus compared with the non-treated sample.The electrochemical properties were analyzed in 0.1 M NaHCO_(3) solution by potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy.As a result of TMCT,the minimum corrosion rate was 0.272 mm/a,which was twenty times less than that of the nontreated sample.The impedance results showed the barrier film mechanism,which was confirmed by the polarization results as the current density decreased. 展开更多

The corrosion behaviors of a basic type of RE-containing magnesium alloy Mg-15Y processed by different heat treatment methods were studied in 3.5% NaC1 solution at room temperature. The amount of Mg24Y5 phase decreased with the extending of homogenization treatment. The time for achieving dissolving equilibrium of homogenization treatment at 525, 535, and 545 ℃ was 24, 20, and 8 h, respectively. The corrosion behavior of Mg-15Y alloy was studied using immersion, hydrogen evolution and electrochemical tests. The experimental results revealed that the heat treatment improved the corrosion resistance, and the corrosion resistance became better with increasing the heat treatment time. The corrosion mode of the alloy after heat treatment was microgalvanic corrosion consisting of the cathodic Mg24Y5 phase and anodic α-Mg matrix, and Mg-15Y exhibited favorable uniform corrosion mode in NaC1 solution. The volume and increasing tendency of the homogenization treatment samples were both more than those of the as-cast sample. 展开更多

A self-propagating high-temperature synthesis route is adopted for the fabrication of TiB2-reinforced magnesium RZ5 alloy-based in-situ metal matrix composites.Ti-B is used according to the appropriate stoichiometry to obtain 4,6 and 8 wt.%TiB2 reinforcements.The base alloy and cast composites are solutionised to enhance the mechanical properties of the materials.A microstructural study of the composites is carried out using optical microscopy and field emission seanning electron microscopy(FESEM)and revealed near-uniform distribution of TiB2 particles in the magnesium RZ5 alloy matrix.X-ray diffraction revealed the formation of the TiB2 reinforcement along with the transient phase TiB and MgB7.The hardness of the RZ5 alloy-based composites increases by 7.12%,17.06%and 32.07%with the addition of 4,6 and 8 wt.%TiB2 reinforcements,respectively.The ultimate tensile strength of the as-cast composite increases by 30.47%with the addition of 8 wt.%TiB2.The tensile strength and ductility of the materials is improved by using the solutionising heat treatment.The heat-treated composite containing 8 wt.%TiB2 results in an ultimate tensile strength of 178.7 MPa.The tensile fracture surfaces are analysed using FESEM.The wear loss of the materials decreased from 25.826 mm^(3)to 22.949 mm^(3)by the adding 8 wt.%TiB2 for the sliding distance of 2000 m.Micrographs of the worn surfaces obtained from FESEM of both the base alloy and composites are also studied which indicate delamination,wear groove and oxide formation. 展开更多
