An Intervention Study of Language Cognition and Emotional Speech Community Method for Children’s Speech Disorders

Speech disorders are a common type of childhood disease.Through experimental intervention,this study aims to improve the vocabulary comprehension levels and language ability of children with speech disorders through the language cognition and emotional speech community method.We also conduct a statistical analysis of the inter-ventional effect.Among children with speech disorders in Dongguan City,224 were selected and grouped accord-ing to their receptive language ability and IQ.The 112 children in the experimental group(EG)received speech therapy with language cognitive and emotional speech community,while the 112 children in the control group(CG)only received conventional treatment.After six months of experimental intervention,the Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test-Revised(PPVT-R)was used to test the language ability of the two groups.Overall,we employed a quantitative approach to obtain numerical values,examine the variables identified,and test hypotheses.Further-more,we used descriptive statistics to explore the research questions related to the study and statistically describe the overall distribution of the demographic variables.The statistical t-test was used to analyze the data.The data shows that after intervention through language cognition and emotional speech community therapy,the PPVT-R score of the EG was significantly higher than that of the CG.Therefore,we conclude that there is a significant difference in language ability between the EG and CG after the therapy.Although both groups improved,the post-therapy language level of EG is significantly higher than that of CG.The total effective rate in EG is higher than CG,and the difference is statistically significant(p<0.05).Therefore,we conclude that the language cogni-tion and emotional speech community method is effective as an interventional treatment of children’s speech dis-orders and that it is more effective than traditional treatment methods.

Analysis of Smooth Cepstral Peak Prominence in Hypokinetic Dysarthria Associated With Parkinson’s Disease

Smoothed cepstral peak prominence(CPPs)is a measurement of the distance from the prominent cepstral peak to the linear regression line directly beneath it.Variations of CPPs data acquisition and analysis lead to the complexity of the clinical cut-off values,and there are no agreeable values for a specific voice disorder,such as hypokinetic dysarthria associated with Parkinson’s disease(PD).This study examined the CPPs in people with hypokinetic dysarthria associated with PD compared with healthy participants.Results demonstrated significant differences in speech tasks of sustained vowel and connected speech,with CPPs of connected speech more sensitive to dysphonia and gender difference in PD participants.Males in PD participants presented higher CPPs for sustained vowels and lower CPPs for connected speech than females.It is implied that a consistent clinical application protocol is necessary,and multiple acoustic measures are needed to ensure the accuracy of clinical decisions.

Stylistics is an interdisciplinary study which applies modem linguistic theories and approaches to research style of language use. Taking stylistics as a base, this paper gives a detailed analysis of stylistic devices used in Hillary＇s Inspiring Speech in Yale University from the perspective of linguistic description, textual analysis and situational factors, and then explores the general stylistic features of public speech, thus providing some enlightenment for public speakers in the future.

An Analysis on Gender Differences in Public Speeches of Obama and Hillary

Enhancing Parkinson’s Disease Diagnosis Accuracy Through Speech Signal Algorithm Modeling

Parkinson’s disease(PD),one of whose symptoms is dysphonia,is a prevalent neurodegenerative disease.The use of outdated diagnosis techniques,which yield inaccurate and unreliable results,continues to represent an obstacle in early-stage detection and diagnosis for clinical professionals in the medical field.To solve this issue,the study proposes using machine learning and deep learning models to analyze processed speech signals of patients’voice recordings.Datasets of these processed speech signals were obtained and experimented on by random forest and logistic regression classifiers.Results were highly successful,with 90%accuracy produced by the random forest classifier and 81.5%by the logistic regression classifier.Furthermore,a deep neural network was implemented to investigate if such variation in method could add to the findings.It proved to be effective,as the neural network yielded an accuracy of nearly 92%.Such results suggest that it is possible to accurately diagnose early-stage PD through merely testing patients’voices.This research calls for a revolutionary diagnostic approach in decision support systems,and is the first step in a market-wide implementation of healthcare software dedicated to the aid of clinicians in early diagnosis of PD.

Speech Analysis for Diagnosis of Parkinson’s Disease Using Genetic Algorithm and Support Vector Machine

Parkinson’s disease (PD) is the most common disease of motor system degeneration that occurs when the dopamine-producing cells are damaged in substantia nigra. To detect PD, various signals have been investigated, including EEG, gait and speech. Since approximately 90 percent of the people with PD suffer from speech disorders, speech analysis is considered as the most common technique for this aim. This paper proposes a new algorithm for diagnosing of Parkinson’s disease based on voice analysis. In the first step, genetic algorithm (GA) is undertaken for selecting optimized features from all extracted features. Afterwards a network based on support vector machine (SVM) is used for classification between healthy and people with Parkinson. The dataset of this research is composed of a range of biomedical voice signals from 31 people, 23 with Parkinson’s disease and 8 healthy people. The subjects were asked to pronounce letter “A” for 3 seconds. 22 linear and non-linear features were extracted from the signals that 14 features were based on F0 (fundamental frequency or pitch), jitter, shimmer and noise to harmonics ratio, which are main factors in voice signal. Because changing in these factors is noticeable for the people with PD, optimized features were selected among them. Of the various numbers of optimized features, the data classification was investigated. Results show that the classification accuracy percent of 94.50 per 4 optimized features, the accuracy percent of 93.66 per 7 optimized features and the accuracy percent of 94.22 per 9 optimized features, could be achieved. It can be observed that the best classification accuracy may be achieved using Fhi (Hz), Fho (Hz), jitter (RAP) and shimmer (APQ5).

A Linguistic and Stylistic Analysis of the Chinese Translation of Obama's Speech at the First Meeting of the Strategic and Economic Dialogue between the United States and China——Through the Lens of Reiss' s Text Type Theory

According to Reiss’s Text Type theory,a key part of the functionalist approach in translation studies,the source text can be assigned to a text type and to a genre.In making this assignment,the translator can decide on the hierarchy of postulates which has to be observed during target-text production(Mona,2005).This essay intends to conduct a linguistic and stylistic analysis of the Chinese translation of Obama’s speech to explore the general approach of the translator(if there is one),by comparing the respective results of the two analyses from the perspective of Katharina Reiss’s Text Type theory.In doing so,critical judgments will accordingly be made as to whether such an approach is justifiable or not.

The Effect of Speech Fragmentation and Audio Encodings on Automatic Parkinson’s Disease Recognition

Parkinson’s disease is a neurological disease which is incurable according to current clinical knowledge. Therefore, early detection and provision of appropriate treatment are of primary importance. Speech is one of the biomarkers that enable the detection of Parkinson’s disease affection. Numerous researches are based on recordings from controlled environments;nonetheless fewer apply real circumstances. In the present study, three objectives were examined: recording fragmentation (paragraph, sentences, time-based), variable encodings (Pulse-Code Modulation [PCM], GSM-Full Rate [FR], G.723.1) and majority voting on 8 kHz records using multiple classifiers. Support Vector Machine (SVM), Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM), i-vector and x-vector classifiers were evaluated in contrast with SVM as baseline. The highest results in accuracy and F1-score were achieved using i-vector models. Although variable encodings generally caused decrease in Parkinson-disease recognition, decline was within 2% - 3% at best. Moreover, fragmentation did not yield a clear outcome though some classifiers performed with the very similar efficiency along the differently fragmented sets. Majority voting did produce a slight increase in classification performance compared to as if no aggregation is used.
