People’s Different Attitudes Towards Homosexuality

Homosexuality is a unique culture phenomenon with clear distinct connotation.The rise of homosexuality is due to the liberation of western homosexuality.Today,with the concerted efforts of many friends,homosexuality in China is gradually becoming clearer and clearer.In this thesis;the author introduces Chinese people and Western people's different attitudes towards homosexuality because of their different cultures.

Decoding the Homosexuality of Western Culture in Archetypal Approach

Homosexuality is a special part of western gender studies, which has been studied by western intellectual ever since it was born. Owing to the different attitudes of various cultures in different spatial-times, it was more depressed rather than accepted, but as an objective being in histor）; it shows itself a static state accompanying the whole human history. Today homosexuality has been one of the mainstreams in western intellectual movement and it is vitally important for us to give it a reasonable, precise definition in order to build up a harmonious society. This article tries to break through the bondage of material determinism and economical monism. It will be guided by the principle to delve into the human sub-consciousness to find the same essence between homosexuality and heterosexuality, to trace back to the origin of homosexuality in archetypal approach in order to reveal the anxiety of the legality of human existence and its poetic construction, which is hidden behind the cultural phenomenon.

Brain activation patterns associated with sexual orientation in homosexual male and female: a case study with 3.0T fMRI

This study was performed to clarify the sexual orien-tation in a 19-year-old homosexual male and a 20-year-old homosexual female by using a functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) with viewing male and female erotic nude pictures. The sex hor-mone levels of the homosexual male and female were in the normal range of healthy heterosexual males and females, respectively. In both homosexuals more significant brain activities were observed while view-ing the nude pictures of the same genetic sex than those of the opposite sex in the frontal cortex, parietal cortex, occipital cortex, anterior cingulate gyrus, amygdala, midbrain, hippocampus, orbitofrontal cortex, parahippocampal gyrus, thalamus, globus pallidus, and putamen, which are known to be re-sponsive to sexual arousal. The homosexual male and female showed a tendency toward higher sexual arousal to the same genetic sex as comparison with the opposite sex. This finding may be useful to un-derstand the different neural mechanisms on sexual arousal in homosexuals.

Primary care physicians'knowledge,attitude and perception towards homosexuality in Singapore

Aims:This study aim to gain insights into attitudes,acceptance and knowledge levels among family physicians toward homosexual people,which are important as they may affect care among this at-risk group.Methods:An anonymized self-administered questionnaire in English was posted with the assistance of the College of Family Physicians Singapore in February 2015 to its 1529 members with self-addressed,pre-stamped envelopes for replies.The questionnaire included demographic questions such as age group,gender,religion,ethnicity,marital status and place of practice.Questions and scales that measured attitude,acceptance,knowledge and perception of colleagues who are homosexual were also included in the questionnaire.Results:451 responses(29.5%)were obtained,of which 441 were valid(28.84%).About 52.8%of participants were found to have negative,8.9%neutral and 38.3%positive attitudes toward homosexuality.Most(75.6%)were accepting of homosexuals,with 9.3%neutral and 15.1%not accepting.Knowledge levels were poor,with a mean score of 6.9 out of a maximum of 13.A strong correlation was found between the attitudes towards lesbians and gay men(ATLG)and acceptance of homosexuals scales(r=0.69,P<0.001),with moderate correlations between acceptance and knowledge(r=0.54,P<0.001)and ATLG and Knowledge(r=0.54,P<0.001).Conclusion:Despite majority of family physicians having negative attitudes towards homosexuality,most are able to accept homosexuality.With better education in sexual orientation in the medical educational curriculum,the increase in knowledge will lead to better care for people with homosexuality.

名词翻译牵涉到两个语言体系不同的社会风俗和历史文化,若不从语源学(etymology)和语义学(se- mantics)入手,就难以满足“信雅达”三大要求。设若不信不达,必会造成种种误解。Homosexuality一词通常被译为“同性恋”,近年亦有译作“同性爱”,两个译法都未能充分表达homosexuality一词的全部内容。现今有许多性教育工作者对“同性恋”一词习以为常,忽略原词当中并无“恋”(love)或“爱”(love,affection)的意义,遂未能认清homo- sexuality的真相本貌,及其对当事人、家庭和社会造成的全部不良影响。个别性学工作者更因不明白“男风”或“男色”的实际情况,及其与当代“男同性恋活动家”(gay activist)所宣扬美化的“男同性恋”(homosexuality或male homo- sexuality)之间存在的重大差别,常有误以为中国古代已有“男同性恋”,甚或歌颂“男同性恋”。从语源学视之,ho- mosexuality实由sexuality再加词头homo合成,若要理解其全部含义,须从语义学的角度检视sex,sexual和sexuality 三词的全部意义。此三词在实际应用时,每多表示“性交行为”,只后二者间中用作表示一些与“恋爱”相关的概念。而homosexuality一词亦以用作表示两个性别相同的人进行“同性性交”(same-sex intercourse,或同性性行为) 为主,甚少用?

The purpose of the paper civilization is to provide a is to show violence as the integral property of any live being. One of the aims of controlled portion of violence to the community members. If the portions are too small then uncontrolled violence appears in different forms of criminality and self-destruction. In countries without virtual violence the terrorism and ＂suicide＂ bombers are born. For the male the aim of violence is a feeling of victory. In the nature only the winner has the right to reproduction. In a civilized society each male has the right to reproduction and the necessity to feel himself as a winner. Survival means right for reproduction. Civilization has turned the bite between men into a kiss between men （men winner） and women （men defeated）, the kick between men--into a caress between men （men winner） and women （men defeated） and, finally, the violence between men into love/eros between men （men winner） and women （men vanquished） and violence between men into homosexuality/eros between men winner and men vanquished. In the civilization, the male is winner and the female simulates the defeated male, homo or animals. We can define eros as a substitute of violence in civilization like the metamorphose of violence.

Daniel Paul Schreber’s Homosexuality and Schizophrenia

Daniel Paul Schreber(1842-1911)was once the Presiding Judge in the Saxon Court of Appeal and a doctor of law in Germany,until he was afflicted with a severe mental illness in 1884.He was given the diagnosis of paranoid schizophrenia.His delusional systems involved intimate contact with God and the overwhelming desire to become a woman and to be impregnated by God.He repressed his homosexuality throughout his life.He published an autobiographical account of his mental illness in 1903 in a book entitled Denkwürdigkeiten eines Nervenkranken(Memoirs of a Nervous Illness),which soon became a classic of psychiatric literature commented on by Sigmund Freud,Carl Jung and other psychoanalysts.

Identity of Homosexual Consciousness in the Works of Lu Yin

Lu Yin庐隐(1898-1934)was a leading“new woman”,and she had scaled the heights of her writing profession in mid-Republican China.In her short 36-year life,she published over 200 works in all,including novels,essays,proses and travelogues.As the first May Fourth female writer who touched upon the theme of homosexuality and depicted a lesbian story without reservation,Lu Yin created a short story“The Diary of Lishi”in which she narrated the love between Lishi and her same-sex partner Yuanqing;but this finally ended in tragedy,which implied Lu Yin’s deconstruction of binary gender order.Meanwhile,this paper distinguishes“Old Friends on the Seashore”from lesbian or quasi-lesbian stories and argued that this fiction was more in terms of female same-sex camaraderie instead of lesbian love.

John Nash(1928-2015)won the Nobel Prize in Economics in 1994.However,his world fame is just as much due to the book by Sylvia Nasar entitled A Beautiful Mind and the film based on it,with the same title,starring Russel Crowe,both of which portray his struggle with schizophrenia,which lasted from 1957 until his death.The book also reveals his homosexuality,which the film ignores.The purpose of this article is to advance the hypothesis that Nash’s schizophrenia was caused by the repression of his homosexuality,thus confirming Freud’s theory that sexual repression is the most common cause of psychosis.

Chinese Homosexual Males’ Gender Stratification at Gay Bar

This paper adopts the ethnographic research method(qualitative research)to analyze the Chinese gays’interactions in the gay bar.As the complete observer,the author focuses on the practice of Chinese homosexual gay male exchanges to study why they gather here and the implicational meaning behind their interactions.Moreover,the paper focuses on homosexual males’interaction behaviours to connect gender differentiation and gender stratification with societal power relations.As a result,through the detailed analysis of individuals’interactions and the adaptation of sociological theory,functionalism and social construed theory provide more comprehensive explanations for this phenomenon.

Study of People’s Views on Homosexuality from Brokeback Mountain

With a deep influence from Chinese culture and the experience of living abroad,the Chinese Director Li An directed the film The Brokeback Mountain,which won three Oscar statuettes in The 78th Annual Academy Awards.The film tells about a love story between two male homosexuals.Due to the differences between Chinese and western cultures,people’s opinions on this problem are also divided.Homosexuality is a psychological subject attracting more and more attentions and we just cannot evade it.As a social phenomenon,it exists around every one of us.It will be a psychological and a social subject with great research value if we study people’s attitudes to homosexuals and the psychological status of these homosexuals.Along with the increasing call of legislation for homosexuality as well as the occurrence of various social events caused by homosexuals or in which the homosexuals act as victims,the social and psychological problems of homosexuality are worthy to be studied and concerned by all of us.

Male Homosexuality and Foxes in Ji Yun's Zhiguai Collection Tales of the Thatched Cottage

Tales reflecting homosexual relationships between foxes and humans had appeared as early as the Ming Dynasty.With both the increase in prevalence in society and fictional representation of homosexuality during the Ming and Qing Dynasties,the stories of male-male sex between foxes and humans became increasingly popular,demonstrating the popular attitudes toward homosexuality among the Qing literati.In this paper,I analyze late imperial Chinese homosexuality as portrayed in Ji Yun's zhiguai collection uTales of the Thatched Cottage?,(Yuewei Caotang Biji).Zhiguai,or strange tales in English,is a genre of writing featuring ghosts,magical animalhuman shapeshiftings,dreams that intervene in reality,and other supernatural characters and events.These tales are set against a background of strict Confucian orthodoxy and Buddhist beliefs in sexual activity(whether heterosexual or homosexual)as a manifestation of human greed,in a society where everything had its place,in which the boundaries of sexuality were rigidly controlled.I examine what foxes reveal about homosexuality in these tales as they cross the boundary between moral and immoral,healthy and destructive.1 argue that the fox’s homosexual punishment of humanity has two motives:(1)disciplining sexual lasciviousness and(2)karmic retribution for misdeeds in a former life.In these instances,the fox’s ensuing erotic deviancy serves as the vehicle for cautionary tales that demonstrate homosexuality to be a taboo as it punishes greedy desires(sexual or otherwise).

The Sexual Source of Hitler and Putin’s Inhumanity

This article argues that the psychopathological aberrations of both Adolf Hitler and Vladimir Putin have their source in their inability to resolve their psychosexual conflicts.Witnesses have related that Hitler had homosexual relationships and that Putin had pedophile experiences with boys.To compensate for the reprehensible aspects of their sexual scandals,they both developed a new persona,that of the savior of their respective nations.They thus created enemies from which they wanted to defend their homelands.In the case of Hitler,it was the Jews.For Putin it was Ukrainian Nazis.

The relationship between acceptance of illness and quality of life among men who have sex with men living with human immunodeficiency virus:A cross-sectional study

Objectives To explore the relationship between acceptance of illness and quality of life(QOL),and factors associated with acceptance of illness among men who have sex with men(MSM)living with human immunodeficiency virus(HIV).Methods Three hundred and one MSM were recruited from an HIV clinic between August and December 2018.The battery of measurements consisted of the Acceptance of Illness Scale,World Health Organization Quality of Life Questionnaire for HIV brief version,HIV Cognitive Appraisal Scale and a self-designed questionnaire used to collect general information.Pearson correlation test was used to examine the relationship between acceptance of illness and QOL.Univariate and multivariate ordinal logistic regression analyses were used to examine whether the general data(demographic and HIV-related clinical data)and HIV cognitive appraisal were associated with acceptance of illness levels.Results Descriptive analysis showed the acceptance level among MSM living with HIV was moderate(Mean=26.29,SD=5.28).Those with a better acceptance of illness had a better QOL(r=0.69,P<0.01).In the multivariate ordinal logistic regression model,education level,threat appraisals(OR:1.09;95%CI[1.06–1.13]),and controllability appraisals(OR:0.82;95%CI[0.71–0.94])were significantly associated with acceptance of illness.Conclusions Results showed acceptance level was moderate and had a positive correlation with QOL.High level of education,low threat appraisals and high controllability appraisals were related to high illness acceptance.This finding highlights the importance of focusing on HIV-infected MSM with low education and on their perceptions of threat and controllability about HIV-related issues when designing interventions to promote illness acceptance in this vulnerable population.

Hart Crane:A Romantic Poet of the Complex Genre of High Modernism

For many decades Herold Hart Crane,an American poet,who played a very important role in the development of Modern American Literature in the early decades of 20th century,had been considered as a romantic poet by many critics for his romantic verses.His poetries are considered not only the reflection of the contemporary social phenomenon,ideology,and thoughts,rather they are prophetic.On the other hand,in the early decades of 20th century,in American society,modernism marked a simultaneous movement which tremendously affected the emergence of new values in field of politics,economy,lifestyle,literature,and literary thoughts.The influence of rapid industrializations and the First World War not only changed the philosophy of human life,but also changed the writing style of the contemporary American writers.The new crowded urban life,which is a result of rapid industrializations,and the fear of war made the human being selfish.Humans lost his romantic attitudes towards the literature.A complexity emerged.Hart Crane also could not avoid this complexity.If we study his life style,philosophy of life,and poetic diction,we will surely confine his intelligence not between romanticism and modernism separately.Rather,we can call him a Modernist Romantic poet.In short,Crane can be declared as a romantic poet of the complex genre of high modernism.
