Dental pulp stem/stromal cells(DPSCs)are fibroblast-like,neural crest-derived,and multipotent cells that can differentiate into several lineages. They are relatively easy to isolate from healthy and inflamed pulps, with little ethical concerns and can be successfully cryopreserved and thawed. The therapeutic effects of DPSCs derived from animal or human sources have been extensively studied through in-vitro and in-vivo animal experiments and the findings indicated that DPSCs are effective not only for dental diseases but also for systemic diseases.Understanding that translational research is a critical step through which the fundamental scientific discoveries could be translated into applicable diagnostics and therapeutics that directly benefit humans, several clinical studies were carried out to generate evidence for the efficacy and safety of autogenous or allogeneic human DPSCs(hDPSCs)as a treatment modality for use in cell-based therapy, regenerative medicine/dentistry and tissue engineering. In clinical medicine,hDPSCs were effective for treating acute ischemic stroke and human exfoliated deciduous teeth-conditioned medium(SHED-CM)repaired vascular damage of the corpus cavernous, which is the main cause of erectile dysfunction.Whereas in clinical dentistry, autologous SHED was able to rege-nerate necrotic dental pulp after implantation into injured teeth, and micrografts enriched with autologous hDPSCs and collagen sponge were considered a treatment option for human intrabony defects. In contrast,hDPSCs did not add a significant regenerative effect when they were used for the treatment of post-extraction sockets.Large-scale clinical studies across diverse populations are still lacking to provide robust evidence on the safety and efficacy of hDPSCs as a new treatment option for various human diseases including dental-related problems. 展开更多

The human dietary selenium requirement in China has been estimated by various methods. The minimum dietary selenium requircment for the prevention of Keshan disease (KD) was found to be around 17 μg/d. On the other hand, an intake of 40 μg/d is required to maintain the plasma glutathione peroxidase (GPx) activity at plateau. Hence 40 μg/d is considered as the adequate dietary selenium requirement. Studies conducted in a chronic selenosis area indicate thai the toxic dietary selenlum inlake (adverse effect level), which would maintain the characteristic fingernail changes, was approximately 1600 μg/d. The mean value of dietary selenium intakes, which enabled the five patients to recover from fingernail lesions, was found to be 819 ±126μg/d. At a 95% confidence limit, the lower limit is around 600μg/d. Therefore, 600 and 400μg/d were suggested as the individual daily maximum safe selenium intake and the safe dietary selenium intake, respectively,The results were used in the prevention of Se-related endemic KD and Kashin-Beck disease (KBD) 展开更多

A hybridoma cell line SZ-39 secreting monoclonal antibody against the human glioma cell has been established by a fusion between NS-1 myeloma cells and spleen cells from mice immunized with human glioma cell lines. Monoclonal antibody (McAb) SZ-39 was analyzed by ELISA, quantitative absorption, indirect immunofluorescence and ABC immunohistology. McAb SZ-39 strongly bound to 9/10 glioma cell lines, 17/20 glioma tissues, weakly bound to one liver cancer cell line and 1/2 lung cancer line, but they did not band with other tested human cancer linse. NcAb SZ-39 have no cross-reaction with lymphocyte, ABC red blood cells, white blood cells, blood platelet, normal bone marrow cells, fibroblast cells and 12 normal human tissues. The result indicated the antigen recognized by McAb SZ-39 may be a glioma-associated antigen <GAA). This GAA was analyzed by means of Western blotting. It was a MW 180 Kd glycopro-tein. The 131I-McAb SZ-39 specifically localized in human glioma xenografted in nude mice that indicate it may be useful in radioimmunoimaging and as a target for immunotherapy on human glioma. 展开更多

In order to gradually build a theoretical system of human rights with Chinese characteristics that conforms to the development of the times through rigorous academic research, researchers need to break through the basic think- ing tendency of "from idea to idea" step by step and finally establish the fundamental research orientation of "specifying human rights stud- ies." Through comprehensive and systematic analysis and sorting out various basic concepts relating to human rights, researchers also need to finally establish a solid foundation and prerequisite for fruitful academic study. 展开更多

AIM: To evaluate whether multiple determinations of intramucosal pH (pHi) in acute pancreatitis (AP) patients could provide additional information of the disease severity during early hospitalization. METHODS: Twenty-one patients suffering from acute pancreatitis were monitored by gastric tonometry in the first 72 h after hospital admission. RESULTS: In the survivor group (n = 15) the initially low phi values returned to normal level (pHi ≥ 7.32) within 48 h (median pHi: d 1: 7.21; d 2: 7.32; d 3: 7.33). In contrast, pHi values in the non-survivor group n = 6) were persistently either below or in the low normal range (median pHi 7.12; 7.12; 7.07 respectively), but pHi differences between the two groups reached significance only after 24 h (P 〈 0.01). Mucosal acidosis detected at any time during the monitored period was associated with the emergence of single or multiple organ dysfunction (P 〈 0.01). CONCLUSION: Prolonged gastric mucosal acidosis was associated with remote organ dysfunction and failure in Acute Pancreatitis, however, correlation with the fatal outcome became significant only 24 h after admission. Due to its non-invasive nature gastric tonometry may supplement the pro-inflammatory markers to achieve a multi-faceted monitoring of the disease. 展开更多

The high incidence, mortality, and disability associated with ischemic stroke pose a significant threat to human health. The intestinal microbiota significantly influences the onset, progression, and prognosis of ischemic stroke.Gut flora plays a pivotal role in brain-gut interactions. The reflection of changes in the gut and brain caused by gut microbes faciltates the investigation of early warning biomarkers and potential therapeutic targets for ischemic stroke. In this narrative review of the relationship between gut microbiota and ischemic stroke,we primarily discuss three topics, grounded in real-world human and animal studies.First,we examined the relationship between ischemic stroke and intestinal microbiota and its metabolites, delineate the overall characteristics of intestinal microbiota dysregulation in ischemic stroke, and assess the potential clinical value, prevailing research controversies, and unique phenomena of intestinal microbiota metabolites such as trimethylamine N-oxide and short-chain fatty acids in ischemic stroke.Second,we explored the potential communication pathways between intestinal flora and ischemic stroke based on the brain-gut axis, encompassing metabolic pathways, immune pathways, and neural pathways. Finally,we encapsulated the factors influencing the severity of ischemic stroke via intestinal flora, the pharmacological and nonpharmacological interventions that modulate intestinal flora in treating ischemic stroke, and the current research landscape of intestinal flora in the context of ischemic stroke sequelae. 展开更多
