Novel method for operating characteristics test of a hydraulic pump

And the accurate characteri... The traditional testing method of a hydraulic pump requires a large amount of test data from a variety of pump working conditions. The test is usually time-consuming and energy-consu- ming. And the accurate characteristic curves of the pump were hardly obtained due to a limited a- mount and discreteness of the test data. In order to simplify the test procedure and improve the test accuracy, a novel method for measuring hydraulic pump operating characteristic based on multi-ele- ment nonlinear regression (NLMR) modeling is proposed in this paper. The main idea of this model- ing method is establishing a mathematical model to predict the performance parameters of the hy- draulic pump, only a small amount of test data is needed. Consequently, the pump operating charac- teristics in any working conditions are obtained. And the test results of the pump are easily charac- terized in the graphs, charts, tables and so on. The evaluations of the model are carried out and dis- cussed in this paper. The result shows that the test error of the novel method can be controlled to be about 0. 1%. Compared with the traditional test method, the proposed method reduces greatly the test time and the random error of the test data, and improves the efficiency and accuracy of the pump test. 展开更多

This study proposed a battery management approach for the electric hydraulic pump system of a lifting trolley.The pump system was powered by two 12-V lead-acid batteries in series.Because direct measurement of the actual battery state of charge is unlikely,it has mostly been determined through estimation based on the measured open-circuit voltage.A discharge current will result in a voltage drop and hence a lower voltage during discharge;however,the battery voltage will return to the original open-circuit voltage once the discharge stops.The operating current of the electric hydraulic pump system employed in this study was associated with three factors:the lifting height,lifting load,and battery state of charge.The operating current remained constant during the first half of the lifting phase and increased gradually with the lifting height in the second half.The operating current peaked when the lifting height reached the maximum.The power management approach for the electric hydraulic pump system featured the following basic functions:overcharge protection,overdischarge protection,short-circuit protection,overload protection,and an operating timer established in accordance with the system’s operating current variation.According to the manufacturer-defined maximum lifting load and lifting height of the lifting trolley,this study conducted experiments to obtain the maximum required operating time.An operating time greater than the maximum required operating time indicates the occurrence of an unexpected event,discharge should be stopped until the fault is resolved. 展开更多

Cavitation caused by insufficient suction is a major factor that influences the life of aircraft pumps. Currently, pressurizing the tank can solve the cavitation problem under steady largeflow conditions. However, this method is not always effective under transient conditions(from zero flow to full flow in a very short time). Moreover, to apply and design other measures, such as a boost impeller, the suction dynamics during the transient period must be investigated. In this paper,a novel approach based on the pressure wave propagation theory is proposed for predicting the inlet pressure of an aircraft pump under transient conditions. First, a dynamic model of a typical aircraft pump is established in the form of differential equations. Then, the transient flow model of the inlet line is described using momentum and continuity equations, and the governing equations are discretized by the method of characteristics and the finite difference method. The simulated results are in good agreement with the results from verification tests. Further simulation analysis indicates that the wave velocity and transient time may influence the inlet and reservoir pressure as well as the size of the inlet line. Finally, solutions for upgrading the inlet pressure are discussed. These solutions provide guidelines for designing inlet installations. 展开更多

A computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation method based on 3-D Navier Stokes equation and Arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian (ALE) method is presented to analyze the grooved slip- per performance of piston pump. The moving domain of grooved slipper is transformed into a fixed reference domain by the ALE method, which makes it convenient to take the effects of rotate speed, body force, temperature, and oil viscosity into account. A geometric model to express the complex structure, which covers the orifice of piston and slipper, vented groove and the oil film, is constructed. Corresponding to different oil film thicknesses calculated in light of hydrostatic equilibrium theory and boundary conditions, a set of simulations is conducted in COMSOL to analyze the pump characteristics and effects of geometry (groove width and radius, orifice size) on these characteristics. Furthermore, the mechanics and hydraulics analyses are employed to validate the CFD model, and there is an excellent agreement between simulation and analytical results. The simulation results show that the sealing land radius, orifice size and groove width all dramatically affect the slipper behavior, and an optimum tradeoff among these factors is conducive to optimizing the pump design. 展开更多

Based on DCT, a novel method for the fault feature extraction of hydraulic pump is analyzed. The vibration signal of pump is de-noised with CNC de-noising method, and the fault feature is extracted by performing Hilbert-Huang transform(HHT) to the output signal. The analysis results of the simulation signal and the actual one demonstrate that the proposed CNC de-noising method and the fault feature extraction method have more superior ability than the traditional ones. 展开更多

An integrated boost impeller can effectively improve the suction performance of an aircraft hydraulic pump(AHP).It must be designed very carefully;however,few studies thus far have investigated boost impellers.To explore the effect of the boost impeller,this study developed a three-dimensional computational fluid dynamics(CFD)model for an AHP based on the k-εturbulence model and full cavitation model.The results of verification tests demonstrated that the model is reliable for simulating the delivery characteristics of piston pumps and the boost capacity of the inlet impeller.Steady-state simulations reveal that the boost impeller can remarkably improve the suction performance and mitigate the cavitation damage due to insufficient fluid filling while only consuming a small proportion of the total input power.Transient-state simulations show that the pump with an impeller is more capable of catching up with a sudden increase in flow demand,and it has a lower suction flow ripple and impact.However,such a boost impeller also has some limitations such as magnifying the suction pressure fluctuation and having little effect on mitigating the cavitation caused by the back-flow jet. 展开更多

Hydraulic piston pumps are commonly used in aircraft. In order to improve the viability of aircraft and energy efficiency, intelligent variable pressure pump systems have been used in aircraft hydraulic systems more and more widely. Efficient fault diagnosis plays an important role in improving the reliability and performance of hydraulic systems. In this paper, a fault diagnosis method of an intelligent hydraulic pump system(IHPS) based on a nonlinear unknown input observer(NUIO) is proposed. Different from factors of a full-order Luenberger-type unknown input observer, nonlinear factors of the IHPS are considered in the NUIO. Firstly, a new type of intelligent pump is presented, the mathematical model of which is established to describe the IHPS. Taking into account the real-time requirements of the IHPS and the special structure of the pump, the mechanism of the intelligent pump and failure modes are analyzed and two typical failure modes are obtained. Furthermore, a NUIO of the IHPS is performed based on the output pressure and swashplate angle signals. With the residual error signals produced by the NUIO, online intelligent pump failure occurring in real-time can be detected. Lastly, through analysis and simulation, it is confirmed that this diagnostic method could accurately diagnose and isolate those typical failure modes of the nonlinear IHPS. Taking four kinds of different port plates as instances, the noise identification is successfully carried out for hydraulic axial piston pump based on experiments with the MATLAB and the toolbox of neural networks, The operating pressure, the flow rate of hydraulic axial piston pump, the temperature of hydraulic oil, and bulk modulus of hydraulic oil are the main parameters having influences on the noise of hydraulic axial piston pump. These four parameters are used as inputs of neural networks, and experimental data of the noise are used as outputs of neural networks, Error of noise identification is less than 1% after the neural networks have been trained. The results show that the noise identification of hydraulic axial piston pump is feasible and reliable by using artificial neural networks. The method of noise identification with neural networks is also creative one of noise theoretical research for hydraulic axial piston pump. 展开更多

A comparative investigation on wear behaviors of physical and chemical vapor deposited bronze coatings for hydraulic piston pump

The cylinder block/valve plate interface is one of the most critical frictional interfaces of the swashplate-type axial piston pump.However,the poor lubrication interface caused rapid wear and high friction loss in an elastohydrodynamic lubrication system,decreasing the pump lifetime.Wear resistant bronze coatings were fabricated on 38CrMoAl substrate by Physical Vapor Deposition(PVD)and Chemical Vapor Deposition(CVD),respectively.Ball-on-disc wear tests were performed to comparatively investigate the wear behaviors of the coatings and bulk ductile iron samples.It can be found that the PVD-bronze coating exhibited better wear resistance than the other two samples.This enhanced wear resistance was attributed to the unique composite microstructure and desired mechanical strength,which could resist to mechanical shear and spallation,decreasing friction loss.The appropriate hardness of(1.33±0.07)GPa could be beneficial for enhancing its wear resistance.The PVD-bronze coating possessed a much lower and stable coefficient of friction(about 0.1)and wear rate(about 6000μm3.N-1.m-1)under the loading forces of about 100 N after 20 min.The wear mechanism was the abrasive wear. 展开更多

The hydraulic force on the reversible pump turbine might cause serious problems(e.g., the abnormal stops due to large vibrations of the machine), affecting the safe operations of the pumped energy storage power plants. In the present paper, the hydraulic force on the impeller of a model reversible pump turbine is quantitatively investigated through numerical simulations. It is found that both the amplitude of the force and its dominant components strongly depend on the operating conditions(e.g., the turbine mode, the runaway mode and the turbine brake mode) and the guide vane openings. For example, the axial force parallel with the shaft is prominent in the turbine mode while the force perpendicular to the shaft is the dominant near the runaway and the turbine brake modes. The physical origins of the hydraulic force are further revealed by the analysis of the fluid states inside the impeller. 展开更多

The purpose of this paper is to develop an implementable strategy of brake energy recovery for a parallel hydraulic hybrid bus. Based on brake process analysis, a dynamic programming algorithm of brake energy recovery is established. And then an implementable strategy of brake energy recovery is proposed by the constraint variable trajectories analysis of the dynamic programming algorithm in the typical urban bus cycle. The simulation results indicate the brake energy recovery efficiency of the accumulator can reach 60% in the dynamic programming algorithm. And the hydraulic hybrid system can output braking torque as much as possible.Moreover, the accumulator has almost equal efficiency of brake energy recovery between the implementable strategy and the dynamic programming algorithm. Therefore, the implementable strategy is very effective in improving the efficiency of brake energy recovery.The road tests show the fuel economy of the hydraulic hybrid bus improves by 22.6% compared with the conventional bus. 展开更多
