Conservation and Renewal Strategies of Industrial Heritage Residential Areas from the Perspective of Heritage Protection : A Case Study of Residential Area of Wuchang Vehicle Factory

The residential area of Wuchang Vehicle Factory is taken as a case to explore the protection and renewal strategies of industrial heritage residential areas.By analyzing the current situation of the residential area,issues such as functional decline,memory loss,and weakened community vitality are revealed.Three design concepts are proposed:building renovation,historical space renovation,and the introduction of cultural and creative industries,aiming to improve the living environment,showcase historical value,cultivate cultural and creative industries,promote economic transformation,and community vitality.This paper could provide reference for the protection and renewal of similar industrial heritage residential areas,and new ideas for the research and utilization of industrial heritage.By comprehensively considering heritage protection,cultural inheritance,and community development,systematic suggestions are proposed.

Practical Research on Green Complex with Industrial Heritage as the Core

In the context of ecological civilization construction in the new era,the development of highquality cities places more emphasis on resource integration and multi-party coordination.The exploration of the concept of green complex has proposed a new path for urban double repair and urban renewal.The green complex centered on industrial heritage has achieved the combination of industrial heritage activation and utilization with natural ecosystem restoration,which is of great significance for sustainable and healthy urban development.Based on the landscape design of the main exhibition area of the 11th Jiangsu Garden Expo,the application of green complex in industrial heritage protection is explored.By integrating industrial heritage relics,green activity spaces,urban public resources,and natural environment in the form of green complex,it promotes the coordinated development of various functions and creates a new type of green inclusive city.

Identity Change Before and After the Regeneration Project of the Waterfront Area Based on Industrial Heritage-A Case Study of Yangpu Waterfront (China)

This paper takes Yangpu Waterfront,a famous industrial heritage belt in Shanghai(China),as the research object,with the purpose of sorting out the identity transformation that this waterfront industrial area has experienced in the past century.Taking the comprehensive development on both sides of the Huangpu River carried out in Shanghai in the early 21st century as the dividing line,Yangpu Waterfront has also been reborn after the waterfront regeneration projects that have been in full swing in recent years.This identity change is reflected in physical settings,observable activities,and meanings.The article is based on historical research and current situation analysis,including a part of user satisfaction evaluations.

Industrial Heritage Protection in the Period of Inventory Planning

After entering the 21 st century,under the influence of urbanization and industrial transformation,China's industrial heritage protection is faced with enormous challenges.In the next 10 years,China's urban planning will enter a turning period from increment planning to inventory planning.Among objects of effective land use,industrial use will stand in the breach,which pushes the industrial heritage to the crossroad of protection or non-protection.Therefore,it is essential to study how to effectively use industrial land under the premise of protecting industrial heritage value.In view of these issues,this paper presents some thoughts about how to protect cultural value of industrial heritage in the period of inventory planning.

Application of CVM in Assessing Recreational Value of Industrial Heritage Landscapes:A Case Study of Ansteel Exhibition Hall

CVM(Contingent Valuation Method) was applied to assess recreational value of Ansteel Exhibition Hall,and monetization result was obtained as 72.918 million CNY per year.This result to some extent could define the value composition of the preserved industrial heritage landscapes,and provide references for the management,conservation and utilization of industrial heritage.

Review of Renewal Design of Industrial Heritage from the Perspective of Green Buildings

With the acceleration of global economic development and urbanization,industrial transformation and the outstanding ecological environment problems have made industrial heritage renewal receive more and more attention.In recent years,the related research conducted from the perspective of green buildings has also become one of the new hotspots.In this paper,CiteSpace software was used to make an econometric analysis of the related research in this field from 2004 to 2022 in CNKI database from the number of published papers,keyword clustering and emergentwords,and a knowledge chart was drawn.Besides,the development process,evolution trend and frontier hot spot of related research were sorted out and summarized.The results show that ① the green renewal of domestic industrial heritage has experienced three stages:embryonic stage,exploration stage and outbreak stage.②The research focuses on experience summary and project practice exploration.③The research hotspots are mainly distributed in the directions of protection strategy,evaluation system construction,green transformation technology,urban renewal,etc.,and the perspective tends to be diversified and presents the trend of multi-disciplinary intersection.The shortcomings of the research are as follows:industrial heritage research and green building research are relatively independent,and no systematic theoretical system of green transformation of industrial heritage has been formed;there is a lack of relatively comprehensive reconstruction evaluation guidelines,andevaluation models of green transformation of industrial heritage at different levels have not been established.

Conservation and Reuse of Urban Industrial Heritages: A Case Study of Granville Island in Canada

This paper reviews the conservation and reuse of industrial heritages at home and abroad, analyzes the status of the conservation and reuse of industrial heritages from four aspects, namely architectural format, architectural style and features, transport system, landscape sign and natural environment on the basis of a case study of Granville Island in Canada, and summarizes its experience in preservation and reuse, with a view to providing constructive reference for the conservation and reuse of domestic industrial heritages.

Transformation of Industrial Heritage from the Perspective of Urban Memory:A Case Study of Taoxichuan Creative Square

Urban memory is the soul of a city. With the rapid development of the city, the phenomena of“large-scale demolition and construction” and “a thousand cities having the same pattern” are becoming more and more serious, and the urban characteristics containing rich historical information are gradually lost. As an important witness of the historical development of urban industry, industrial heritage contains precious historical and cultural values. Starting urban memory, and taking Taoxichuan Square as the example,through field research and memory interview, the continuation manner of urban memory in industrial heritage space is studied, and the transformation strategy of industrial heritage is put forward from the perspective of urban memory, making industrial heritage have a unique life cycle and cultural precipitation,inherit the urban context and promote the harmonious development of society.

Research on Evaluation and Development of Industrial Heritage Tourism Resources in Textile Valley

This paper selects Qingdao Textile Valley as the research object,establishes the evaluation system of industrial heritage tourism resources,and analyzes the evaluation factors of industrial heritage tourism resources,such as resource element value,market location value,and environmental factors.Then this paper puts forward some effective suggestions to promote the development of industrial heritage tourism in Textile Valley.The results show that the measures put forward,such as fully tapping the value of resource elements,improving the surrounding traffic environment,perfecting tourism signs,perfecting local traffic routes,improving the complementarity of tourism resources,and expanding the tourist market,can scientifically and effectively protect urban industrial heritage,improve the development level of urban tourism,and speed up the transformation of new and old energy in Qingdao.

Green corridor of rust belt: Theory and practice of organic growth in three-dimensional space of industrial heritage

This paper aims at the change of land use function in the development of urbanization and the planning transformation between the new and old cities.On the basis of protecting historical and cultural relics and improving environmental problems,new industries,new functions and new vitality are implanted,and a theoretical method of achieving economic,ecological and cultural symbiosis—the theory of organic growth in three-dimensional space is put forward.By analyzing the successful cases at home and abroad,this method summarizes the experience and lessons,and considers the various factors affecting humanity,region and sustainable development.This makes the cultural growth,ecological growth,business growth,to achieve a harmonious unity of the three.The feasibility and advanced nature of the theory to promote social development and optimize urban structure are demonstrated by combining with the reconstruction project of Hangzhou Steel Company(Hanggang)Ruins Park.

Research on the Spatial Database Construction of Three-line Industrial Heritage Based on “One Map” of Territorial Space Planning —A Case Study of Mianyang Two-Bomb City

In the process of promoting the national territorial spatial planning system in all provinces, cities and counties, the geospatial database of “One Map” has realized the information sharing and collaborative work of multiple departments. Based on this, this paper intended to provide a set of standardized mapping models for industrial heritage storage, and through the establishment of the database to protect and reuse the status quo of industrial heritage research. This paper took the third-line construction industrial heritage of Mianyang “Two-Bomb City” as the research object, developed the relevant drawing standards of third-line industrial heritage database, and studied the database construction process. GIS technology is used to establish a geospatial database of the third-line industrial heritage in cooperation with the “One Map” system, in order to provide reference for the storage of the third-line industrial heritage in various places, and to protect and reuse the third-line industrial heritage from the perspectives of spatial factors, planning coordination and dynamic assessment.

A Comprehensive Evaluation of User Satisfaction with Industrial Heritage Reuse and the Optimization Strategies:Taking Zhonglian U Valley 2.5 Creative Industrial Park as an Example

The industrial heritage creative industrial park in Qingdao,which has been renovated and put to use,was selected as the research subject.Based on the data collected via the questionnaire survey and fuzzy comprehensive evaluation,the hierarchical analysis method was used to calculate the weights of indicators at each level and construct a comprehensive satisfaction evaluation model,aiming to ensure a comprehensive satisfaction evaluation and analysis of the use effect of industrial heritage following renovation and utilization.Based on the evaluation results,the existing problems in the renovation and reuse of industrial heritage in Qingdao were analyzed,and subsequently corresponding optimization strategies were proposed.

Reuse of port industrial heritage in tourist cities:Shipyards as case studies

The progressive deindustrialisation of many western cities since the 1980s has led to many industrial zones linked to port activities being abandoned or falling into disuse.Cities such as Barcelona,Naples,Lisbon,Amsterdam,and Hamburg have port industrial complexes of high tangible and intangible heritage value that could totally or partially disappear,resulting in an irreparable loss of their scientific,architectural,social,technological,and historical values.With that in mind,Adaptive Reuse(AR)of the built heritage allows the industrial memory of the ports to be preserved by turning them into new functional centres within the existing urban structure.That occurs in the context of the contemporary challenges of those cities,such as touristification,the circular economy and climate change,while guaranteeing the life cycle of those buildings.This article analyses two case studies—the Nederlandsche Scheepsbouw Maatschappij(NDSM)and the Rotterdamsche Droogdok Maatschappij(RDM)shipyards,both in the Netherlands—in order to contribute to the knowledge of AR of Port Industrial Heritage.They are two examples of good practices in port industrial heritage interventions,where the factors behind their acclaim can be easily highlighted.A multi-scale methodology is therefore used and tailored to the case of port industrial heritage,based on analysing previous studies of the heritage in different spheres and on different scales.A relationship matrix tool is thus defined.It enables a comparative study to be conducted,using key variables and indicators,and considering qualitative and quantitative data.That provides extensive output information for each case study,which is summarised in the most favourable factors for the success of the AR of this port industrial heritage.

Analysis of the systematic conservation of China’s petroleum industrial heritage:a case study and analysis of the petroleum industrial heritage in Daqing

After a century of development,China’s petroleum industry has introduced numerous and various petroleum industrial heritage elements,which collectively embody the value and signifcance of China’s petroleum industrial heritage.Currently,all levels of government departments are trying to protect petroleum industrial heritage,but only limited heritage types and elements of the petroleum industry are included in ofcial conservation lists,which is not conducive to the systematic conservation of China’s petroleum industrial heritage.To achieve the systematic conservation of China’s petroleum industrial heritage,this study introduced a global petroleumscape research method,taking the petroleum industrial heritage of China’s Daqing Oil Field as the research object,and conducted a typological and spatiotemporal historical analysis of all the heritage elements in this oilfeld.The results revealed that the current conservation of China’s petroleum industrial heritage focuses on the industrial remains formed by the fow of petroleum materials but rarely on the remains formed by the fow of petroleum capital.Additionally,some common characteristics were observed in the overall spatiotemporal pattern of the petroleum industrial heritage,and these characteristics are closely related to the spatial distribution of petroleum resources,oilfeld development strategy,dimension of urban areas,and urban development mode.Finally,this paper highlights several future research topics on the subsequent systematic conservation of China’s petroleum industrial heritage and provides some reference value for the future systematic conservation of China’s petroleum industrial heritage.

The museum method of reusing Shanghai waterfront industrial heritage:continuation and reconstruction of urban memory

In the context of transforming traditional labour-intensive industries into the service economy in China,the reuse of industrial heritage as museums has become a trend,for example,along Shanghai waterfronts,gradually fuelling the continuation of urban memory,reshaping urban cultural identity and promoting the development of the waterfront economy.Additionally,the connotation of a museum is continually being expanded from an institution to a method,and the major function is gradually shifting from collection to display.Previous studies on Shanghai waterfront industrial heritage have mostly referred to cultural factors,but these factors are still mainly included in macroscale large waterfront projects or microscale single practical project analyses.Mesoscale typology discussions between the two are rare.Therefore,this paper examines eleven industrial heritage sites that have been repurposed as museums along Shanghai waterfronts to analyse the urban memory elements of industrial heritage and summarise three classes of memory interpretation strategies:translating memory information,renovating memory carriers,and relating memory clues.Finally,the advantages and disadvantages of the study cases are discussed separately,and the following corresponding recommendations are made:1)further enrich and balance memory interpretation strategies;2)enhance the rationality,service,and tolerance of the“exhibition+”mode;and 3)improve local laws and regulations related to the protection and utilisation of industrial heritage to provide references for similar reuse designs.

中国语境下的“工业遗产”概念内涵刍议——兼议中日对Industrial Heritage的不同译介

工业遗产作为近代工业文明的产物,是人类文化遗产的重要组成部分。中国和日本同为亚洲的工业遗产大国,却分别将西方的学术概念Industrial Heritage对译为“工业遗产”和“产业遗产”,但“工业”和“产业”两词的内涵和外延其实是有所不同的。针对这一问题,以中日两国对Industrial Heritage的不同对译来透视两国的工业遗产保护实践,在理论上辨析“工业遗产”与“产业遗产”的实质性差异,相比之下“,产业遗产”的概念更符合国际对Industrial Heritage的理性认知和保护实践,也有助于我们拓展工业遗产保护和发展的新空间,进而深化国内外文化交流与合作,展示中华文明,增强文化自信。

Industrial Heritage Valorisation and Creative Industry Proliferation in Shanghai's Urban Regeneration

While industrial manufacturing is giving way to the creative economy in the 21^(st) century,Shanghai-similar to many major cities around the world-is keen to bolster a stronger economy and increase its competitive­ness by encouraging the development of cultural and creative industries.Over the past decade,the Shanghai munic­ipal government has made a concerted effort to exploit the heritage assets of the city’s industrial past to reform its economic structure.There has been a deliberate attempt to establish a stronger correlation between industrial herit­age conservation and creative industry cluster development.The aim of this research is to investigate the process of converting former industrial sites into loci of creativity.In doing so,we can determine the main actors,how different stakeholder groups came into play and the evolution of the subtle interplay between the designation of heritage architecture and that of creative industry cluster.Drawing on qualitative research methods,this paper presents a detailed analysis of three case studies in Shanghai:M50 Creative Park,1933 Shanghai and the Cool Docks.The results reveal the changing positions of three major stakeholder groups.Whereas the private sector and the general public have developed increasing interests in the embedded economic and cultural values of the former industrial struc­tures,local government has consciously reduced its presence and influence in valorising industrial heritage.Thus,the growing public awareness of cultural heritage protection and the increasing interest in the economic contribu­tion of cultural and creative industries are intrinsic to Shanghai’s reindustrialisation in the 21^(st) century.

Assessment of the Catalytic Effects of Transforming Industrial Heritage:Case Study of Sanbao Street Industrial Historic District in Changzhou

Transforming industrial heritage will have internal economic and cultural effects and will also catalyse changes in surrounding urban areas.Transforming industrial heritage is therefore an essential part of strategies to regenerate decayed industrial districts.The aim of this study was to attempt to answer three questions.Can all transformed industrial heritage give catalytic effects?How should the potential for catalytic effects be assessed?What factors prevent catalytic effects?The Sanbao Street Industrial Heritage Historic District in Changzhou,China,was used as an example,and three effects catalysed by transforming industrial heritage were assessed.These were(1)reuse of industrial and non-industrial buildings in and near the historic district,(2)new construction in and near the historic district,and(3)revitalisation of the whole historic district.Failure of the catalytic effect caused by a lack of a conversion mechanism,failure to communicate the value of industrial heritage,and limited cultural industrial capacity was assessed.Formal transformation strategies focused on the connotative value of industrial heritage are proposed,and are expected to support future research and planning practices.

Introduction to a Major Project of the National Social Science Fund:Research on China's Industrial Heritage Conservation System

Since the 1980s,China has undergone a series of important changes including industrial restructuring,land transfer,and urbanisation.These have given rise to the issue of how to address industrial heritage within many cities.The author’s research team has undertaken a National Social Science’s Major Project(the highest level of Chi­nese national social science research)titled‘Systematic Research on the Protection of Urban Industrial Heritage in Modern China’.This is the first nationwide and systematic study of industrial heritage in China.This paper provides a brief introduction to the study’s framework and current research achievements,including:(1)the study of indus­trial modernisation processes,including international perspectives;(2)industrial heritage information acquisition and database setup;(3)estimation of industrial heritage value;(4)studies of the planning and design strategy of industrial heritage reutilisation;and(5)the transition from industrial heritage conservation to the development of a cultural industry.

Interpretation of the Characteristics of the Southern Anhui Third Front Industrial Cultural Landscape in the Context of Philosophy of Technology

The third front industrial cultural landscape has the dual attributes of “industry” and “nature”.The special historical background and mountainous environment make it a distinctive industrial cultural landscape.Taking the third front industrial cultural landscape of southern Anhui as an example,this paper uses philosophy of technology to study this industrial cultural landscape with “modernity” characteristics,so as to make its “culture” return to the industrial cultural system and rethink,rather than the previous interpretation in the context of “cultural relics”.Then,under the framework of natural system,technological system and cultural system,the deep-seated cultural philosophy characteristics of the third front industrial cultural landscape are explained from the technological nature of the three line industrial cultural landscape.
