The propagation form of internal cracks induced by continuous casting soft reduction and the control strategy for enhancing the internal quality of 45 steel through industrial trials and a three-dimensional flow-heat transfer-solidification coupling model were investigated.The results showed that the internal cracks induced by soft reduction exhibited a characteristic of being"coarse in the middle and fine at both ends",and displayed an elliptical arc distribution on the loose side of the strand cross section.The cracks originated within the brittle temperature range and propagated inward to the liquid impenetrable temperature and outward to the zero ductility temperature or below.The control strategy for enhancing the internal quality of the 45 steel strand through soft reduction is to adjust the casting speed or the reduction zone appropriately,ensuring that the central solid fraction of the reduction zone falls within the range of 0.33-0.99.At this point,a reasonable reduction amount is allocated to eliminate the center shrinkage cavities and center segregation,even if it results in minor reduction-induced cracks. 展开更多

The traditional technology for internal quality detection of citrus fruit is believed to be destructive,inefficient,and error-prone.To address these issues,a novel method has been developed to evaluate nondestructively the sugar-acid ratio(SAR)of soluble solids by using the oil glands density(OGD).In this study,a total of 584 samples with different widths were collected.The sample data were correlated that the SAR and OGD decreased with time during storage.The relevance with time was significant between SAR and OGD of citrus positively correlated in the calibration group(R2=0.82),which indicated that OGD could be used to predict the internal quality of citrus.It indicated that a new generation of digital microscopy could provide an alternative to predict nondestructively the internal quality of citrus fruit,as well as some theoretical insight for further studies of online quality detection in the future. 展开更多

Center porosity and centerline segregation in continuously cast bloom can be minimized by the well-known method of dynamic soft reduction. Metallurgical results of soft reduction previously employed in continuous bloom casting for heavy rail steel in Panzhihua Iron and Steel Group were not fully achieved because of the improper soft reduction process. Therefore, experiments for optimizing the process parameters of soft reduction for bloom were carried out. The results show that the proportion of the center porosity, which is less than 1.0, increases from 28.41% to 99.81%, while the proportion of the centerline segregation class increases from 40.91% to 100%, and the proportion of the central cavity increases from 92.05% to 100%, whereas the center carbon segregation index decreases from 1.17 to 1.05. The internal quality and the mechanical performance of the rails produced from continuously cast blooms meet the requirement of high-speed tracks of 350 km/h. 展开更多

Watercore and sugar content are internal qualities which are impossible for exterior determi-nation.Therefore the aims of this study were to develop models for nondestructive detection of watercore and predicting sugar content in pear using Near Infrared Spectrosoopy(NIR)tech-nique.A total of 93 samples of Asian pear variety“SH-078”were used.For sugar content,spectrum of each fruit was measured in the short wavelength region(700-1100nm)in the reflection mode and the first derivative of spectra were then correlated with the sugar content in juice determined by digital refractometer.Prediction equation was performed by multiple linear regression.The result showed Standard Error of Prediction(SEP)=0.58°Bx,and Bias=0.11.The result from t-test showed that sugar content predicted by NIR was not signifcantly different from the value analyzed by refractometer at 95%confidence.For watercore disorder,NIR measurement was performed over the short wavelength range(700-850 nm)in the transmission mode.The first derivative spectra were correlated with intemnal qualities.Then principle com-ponent analysis(PCA)and partial least squares discriminant analysis(PLSDA)were used to perform discrimination models.The accuracy of the PCA model was greater than the PLSDA one.The scores from PC1 were separated into two boundaries,one predicted rejected pears with 100%classification accuracy,and the other was accepted pears with 92%accuracy.The high accuracy of sugar content determining and watercore detecting by NIR reveal the high efficiency of NIR technique for detecting other internal qualities of fruit in the future. 展开更多

Assessing the Quality of Undergraduate Education for International Students in China:A Perspective of Student Learning Experiences

Purpose:The number of international students in China has been increasing over the recent decades.The rapid expansion of the international student population aroused concerns over the capacity of Chinese universities to fulfill international students’expectations toward academic development.Perceiving student learning experiences as an important indicator of higher education quality,this article focuses on undergraduate international students in China and discusses their learning experiences from three perspectives,i.e.,perceived learning environment,academic engagement,and student development.Design/Approach/Methods:Data were generated by a survey involving 1,428 international students studying for an undergraduate degree at 34 universities in China.Descriptive statistics were calculated,and the structural equation model was applied.Findings:The research showed the respondents’academic development in a range of skills and abilities,while their learning experiences at the Chinese higher education institutions(HEIs)were largely unsatisfactory.Specifically,the research revealed the respondents’moderate-to-low-level evaluation of perceived classroom learning environment,their low level of academic engagement,and the significant negative influences of the perceived classroom learning environment and academic engagement on their academic development.Originality/Value:The analysis holds implications for the enhancement of positive learning experiences of international undergraduate students in China and the improvement of the quality of Chinese international student education.Student learning experiences are an important indicator of the quality of college teaching.Drawing on the data generated by a survey involving 1,428 international students studying for an undergraduate degree at 34 universities in China,this presentation explores the characteristics of international undergraduate students’learning experiences in Chinese universities and analyzes the relationship among the three dimensions of their learning experiences. 展开更多

This study aims to investigate the main factors driving technological innovation within firms in the manufacturing and service sectors of the Czech Republic.We apply a binary logistic regression model to cross-sectional data from 502 firms,obtained from the World Bank Enterprise Survey.The results of our empirical investigation show that certain elements of the business environment,such as the tax rate,serve as significant obstacles to firms’product innovations.The results also confirm that international technological linkagesdmeasured by international quality certificates and foreign technology licensesdaffect technological innovations.Moreover,we found that internal R&D activities positively impact technological innovation across all sectors;contrarily,we found that process innovation in the manufacturing sector is positively influenced by foreign technology licenses and business association membership.Process innovations in the service sector are positively correlated with external R&D and financing from banking institutions.Finally,business association membership does not positively influence technological innovation in the service sector.Our findings have salient implications for firm managers,policymakers,and scholars aiming to explore and improve innovation outcomes in transitional economies. 展开更多

In order to analyze the influence of the soft reduction on internal defects of bloom, such as center porosity and central segregation, experiment for contrasting process with or without soft reduction for bloom was conducted. The operation shows that after applying the soft reduction of alloy steel 45CrMnMo bloom, the ratio of center porosity whose defect level is less than or equal to 1.0 increased from 66.67% to 85.71%, ratio of central segregation whose defect level is below 1.0 increased from 94.44% to 100%, ratio of central shrinkage cavity which is free increased from 88.89% to 96.42%, and central segregation index of carbon decreased from mean value of 1.15 to 1.05. 展开更多

Nowadays,many researches have been accomplished on the attributed quality assessment of agricultural products.Fruits have significantly contributed to these researches because of their high production and consumption,worldwide.In this paper,the nondestructive instrumental researches in the field of firmness assessment for apple fruit discussed.These researches are important for all production and distribution chain activists such as farmers,insurance companies,packaging and transportation companies,wholesalers and retailers.These studies can be used for examining texture quality,predicting the right time to harvest fruits and classifying them according to the level of ripeness and detecting the apparent and internal defects of the fruit.The apple flesh firmness measurement methods consist of acoustic and mechanical vibration methods,optical methods such as hyperspectral scattering imaging,near infrared,ultrasound and other methods.The destructive puncture test method commonly used as a reference method.Nondestructive methods are accurate and quick that is suitable for online applications.Recently,the use of artificial intelligence methods and data fusion techniques to increase the accuracy of quality measuring of the products has been considered that in the future we will see further development of these methods in measuring the firmness of the apples. 展开更多

Annual reports are the main sources of information for outside investors' investment decisions and enable shareholders to supervise the management.Difficulties with the readability of these reports may therefore have serious consequences. Using 19,221 firm-year observations of Chinese A-share listed firms from 2001 to 2015, we investigate the association between annual report readability and corporate agency costs, where readability is proxied by report file length and/or file size. We find that firms with better annual report readability experience lower agency costs, and the negative association between readability and agency costs is more pronounced in firms with higher external audit quality, internal control quality or analyst coverage. These results hold after several robustness checks. The positive effect of annual report readability is stronger in private firms than in state-owned enterprises, and becomes stronger after the implementation of new accounting standards in 2007. Readable annual reports can help in monitoring corporate insiders' opportunistic behavior and thus reduce agency costs. 展开更多
