The Impact of Internships on the Skill Acquisition Among Nursing Students in Vocational Colleges of Shandong Province

This research investigates the impact of internships on skill acquisition among nursing students in vocational colleges in Shandong Province.By employing a mixed-methods approach involving surveys and interviews,the study re-veals the positive influence of internships on students’clinical competencies,professional qualities,and readiness for the workforce.Survey findings indicate heightened practical capabilities and increased confidence among students.Interviews emphasize the pivotal role of mentors in guiding skills development and professional growth.However,challenges such as resource constraints and workload imbalances during internships are also highlighted.These insights contribute to the en-hancement of nursing education and the preparation of competent nursing professionals in the region.

Hospitality and Tourism International Internships and Perceived Employability

This paper investigates the experiences of UK undergraduate students who have undertaken a one year paid internship abroad within the hotel sector by using a phenomenological approach.Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 25 final year undergraduate students.The findings shed light on the alignment of key elements of the constructs of positive psychological capital and cosmopolitan human capital,along with strong self-belief in employability as a consequence of the experience.A theoretical model of international experience and positive psych-social development is postulated and contributes to improved practice in internship and employability mentoring and policy decision-making with respect to current internationalisation and employability agendas in the UK’s higher education system.

Clinical competency:perceptions of nursing interns and clinical mentors

Objective:To assess the clinical competency of nursing interns and the perception of clinical nurse mentors toward student nurses'clinical competency.Methods:A study was carried out among 104 nursing interns and 26 clinical nurse mentors using the purposive sampling technique.A self-repor ted perception scale was used to collect the data.Results:In general,most nursing interns perceived themselves as clinically competent during the internship.The clinical nurse mentors too repor ted that the current internship is helping the nursing interns in becoming competent.Conclusions:Frequent clinical evaluation,buddy system,provision of stipends,good leadership,and coordination between the academic institute and hospital are repor ted as the critical motivating factors for improving the clinical competency of student interns.

Implementing Effective Internships:A Case Study of Work-Integrated Learning in a Chinese Undergraduate University

Chinese local undergraduate universities are in a process of transition into universities of applied sciences.Important aspects of this include strengthening cooperation between universities and industry,cultivating applied talent needed in industry,improving students’employment rates,and promoting economic development.Internships are an important way to help students gain practical experience and deepen university-industry cooperation.The purpose of this paper is to analyze the challenges of the existing internship process in an undergraduate university in China and give suggestions to improve internship quality.Qualitative data from 35 students and 12 administrators/faculty were collected at a local undergraduate university,H University(HU),in central China,which is currently undergoing the process of becoming a university of applied sciences.The findings of the study show issues with the university’s model,including communication between industry and university,internship evaluation,student guidance,and internship quality.Recommendations based on the literature are provided.

Exploring internship nursing students’ perception of gerontological nursing competencies: A descriptive study at Cairo University Hospitals

Objective:This research study explores the perceptions of gerontological nursing competencies,attitudes toward older individuals,and the willingness to provide care for the elderly among internship nursing students.Materials and Methods:A convenience sample of 350 internship nursing students from Cairo University Faculty of Nursing participated in the study.Data were collected using a set of comprehensive tools,including personal data and work experience assessment,the Hartford geriatric nurse competency tool,Kogan’s attitudes toward old people scale,and the modified elderly patient care inventory.Results:Descriptive analysis revealed balanced gender representation,with 60%identifying as female.Seventy percent of participants reported prior experience in gerontological care.Self-assessed competency scores indicated moderate proficiency in communication,physiological changes,and functional status assessment.Areas such as pain management and restraint use demonstrated potential gaps in self-perceived skills.Attitudes toward older individuals were predominantly positive,and the willingness to provide care showed positive tendencies,with a minor degree of hesitation noted.Conclusion:The findings underscore the need for targeted interventions in nursing education to address competency gaps,enhance positive attitudes,and alleviate potential hesitations in caregiving for older individuals.As the elderly population continues to grow,nursing education programs must prepare future practitioners to deliver comprehensive and compassionate care tailored to the unique needs of older adults.

Clinical Internship Teaching Management During the COVID-19 Epidemic

Against the backdrop of the global COVID-19 pandemic,the teaching and management of clinical medical interns have been facing tremendous challenges.When interns majoring in clinical medicine enter the internship position,they lack self-protection awareness and have limited ability to respond to unexpected public health events.This article explores the cognitive situation,existing problems,and improvement measures of clinical medical interns in the post-epidemic era.Therefore,this article proposes a series of improvement measures,including strengthening epidemic training and education for interns,enhancing personal protective awareness,and lastly achieving the role transition from intern to doctor.

Analysis of Combining OBE and CBL in Pharmacy Internship

Talent training has been emphasized in China’s national development.Training an excellent pharmaceutical professional has far-reaching significance for promoting rational use of drugs,ensuring safe drug use,and improving the quality and safety of medical treatment.The internship program is an important part of a pharmacy major that serves to develop students’practical skills.In this paper,we propose a combination of outcome-based education(OBE)and case-based learning(CBL)in pharmacy internships to promote critical thinking and independent learning among students and ensure the sustainable development of pharmacy education.

Hidden Constructs on Graduate Employability Decisions: The Principal Component Factor

This study adopted the quantitative research design to unearth hidden factors which go into graduate employability decisions. Purposive sampling technique was used to select graduates, institutions and industries within Takoradi, Cape Coast, Kumasi and Accra metropolis all in Ghana. Three different questionnaires inter-spaced with interviews were designed and used to collect data from the field according to a pre-determined stratified scheme. A total of 200 informants including 68 industries, 120 graduates and 12 institutions were used. The data was coded and keyed into SPSS version 20. Tables and Charts were used to explore the data. Principal component (PC) analysis was employed to extract hidden factors industries consider in graduate employability decisions. The PC method identified and extracted six hidden factors: ability to set SMART goals and structure actions;ability to demonstrate a willingness to embrace new systems, processes, technology and ideas;a determined, committed, resilient, and focused person;a person with passion for driving profit;ability to deconstruct a problem or situation;and clear and unprompted ability to present information to a group. These six hidden factors could explain 68.8% of the variances in graduate employability decisions. We recommend that internships be properly planned and executed with the involvement of industry players, facilitators of learning, and the ministry of trade and industries. In addition, facilitators should inculcate into students’ important traits and attributes identified in this study.

An Investigation of Taiwan Residents Nursing Students’ English Learning Behaviors and Environmental Factors Related to English Learning before and after Their Internship Experiences—A Case Study

The study aimed to investigate Taiwan Residents nursing students’ English learning behaviors and environmental factors relevant to English learning before and after their internships. More than five hundred nursing students from five junior colleges in southern Taiwan served as subjects of the study. The research instrument included a 134-item questionnaire dealing with students’ personal demographic information and English learning behaviors of motivation, strategy, and anxiety. In addition, environmental factors relevant to English learning of English as the Medium of Instruction (EMI) and Internationalization at Home (IaH), as well as nursing English for practicum use were discussed. Findings revealed that some correlations among students’ English learning behaviors, environmental factors, and English levels did exist before and after their internships. Moreover, students’ internship experiences of English use also brought about some changes in their learning behaviors led to English levels. Some implications and suggestions were provided for schools and students hoping to equip students with good English skills before getting into the job market.

Professional identity, wellness, and future hope among nurse interns in Egypt

Objective:Since nursing is a performance-based profession,clinical learning environments play an important role in the acquisition of professional abilities and train nursing students to enter the nursing profession and become a registered nurse.The study aimed to investigate the relations among professional identity,wellness,and future hope in nurse interns.Methods:A cross-sectional,analytic,descriptive,correlational study design was used to test these relations in the study where 210 nurse interns’students were selected using a convenience sampling from Zagazig University hospitals and Suez Canal University hospitals in Egypt.The questionnaires consisted of 4 parts,namely demographic characteristics,Professional Identity Scale for Nursing Students(PISNS),Holistic Health and Wellness Survey,and Hope scale.Results:Less than half of the study sample had chosen nursing specialty by own will(43.8%),while slightly more than half of them had a"very good"graduation level,and had no nursing role model.The lowest mean professional identity score was for independence in career choice while the highest was for social modeling.The repor ted physical wellness mean-score was the least,while social wellness was the highest.Professional identity,wellness,and future hope scores differed significantly based on nurse interns’personal characteristics.There were statistically significant,positive,weak-to-moderate correlations among the scores of professional identity,wellness,and future hope;however,the"choice of nursing study by own will"was a statistically significant independent positive predictor of the scores of professional identity,wellness,and future hope.Conclusions:Nurse interns’professional identity,wellness,and future hope were positively inter-correlated.However,nurse interns’wellness was the lowest,and it should be fostered as it was the main predictor for future hope.The internship programs should be modulated to improve nurse interns’professional identity,par ticularly regarding independence,and should foster their well-being in the clinical environment.

Avoiding the Gap of College Students’ Internship Expectations and Perceptions—A Case Study in Taiwan

Internship is believed to be vital in bridging the gap of theory and practice because of its providing students many realities they couldn’t find on campus. In fact, successful internships can play the role of “win-win-win” triangular partnership among schools, students, and industries, especially to benefit students to well equip themselves for good opportunities in the future career development. However, internship experiences that fail to meet students’ expectation may also discourage them or turn them away from entering the industry. Hence, to be aware of and to avoid the potential gap of students’ expectation cannot be underestimated. The study aimed to explore students’ expectation of internships from an aspect of gender and multiple intelligences expecting to avoid the potential gap beforehand. Subjects were eighty college Hospitality students who were ready to conduct their internships out of campus. They helped to fill out the questionnaires dealing with their personal demographic information, multiple intelligences, and expectations of internship. Findings revealed that genders and multiple intelligences did make a difference in students’ expectations of internship which may bring about frustration or disappointment in their real internship world. Suggestions and implications for the triangular partnership of schools, students, and industries were provided with a better understanding of factors relevant to students’ expectations for a more appropriate internship program to avoid the potential gap in advance.

As our reliance on computers increases, so does the number and complexity of the applications and the number and quality of trained professionals that will be needed to support further progress. The United States already faces personnel shortages in some computer related jobs, including university teaching. In the face of this evident and increasing need, we must think clearly about out expectations for computing professionals of all sorts and the way they are trained. In the forty years that I have been in the field, the focus in industry has changed from programming to software development. Evaluating of Training and Internship Programs of University Hospitals

Objective: This study aimed to assess training and internship programs (courses) of basic and clinical sciences in hospitals based on surveying the students of Tehran University of Medical Sciences. Material and Methods: The present study was a cross-sectional one with survey descriptive designs. The data collection tool was a questionnaire with 14 five-point likert style items. The Research and Development Center of Tehran University of Medical Sciences surveyed all 185 students of training and internship programs, using a questionnaire with the Cronbach’s alpha coefficient of 81%, for the purpose of adjusting the education to the society’s needs and improving its quality. Result: The mean scores of the assessment of training and internship programs were 3.32%, 2.98%, 3.38% and 3.29%, respectively for theoretical classroom training related to practical training, mental, communicational and practical skills courses. The students’ satisfaction rate regarding the quality of educational courses of training and internship programs was 50.2%. Conclusion: Educational authorities have made necessary attempts to implement these programs and use potential resources for realizing the objectives and achieving the educational quality;however, they should make further attempts in this regard.

It is stated by the National Pilot School of Software at Harbin Institute of Technology(HIT-NPSS) that the bachelor students' internship and final project last for one year.During this period the students practice in the internship companies for 10 months and then return to the school to finish their graduation thesis and the oral defense.The processes of the internship and final project are in very close connection and controlled by a series of strict rules and regulations,and effective quality control system.This paper describes the relationship among the internship,final project and graduation thesis,and discusses the practical experience of the process management of the entire bachelor students' final project in detail.

Insights from the University of Cincinnati Paid Internship Education Program

The University of Cincinnati is the birthplace of the paid internship program in the world and it has the most number of compulsory paid internship programs in the United States.Their paid internship education program has rich experience and remarkable results in curriculum arrangement,internship management and government support.However,the internship for vocational colleges in China faces problems such as low enthusiasm from industry,difficulty in internship management and insufficient government support.Drawing on the experience of paid internship education in the United States,the school and the industry jointly planned the internship training program,and finally established a collaboration model that benefits the three parties of the academia,the industry and the students.

Analysis of the Role of Chinese and American Supervisors of Internship Placement-Taking the Universityof Cincinnat's School-Enterprise Cooperation Model as an Example

The University of Cincinnati is the birthplace of the global paid internship program and has the most professional paid internship instructors in the United States.The University of Cincinnati has the most professional paid internship instructors in the United States.However,China's higher education institutions started their internship programs late,and instructors lack special training,which prevents them from playing their role fully.By analyzing the type of full-time mentor teachers,job content and legal functions of the University of Cincinnati,we will provide reference for the working model of new internship mentor teachers in China.

The effects of Professional Commitment and Patient Safety knowledge-attitude-practice on Undergraduate nursing students’ Humanistic Care Ability in clinical practice

Objective:To describe the status quo of humanistic care ability,the knowledge-attitude-practice of Patient Safety and professional commitment among Undergraduate Nursing Students in clinical practice,and to determine the effects of professional commitment and patient safety knowledge-attitude-practice on humanistic care ability.Methods:Two hundred and thirty-two undergraduate nursing students in clinical practice were investigated with the general questionnaire,Caring Ability Inventory(CAI),Patients Safety knowledge-attitude-practice(KAP)Questionnaire and the Nursing Professional Commitment Scale.Results:The score of humanistic care ability of nursing undergraduates was 185.19±20.95,patients safety KAP score was 106.94±11.62,professional commitment score was 74.93±10.44.Undergraduate nursing students’humanistic care ability were positively correlated with professional commitment and patients safety KAP(P<0.05).Multiple Linear regression analysis showed that professional commitment,patient safety KAP entered the humane care equation(F=24.051,P<0.001),and explained 39.1%of the total variation in humane care.Intermediate effect analysis shows that patient safety played a partial mediating role in professional commitment and humane care.Conclusion:The professional commitment and patient safety KAP of undergraduate nursing students were positively related to their humanistic care ability.Improving the professional commitment and knowledge and patients safety KAP of nursing students can strengthen their humanistic care ability to provide high-quality nursing for patients.

Impact of Covid-19 on University Final Year Internship Students

Covid-19 has significantly changed the lives of millions of people worldwide, especially university students. The pandemic has a strong influence on university students, all of whom are concerned about their future. This paper addresses the issue of the impact of the pandemic on final-year internship students. The work’s goal is to illustrate how Covid-19 outbreaks in the last year have influenced final-year internship university students and their internships, internship opportunities, career prospects, psychological well-being, and motivation. The Covid-19 impact is so huge on education. The purpose of this study is to show how it hampers a specific sector, like university final year internship students. In the future, if anybody wants to know the situation of intern students at universities, they will get to know it. The work aims to examine and classify the fundamental problems that final year students have faced in finding an internship during the Covid-19 pandemic period, the obstacles they face in finding an internship, how universities help their students, how students get internships, why internship opportunities are getting limited, and how students overcome obstacles in finding an internship. To complete this research, first, we chose around 25 questions and worked on them to survey different university students in Bangladesh. The research was performed using reviews of different research papers and a survey approach. The survey has been developed using the Google Forms platform. Three hundred students who are currently studying at public and private universities in Bangladesh participated in the study. Students have been asked to answer 25 questions online. The data was evaluated concretely. Most of those students were from the last semester or last year of their university life. And in the end, we finally came to a conclusion about how the research worked. It creates a scenario where over 300 students have shared their thoughts on each aspect of the research questions. Whether they suffer or not, most of them find it pretty difficult to complete their internship because most of the participants were university final year students, and after completing all the research, the results can be written as if there was no situation like this, it would be much easier and more convenient for all the final year university interns.

Application effect of nursing safety education in practical nursing students: a systematic evaluation

Objective To evaluate the effects of nursing safety education in nursing interns.Methods We searched databases such as CNKI,Wanfang,VIP,PubMed,Web of Science,Cochrane library and Embase for randomized controlled tri-als.Endnote software was used for literature screening and duplication review,and RevMan5.3 software was used for data consolidation analysis.Results A total of 12 RCTs were included and the object of study of 1046 people,The result of Meta analysis showed that there were significant differences between nursing safety education group and traditional teaching group in nursing students’theoretical examination scores[SMD=2.80,95%CI(2.06,3.54),P<0.01],operational scores[SMD=2.73,95%CI(2.12,3.33),P<0.01]and nursing safety assessment(nursing safety assessment scores,nursing safety ability and safety consciousness)[SMD=4.74,95%CI(3.33,6.14),P<0.01].Conclusion It is of great significance for colleges and teaching hospitals to carry out nursing safety education for nursing students,which is helpful to improve their safety culture knowledge and safety protection consciousness,and effectively reduce the occurrence of adverse nursing events.

Exploration of Curriculum Ideology and Politics Integrating Medical Humanities Cultivation Model to Enhance Medical Core Values

Purpose:To explore the application effect of the cultivation mode of Curriculum Ideology and Political Integration of Medical Humanities to enhance the core values of medicine in the clinical internship stage of medical students.Methods:Students in the clinical internship stage of the First Affiliated Hospital of Baotou Medical College were selected,and a total of 156 students in one random class in each grade were taken as the observation group and received the integration cultivation mode;148 students were taken as the control group and employed the traditional mode.The teaching effect of interns in the two groups was analyzed.Results:The teaching performance of students in both groups after clinical internship teaching was improved compared with that before admission;the teaching performance,teaching effect,teaching evaluation,and teaching satisfaction of the observation group were higher than that of the control group.Conclusion:The integration of the medical humanities training model with curriculum ideology and politics in the clinical internship of medical students is conducive to the improvement of teaching performance,teaching evaluation,teaching satisfaction of teachers and students,and the development and improvement of core values of medical students,which is of good value for teaching application.
