The facility layout problem belongs to typical multiple-attribute decision-making(MADM) problems. To make the information axiom fit to MADM problems, the original computation method for the information content is improved by increasing the satisfaction degree item. Attribute values are divided into precise type, uncertainty type and fuzzy type. For benefit, cost, fixation, and interval type attributes, the computation methods for the information content on the three types of attribute values are presented. The improved information content can reflect the system success probability and the decision-maker satisfaction degree simultaneously and evaluate the MADM problem including multiple type attribute values. Finally, as a case study, the facility layout alternatives of a welding assembly workshop are evaluated. The result verifies the validity and the feasibility of the improved information axiom on the MADM problems. 展开更多

Virtual reality(VR) training technology in the mining industry is a new field of research and utilization.The successful application of VR training system is critical to mine safety and production. Through the statistics of the current research and applications of VR training systems in mining industry, all the input/output devices are classified. Based on the classifications of the input/output devices that are used in the VR system, the current VR training systems for the mining industry could be divided into three types: screen-based general type, projector-based customized type, and head-mounted display(HMD)-based intuitive type. By employing a VR headset, a smartphone and a leap motion device, an HMDbased intuitive type VR training system prototype for drilling in underground mines has been developed.Ten trainees tried both the HMD-based intuitive system and the screen-based general control system to compare the experiences and training effects. The results show that the HMD-based system can give a much better user experience and is easy to use. Three of the five components of a VR training system,namely, the user, the tasks, and software and database should be given more attention in future research.With more available technologies of input and output devices, VR engines, and system software, the VR training system will eventually yield much better training results, and will play a more important role in as a training tool for mine safety. 展开更多

Rough set axiomatization is one aspect of rough set study to characterize rough set theory using dependable and minimal axiom groups. Thus, rough set theory can be studied by logic and axiom system methods. The classic rough set theory is based on equivalent relation, but rough set theory based on reflexive and transitive relation (called quasi-ordering) has wide applications in the real world. To characterize topological rough set theory, an axiom group named RT, consisting of 4 axioms, is proposed. It is proved that the axiom group reliability in characterizing rough set theory based on similar relation is reasonable. Simultaneously, the minimization of the axiom group, which requires that each axiom is an equation and each is independent, is proved. The axiom group is helpful for researching rough set theory by logic and axiom system methods. 展开更多

Whether a unified theory of everything(TOE)is possible or not is a philosophical question and yes or no can be chosen in a two-valued logic system.Currently the two schools are in conflict with each other.Based on the relativity of simultaneity axiom proposed in this paper,the present author suggests to use a midway philosophy to replace the present materialist philosophy for modern sciences;then this conflict together with many other conflicts among different theories such as classical mechanics(CM),general relativity(GR),and quantum mechanics(QM)can be solved and a unified theory of everything for the world we can observe can be constructed.In this paper,the axiomatic foundation for a TOE is proposed which contains six fundamental axioms.Various problems related to these foundational issues are discussed.It is hoped that the present paper might show a new promise and a new direction for TOE which would be helpful for the further development of modern sciences. 展开更多

In this paper, we present our research on building computing machines consciousness about intuitive geometry based on mathematics experiments and statistical inference. The investigation consists of the following five steps. At first, we select a set of geometric configurations and for each configuration we construct a large amount of geometric data as observation data using dynamic geometry programs together with the pseudo-random number generator. Secondly, we refer to the geometric predicates in the algebraic method of machine proof of geometric theorems to construct statistics suitable for measuring the approximate geometric relationships in the observation data. In the third step, we propose a geometric relationship detection method based on the similarity of data distribution, where the search space has been reduced into small batches of data by pre-searching for efficiency, and the hypothetical test of the possible geometric relationships in the search results has be performed. In the fourth step, we explore the integer relation of the line segment lengths in the geometric configuration in addition. At the final step, we do numerical experiments for the pre-selected geometric configurations to verify the effectiveness of our method. The results show that computer equipped with the above procedures can find out the hidden geometric relations from the randomly generated data of related geometric configurations, and in this sense, computing machines can actually attain certain consciousness of intuitive geometry as early civilized humans in ancient Mesopotamia. 展开更多

That validity of the axiom group in characterizing rough set theory is reasonable, is proved. Simultaneously, the minimization of the axiom group, which requires that each axiom is an inequality and each is independent, is proved. The axiom group is helpful for researching rough set theory by logic and axiom system methods. Aiming at shortcomings of traditional image retrieval systems, a new image retrieval approach based on color features of image combining intuitive fuzzy theory with genetic algorithm is proposed. Each image is segmented into a constant number of sub-images in vertical direction. Color features are extracted from every sub-image to get chromosome coding. It is considered that fuzzy membership and intuitive fuzzy hesitancy degree of every pixel's color in image are associated to all the color histogram bins. Certain feature, fuzzy feature and intuitive fuzzy feature of colors in an image, are used together to describe the content of image. Efficient combinations of sub-image are selected according to operation of selecting, crossing and variation. Retrieval results are obtained from image matching based on these color feature combinations of sub-images. Tests show that this approach can improve the accuracy of image retrieval in the case of not decreasing the speed of image retrieval. Its mean precision is above 80 %. 展开更多

The counter-intuitive behaviors of pin-ended beams under the projectile impact axe investigated with ANSYS/LS-DYNA in this paper. It studies in detail their displacement-time history curves, final deformed shapes, energy relationships and projectile impact velocity ranges related to their counter-intuitive behaviors. The influences of the impact positions on their counterintuitive behaviors are also discussed. The results show that no matter where the impact position on the beam is, the counter-intuitive behaviors of pinned beams will occur as long as the impacting velocity lies within a proper range. Corresponding to the occurring of the counter-intuitive behaviors, the rebounding number in the displacement history curves of the beams decreases from a few times to zero with an increase of the impact velocity. The final deformation modes of the beam corresponding to the counter-intuitive behaviors will appear in symmetrical and unsymmetrical forms no matter where the impact position is; the impact velocity of the first-occurring of the counter-intuitive behaviors of the beam increases slowly with the deviation of the impact position away from the mid-span. 展开更多

Introduction/Background: No research has been conducted on the relevance of intuitive eating as a promising strategy for sustainable weight management among Latinas. This study translated Tylka and Kroon Van Diest’s (2013) Intuitive Eating Scale-2 (IES-2) into Spanish and employed an exploratory factor analysis (EFA) to examine evidence of validity. Methods: We recruited Latinas from community venues in South San Diego, California to participate in this cross-sectional study. Inclusion criteria were: at least 18 years of age, monolingual Spanish or bilingual English/Spanish speaker, and self-identified Latina. In total, 150 Latinas completed a structured, face-to-face interview, which included the Spanish IES-2. Data were used in conducting an EFA. Results: Four items were removed for not loading on the initial EFA. Once items were removed, we extracted five factors with Eigenvalues greater than 1, which accounted for almost two-thirds of the variance. Of the four original IES-2 factors, two were retained identically: Reliance on Hunger and Satiety Cues (RHSC) and Body-Food Choice Congruence (B-FCC). The Eating for Physical Rather than Emotional Reasons (EPR) subscale lost one item in the initial EFA, and was not unidimensional, resulting in two separate subscales. Evidence of score reliability was marginal to strong (α = 0.63 - 0.87). Discussion: This study is first to provide evidence of validity and reliability for a Spanish translation of the IES-2. The results suggest that the proposed Spanish IES-2 can be used to study intuitive eating behaviors and attitudes among Latinas. However, further research with larger sample sizes and other diverse populations are suggested. 展开更多
